Leaders on the Ice: With four WCHA teams ranked in the Top 10, it comes as no surprise that league teams and individuals are among the best in the nation thus far WCHA 2020-21 National Accolades into the 2020-21 season. HCA National Goaltender of the Month November 2020: Lauren Bench, RS-Sr., Minnesota Minnesota Duluth's Anna Klein leads the country in points, having tallied six goals and fi ve assists in six games for 11 points in 2020-21. The senior forward is also tied for the national lead in game-winning goals with two alongside a pair of Providence skaters in Lauren DeBlois and Annelise Rice as well as Penn State's Kiara Zanon and Boston College's Jillian Fey and Minnesota's Grace Zumwinkle.

Minnesota State's Anna WIlgren paces the WCHA and the NCAA in blocked shots with a total of 17 in six games. She is joined in the top fi ve by fellow WCHA defenseman Olivia Knowles of Minnesota whose 15 blocked shots tie her for third in the country.

As a team, Minnesota leads the league in blocked shots with 90, a total that is good for third in the NCAA. St. Cloud State ranks second in blocked shots in the WCHA and is tied for fourth in the nation with 78 in six games.

Rookie Saves the Day: St. Cloud State freshman netminder Sanni Ahola set a new program record at SCSU for most saves in a debut performance after tallying a 37-save shutout against Minnesota State on Nov. 27. In doing so, Ahola became the fi rst Huskies goaltender since 2004 and the second-ever in the program's history to record a shutout in her inaugural appearance in net for St. Cloud State.

Raising the Bar at Ridder: Minnesota’s 2-1 win over Minnesota State on Dec. 11 was the 301st for the Gophers at since the building opened in 2002-03. The 301 wins stand as the most for one team in its current home arena in that span. Clarkson (225), Harvard (208), St. Lawrence (204) and Boston College (202) join the Gophers as the only programs with more than 200 wins in their current buildings over the last 19 seasons.

Career Benchmarks: The beginning of the 2020-21 season has seen multiple WCHA student-athletes reach signifi cant milestones in their hockey careers. Wisconsin junior forward Sophie Shirley tallied both her 50th career goal as well as her 100th career point on Nov. 27 against Ohio State. Minnesota junior Emily Oden (17g-34a) recorded her 50th career point with an assist against Minnesota Duluth on Nov. 27.

The Puck Shall Not Pass: St. Cloud State's senior netminder Emma Polusny currently holds the record for most saves in a single game in 2020-21. The Huskies captain made 50 stops against Minnesota Duluth on Dec. 5 to claim the national lead. Two other WCHA goaltenders also rank in the Top 5 for saves in a single game. Both Minnesota's Lauren Bench and Minnesota State's Calla Frank made 40 saves in a single contest this season. Bench's 40-save game came against Minnesota State on Dec. 10 while Frank's took place against Minnesota Duluth on Nov. 21.

Bryant assisted on Fleming’s goal in Friday’s 2-1 loss at Minnesota. • After finishing last season fourth in the nation amongst shot-blocking company with 96 blocks, junior defenseman Anna Wilgren leads the nation with 17 blocked shots after posting nine blocks against third- ranked Minnesota, Dec. 10-11. • Freshman goaltender Lauren Barbro (0-2-0) made her first career starts Dec. 10-11 against Minnesota. The Loudonville, N.Y., native stopped 52-of-59 shots and for a 3.54 goals against average and .881 save percentage in two games. • Sophomore goaltender Calla Frank (1-3) stopped 32-of-35 shots, including 21 saves to secure the Mavericks’ first win of the season, 4-2, against St. Cloud State, Nov. 28.
