E-MAIL: [email protected] THIS WEEKEND AUGUSTANA MATCH PREVIEW The Bemidji State University Volleyball squad will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., on Fri., Oct. 1 to face AUGUSTANA the Augustana College Vikings at the Elmen Center at 7 p.m. The Beavers enter play on Friday with an 8-6 mark (2-4 NSIC). Their hosts from Augustana hold an 8-6 mark (4-1 NSIC). The Vikings only loss in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference came on Tuesday to No. 2 Wayne State College. Augie has victories over Upper Iowa University, Winona State University, the University of Mary and Northern State University. The Beavers and Vikings split last year’s meetings. BSU defeated Augustana in five sets at home, 3-2, but fell 3-1 to their NSIC foes on the road in Sioux Falls. Augie leads the all-time series 13-3. WAYNE STATE MATCH PREVIEW SIOUX FALLS, S.D. 7:00 P.M. Bemidji State will face the No. 2 Wayne State (Neb.) Wildcats on Saturday at 4 p.m., at Rice Audito- 10/1/2010 rium in Wayne, Neb. The Wildcats carry an unblemished 14-0 mark into this weekend. Wayne State will battle the No. 1 University of Minnesota Duluth squad on Friday before hosting BSU. Wayne State. The Wildcats already hold four victories over teams currently ranked in the AVCA poll includ- ing three wins over teams ranked in this week’s top 10 (Southwest Minnesota State, Concordia-St. NO. 2 WAYNE STATE Paul and Nebraska-Kearney). Wayne State leads the all-time series between the two schools at a 20-2 clip. The Beavers took the No. 22 Wildcats to five sets but ultimately lost, 3-2, last season in Bemidji. In the second meeting between the two schools in 2009, Wayne State upended BSU, 3-1, at Rice Auditorium.The Wildcats will serve as the fourth ranked team in five matches that the Beavers have faced. BSU PLAYERS TO WATCH WAYNE, NEB. -Hannah Eilers- 4:00 P.M. Junior Hannah Eilers (OH, Little Fork, Minn.) saw increased playing time over the weekend against 10/2/2010 No. 12 Minnesota State and No. 4 Southwest Minnesota State. Eilers tallied six kills and eight digs on Saturday against the Mustangs to help the Beavers stay close in the second and third sets against their ranked foes. Eilers comes into the weekend averaging 1.62 kills per game and 1.19 digs per game. -Laura Carlson- MULTIMEDIA Sophomore Laura Carlson (DS/OH, Hutchinson, Minn.) has been a key cog in the Bemidji State defense so far this season. Carlson has teamed with her other back row mates to hold opponents Augustana Match to a .171 hitting percentage. She enters the match averaging 2.29 digs per game. Carlson has also tallied eight service aces this season. Olson has 1,015 kills in her four years at BSU. Brittney Burns (2004-08) was the last Beaver to accomplish over 1,000 kills in her career and currently ranks second all-time in BSU stats/volleyball/xlive.htm Volleyball history. Peggy Hamel-Moran is the all-time leader in kills at BSU with 1,300 from 1996-99. Live Video: NMTV Olson is now ranked eighth all-time in kills. She needs 18 kills to surpass Diane Glampe in seventh place. BEAVERS STEAL SET FROM BULLDOGS The Bemidji State Beavers proved that they could stay with even the toughest of opponents as they came out of the gate and took the first set, 25-19, against No. 2 Minnesota Duluth on uesday.T The set loss was only the fifth of the season for the undefeated Bulldogs. The set victory marked the second year in a row that the Beavers have been able to take the first set from a ranked UMD team.
