W | S Casting FRIEDA SIDES Freida is vain and girly and talks about her Naturally Curly Red hair. Side #1 Frieda (Bouncing her curls in her hand) Did innkeepers’ wives have naturally curly hair? Side #2 Frieda I can’t go on. There’s too much dust. It’s taking the curl out of my naturally curly hair. Charlie Brown Don’t think of it as dust. Think of it as maybe the soil or some great, past civilization. Maybe the soil of ancient Babylon. It staggers the imagination. You may be carrying soil that was trod upon by Solomon. Or even Nebuchadnezzar. Pig Pen Sort of makes you want to treat me with more respect, doesn’t it? Frieda You’re an absolute mess. Just look at yourself. VIOLET & PATTY SIDES Violet is not very nice. She thinks Charlie Brown is a walking disaster. Patty (not Peppermint Patty) is Violet's best friend who talks about how much they don't like Charlie Brown. Charlie Brown Thanks for the Christmas card you sent me, Violet. Violet I didn’t send you a Christmas card, Charlie Brown. Patty Try to get snowflakes on your tongue. It’s fun. Violet Oh no, we’re doomed! Patty This will be the worst Christmas play ever. Patty Yeah. Do something right for a change, Charlie Brown. Violet Boy, are you stupid, Charlie Brown. Patty What kind of a tree is that? Violet I told you he’d goof it up. He’s not the kind you can depend on to do anything right. Patty You’re hopeless, Charlie Brown. FRANKLIN & PIG PEN SIDES Lucy Franklin, you’re a shepherd. FRANKLIN Every Christmas it’s the same. I always end up playing a shepherd. PIG PEN Pig Pen is known for being constantly dirty, insulted constantly by everybody. He is very cool and accepts himself regardless. Side #1 Lucy Pig Pen, you’re the innkeeper. Pig Pen In spite of my outward appearance, I shall try to run a neat inn. (Frieda hands her hand mirror to Pig Pen) Pig Pen On the contrary, I didn’t think I looked that good. Piano / Vocal CHARLIE BROWN XMAS 8. • LINER NOTES Print
LONG NOTES GEORGE WINSTON LINUS AND LUCY – THE MUSIC OF VINCE GUARALDI – VOL. 1: George Winston on Vince Guaraldi (Vince’s name is pronounced “Gurr-al-dee”, beginning with a hard “G) “Vince Guaraldi once said that he wanted to write standards, not just hits, and that he did,” says George Winston. “His music is very much a part of the fabric of American culture, but not many people know the man behind the music, and it is unusual for someone’s music to be better known than their name (some other composers who have also been in this situation are Allen Toussaint, Randy Newman (in the early and mid 1960s), Joni Mitchell (in the mid 1960s), Leonard Cohen (in the mid-1960s), Laura Nyro, Percy Mayfield, Otis Blackwell, and Wendy Waldman). If I play Linus & Lucy and other Vince Guaraldi Peanuts pieces for most kids they will usually say right away, ‘That’s Charlie Brown music’. Vince’s soundtracks for the first 16 of the Peanuts animations from the 1960s & 1970s continue to delight millions of people around the world, and many of his albums remain in print. I like to help make the connection for people that Vince Guaraldi was a great jazz pianist, and that he was the composer of the soundtracks for the first 16 of the Peanuts animation, as well as of many other great jazz pieces. Vince’s best known standards are Cast Your Fate to the Wind, Linus and Lucy, Christmas Time is Here, as well as Skating, and Christmas is Coming. A lot of Vince’s music is seasonal, and it reminds me very much of my upbringing in Montana.

  • LMFP Press Release Concerto March 12 2019
Lee Mendelson Film Productions, Inc. Movies, Television, Home Video Founded 1963 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE!! March 12, 2019 PEANUTS CONCERTO FOR PIANO AND ORCHESTRA WORLD PREMIERE Lee Mendelson Film Productions announces the World Premiere of the first-ever Peanuts Concerto for Piano and Orchestra based on the legendary music of Vince Guaraldi, arranged by Grammy-winning composer, Dick Tunney, featuring pianist Jeffrey Biegel with Orchestra Kentucky, led by Music Director, Jeff Reed. This moving arrangement sets Guaraldi's classic music from the Peanuts® specials, into a three-movement work for piano and orchestra. It will be a wonderful introduction for families to hear the jazz writings of the late Vince Guaraldi in a 21st century symphonic landscape. Vince Guaraldi wrote and performed the music for the first fifteen animated Peanuts® specials, until his untimely death in 1976. The album, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" is the second most sold jazz album in history with over 4 million copies sold. Guaraldi started writing music for the never-aired documentary "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" in 1963 that Lee Mendelson Produced. When Mendelson, animator Bill Melendez and Peanuts’ creator, Charles Schulz, created "A Charlie Brown Christmas," they turned to their friend Mr. Guaraldi to write the music for the special. Vince Guaraldi’s music and “A Charlie Brown Christmas” have aired every Christmas season since 1965, and the music from that special has become a timeless part of our culture and the holiday season. In addition to that special, Guaraldi wrote the music for the next fourteen animated specials, some of which have been incorporated into this concerto.

  • A VINCE GUARALDI HOLIDAY Wednesday, December 22 / 8Pm
MEDIA RELEASE For Immediate Release December 14, 2010 THE ROBERT SCOTT TRIO PERFORMS THE CLASSIC JAZZ SOUNDTRACK TO THE SEASON AT THE LEBOVIC CENTRE FOR ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT! A VINCE GUARALDI HOLIDAY Wednesday, December 22 / 8pm “Robert is one of the most dynamic players I have ever had the opportunity to work with. He is simply a force of nature.” Michael Bublé Stouffville, ON (December 14, 2010) – The Lebovic Centre for Arts & Entertainment – Nineteen on the Park proudly presents The Robert Scott Trio’s A VINCE GUARALDI HOLIDAY as the final concert in its 2010 Seasonal Concert Series. A talented if little recognized jazz pianist when his composition “Cast Your Fate to the Wind” achieved hit status in 1962, Vince Guaraldi was then commissioned to score the first Peanuts television special, A Charlie Brown Christmas. Guaraldi’s spare and infectious melodies became an essential part of the TV specials and that original Peanuts score remains a seasonal favourite. When Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz called on Vince Guaraldi and his trio to compose and perform music for the 1965 Christmas TV special, the result was a score that reflected the charm and innocence of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the entire Peanuts gang. Guaraldi’s elegant arrangements reflected the spirit of Schulz's work and introduced contemporary jazz to youngsters with grace, charm, and creativity. Guaraldi’s arrangement of "What Child Is This" touches on cool jazz's richly textured percussive nuances, while "The Christmas Song" reflects Christmas' relaxing, mellow moments. The renowned "Linus and Lucy" gives the Peanuts characters a fresh, energetic feel with its meter changes, brilliant percussion and humorous piano lines.
