The surge in chef-owned restaurants has added to our dining experiences. There is a focus on the quality of cuisine that has become available to us in recent years. Local businesses, farmers markets and culinary TV shows have made the diner conscious of the choices they now have available. Food trucks turning towards brick and mortar are offering more out-of-the-box options than ever before. People are more aware of the cuisine that is available and the benefits of offering sustainable, fresh ingredients. People are willing to pay a little more for the finer things in life. Not only are we becoming more eco-conscious in our dining, but our palates have developed. We are willing to jump out of the comfort of familiar foods and try new things. Today is the era of poutine, charcuterie and sashimi—all available within a block of each other. Trust us. We get it; it's hard to wean through the almost incomprehensible amount of restaurants in Los Angeles. Where to dine out is similar to sitting at your favorite coffee house figuring out the most complex crossword puzzle. Don't fret, we've done the work for you. Traversing the Los Angeles basin—from the Santa Monica coast, to the Westside, Mid-Wilshire and the East, we have uncovered the “ultimate” hideaways and foodie finds that you will want to put on your radar. Already a major player on the world's gastronomic food scene, you don't have to go far to find a place to dine. Like most things, finding a restaurant is easy, but finding a good, even great restaurant is hard, which is why we've stepped in and composed a list of places we've noted as key points in LA's still-growing food arena. From spicy dishes to euphoric sweets, our ultimate food guide has you covered for your next meal. Our guide will no doubt be on your 'must have' list. EGGSLUT www.eggslut.com Must Have Item: Eggs! • S Beverly Hills Epitomizes Upscale Travel
California’s Beverly Hills Epitomizes Upscale Travel by Lee Foster Travel in the United States has become decidedly upscale, for some. Observers of travel have watched as this measurable trend developed. For a small, but identifiable segment of travelers, price is no object. What is of concern is the highest quality in accommodations, dining, and experience. This is the traveler whom every destination now seeks to woo. For the majority of travelers, reports on this privileged minority amount to armchair or fantasy travel, an act of vicarious gratification. Nowhere in the U.S. is the phenomenon of upscale travel better expressed than in Beverly Hills , CA . This writer on one occasion immersed himself in this elite travel environment. It is fitting that here the movie industry, the makers of illusion, also finds its home. Beverly Hills passed its 90th birthday in 2004 and headed confidently towards 100. The old gal isn’t allowing herself to show her age, of course, because plenty of cosmetic surgery is ongoing in the hotels, shops, and restaurants. “We see ourselves as an oasis where the traveler can find the highest quality goods, the best hotels and restaurants, and the ultimate in service,” said the Beverly Hills ‘ mayor. LODGINGS: STARTING AT RAFFLES L’ERMITAGE Raffles L’Ermitage Hotel in Beverly Hills may well be the choicest lodging in America . Such objective observers as AAA and Mobil have awarded it their coveted five star/diamond ratings, which are tough to get and rarely coincide in one property. L’Ermitage enjoys plenty of competition in Beverly Hills from the Beverly Hills Hotel, Regent Beverly Wilshire, and Beverly Hilton.

T H E I N F O R M E R S Screenplay by Bret Easton Ellis & Nicholas Jarecki Based on the book "The Informers" by Bret Easton Ellis Black water flickers with light. Suddenly a pool is radiated an intense aqua blue. The sounds of a party fade in along with the ominous opening of The Go-Go's "This Town". A party in the backyard of a Bel Air mansion. 1983. It's paradisiacal: huge flowering trees lit by ground lamps, the massive steaming pool, a giant fountain spraying water, an endless maze of gardens, a house the size of a hotel looming over the scene. It's a dream, a mirage. The college kids that make-up the party are all interchangeable: blond, beautiful, tan. And everyone is dressed in the clothing of the era: pastels, Polo shirts with the collars up, tight jeans, pennyloafers, mini-skirts and Camp Beverly Hills tank-tops. GRAHAM (21) and CHRISTIE (19) are two of these perfect specimens. They make-out while sharing a joint on a chaise lounge by the pool. They blow smoke into each other's mouths and kiss hungrily, oblivious to the rest of the party. On the chaise lounge opposite them: MARTIN (20) and TIM (20). Tim does bumps of coke from a vial and is talking nonstop at Martin who just sips a Corona and stares coolly at the couple grinding into each other on the chaise. We can't hear anybody because of the music. BRUCE (20) makes his way down the steps leading to the pool, followed by a drunken RAYMOND (20), who's trying to explain something to him.

sprinkles folio 2017 © a l m project inc sprinkles folio 2017 © a l m project inc a l m project’s design for the first Sprinkles bakery, in Beverly Hills in 2005, was driven by the desire to express the joyful spirit and quality of its singular product, the cupcake. Designing a store for a single product that also happens to be rather small, was both challenge and liberation. Because the central narrative of the space was the notion that cupcakes evoke nostalgia and childhood memories, it was key to put the cupcake on stage, and then to create a whole world around it. sprinkles folio 2017 © a l m project inc We started with the design of the display: the signature cupcake array – in which each cupcake is precisely placed in a grid – communicates care with its organized appearance, and by preventing the cupcakes from touching each other, keeps the frosting perfect every time. Glimpsed through the clear wrapper peephole in the front door, the cupcake array it is at the heart of the store and the first thing the customer sees. From there the space unfolds: fun, approachable, yet sophisticated. Intimate in scale, it is made to recall European bakeries, awash in natural light and flooded with the scent of baked goods. sprinkles folio 2017 © a l m project inc Shortly after the opening of the world’s first 1 2 3 cupcake-only bakery, our role expanded from then on functioning as architect, creative director and design agency for all aspects of the Sprinkles universe. And soon Sprinkles grew: from store to website to app, from Cupcake Mobile to Ice Cream Cart to the first 24- hour Cupcake ATM, we designed every element to be delightful and resonant for customers young and old alike.
