Appointments and Walk-ins • Individual appointment topics range from career planning, mock interviews, job/internship and graduate/ professional school advising. Appointments are scheduled on the hour for one hour increments • Walk-ins cover quick questions, Career Center overview, resume/cover letter critiques, and general advice on job, internship and graduate/professional school search. Walk-ins last 10-15 minutes on a first-come, first-serve basis Career Advisory Network (C.A.N.) • Professional networking community that allows you to connect with students, alumni, employers, and other friends of the College to offer and gain career advice – a subgroup of The College of Saint Rose Career Center on LinkedIn Career Planning • Appointment times available to discuss career plans, explore suitable career options, set short and long term goals, identify experiential learning/internship opportunities and develop effective job search skills • Assessment instruments including “Do What You Are” and book/web resources are available to help define/clarify values, interests, skills and personal qualities, including “What Can I Do With This Major” website Career Resource Room • Contains over 750 books, as well as magazines, newspapers, and directories related to majors, careers, internships, job search and graduate/professional school - search resource room collection at www.strose.edu/careercenter Classroom/Group Presentations • Faculty and group (i.e. residential life, student clubs and organizations) sponsored presentations educate and inform students on different stages of career development • Program topics include career planning, eCareerCenter, graduate school, interviewing, job/internship search, networking, resume/cover letter, skills assessment and more Credential File Service • Convenient, organized and confidential way to house letter of recommendations, a Saint Rose unofficial transcript and a copy of educational certification (if applicable) for graduate school and employer applications Delta Epsilon Iota (D.E.I.) • National Honor Society with a Career Development Focus - offers members numerous opportunities for career development, networking, leadership development, and community service • Undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of 30 semester hours and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher are invited for membership eCareerCenter • On-line access to Jobs (part-time, full-time, local, national) and Internships (paid, academic, volunteer); plus Saint Rose Work-Study Positions and Graduate Assistantships etc. • Events and Recruiting (Information Tables, Information Sessions, Resume Collections, On-Campus Interviews), Education Expo, Etiquette Dinner, and other career-related programs • Resources including “Career Explorer” - career and industry information from the U.S. Department of Labor O*Net and Career Center Handouts (resume and cover letter, interviewing, credential file, career planning, graduate school, job/internship search and networking etc.) • Job/internship search documents to be used when applying for positions posted via eCareerCenter (resume, cover letters, writing samples etc.) 2 Career Planning Education Expo • Spring event that provides students and alumni with an opportunity to connect and interview with education employers with anticipated vacancies – details available in late January Graduate/Professional School • Appointments, walk-ins and programming to learn about graduate/professional school options and processes • Books and online resources related to graduate programs, examinations and personal statements Interviewing / Mock (Practice) Interviewing • Appointment times available to learn about and/or practice interviewing with a staff member or employer • Participate in a mock interview and receive feedback to improve your skill and comfort level with interviewing; option of having the interview recorded to help you identify strengths and areas for improvement Job/Internship Search • Appointment and walk-in times available to discuss the job/internship search process • Learn about job/internship search strategies, identifying available opportunities, creating job/internship search correspondence (resume, cover letters, thank you letters) and developing interview skills Programming • Career Center programs include, but are not limited to, Career Carnival, Career Roundtables, Etiquette Dinner, Internship Reception, Networking Events, Resume Critique Week, and Who, What, Where, When, How of Applying to Graduate School (check our website and eCareerCenter for details and additional programming) • Collaborative programming with student clubs/organizations enables us to connect our office and employers with student groups; and for some programming we are able to provide funding through the Career Event Grant Recruiting Program • Employers participate in our Recruiting Program (Information Table, Information Session, Resume Collection, On- Campus Interview) to connect with and/or interview undergraduates, graduate students and alumni • Recruiting activities are advertised through our website, flyers, The Chronicle, Blackboard, bulletin boards, campus television/radio, Facebook, Twitter, Axis TV and targeted e-mails to students and alumni on eCareerCenter Resume and Cover Letter Development • Walk-ins are available to review and develop resumes and cover letters • Handouts and books available with content and layout information needed to develop a resume and/or cover letter Website – www.strose.edu/careercenter Information and resources for students, alumni, employers, parents & families, and the campus community • Career Resource Collection: searchable database of over 750 books related to interests, majors, careers, internships, job search, graduate/professional school and scholarships • Post-Graduation Outcomes: employment and continuing education outcomes one year after graduation • On-Demand Presentations: Introduction to the Career Center, eCareerCenter, Resume/Cover Letter Tutorials • Internet Resources: links to websites related to occupations, industries, jobs, internships, graduate/professional schools, job fairs, scholarships, salary, LinkedIn, resources for veterans and people with disabilities; explore suitable options; set short and long-term goals; identify experiential learning opportunities and develop effective job search skills. The Career Center can assist with this process through individual career counseling, which teaches the process of self-assessment, career exploration and decision-making so that you can make effective and rewarding career choices. Know Yourself • Explore and evaluate your interests, skills, values, lifestyle preferences and personal traits • Gain an understanding of how your attributes interrelate with careers and influence your decisions • Meet individually with Career Center staff to discuss the possibility of utilizing a career assessment instrument and/or the Career Resource Room to help clarify your interests and develop your goals Do What You Are is designed to help you discover your potential through your responses to a series of questions that assess your personality and values. Information Gathering • Research the careers and academic programs that are of interest to you so that you will be able to make an informed decision • Expand your knowledge of majors and careers by utilizing print and online resources – take advantage of our website and Career Resource Room (listing of books available on www.strose.edu/careercenter) • Check out What Can I Do with This Major? (available on www.strose.edu/careercenter) - select a major and see common career areas, employers, and strategies designed to maximize career opportunities, as well as links to websites that provide additional information • Review job/internship listings to gain a better understanding of the qualifications and job responsibilities of a
