From Indifference to Entrapment deals with the question of how the Netherlands faced up to this challenge during the years 1990-1995. It was during this period that the crisis erupted into armed conflict and the single worst war crime in Europe since the end of World War II took place in the ‘safe area’ of Srebrenica. The role of the Netherlands is particularly interesting, as the country held the EC/EU Presidency during the recognition debate in 1991 and supplied the peacekeeping presence in Srebrenica. The questions addressed in this book include: Did early warning work? What role did the Dutch Presidency (July-December 1991) play in the recognition debate? What motiv- ated the Dutch opposition to the Vance-Owen Peace Plan? Why did the Netherlands become From Indifference entrapped, as symbolised through its isolated peacekeeping commitment to Srebrenica? Finally, what can this story tell us about the ability of small and medium powers to in- fluence international affairs? This study is based on interviews with key players, including former Cabinet Minis- ters, and on documents from the Netherlands Ministry to Entrapment of Foreign Affairs, made available under the Dutch ‘freedom of information act’. Lilianne Ploumen / Partijvoorzitter PvdA / Partij GroenLinks en PvdA (vanaf 2003) PvdA en GroenLinks praten over politieke samenwerking. Job Cohen en Femke Halsema hebben in oktober vertrouwelijke gesprekken gevoerd over politieke samenwerking tussen PvdA en Groenlinks. Dat schrijft het NRC Handelsblad zaterdag. In de toekomst zou dat moeten kunnen leiden tot een permanente politieke alliantie, waar mogelijk ook D66 en SP aan deelnemen. In dezelfde krant bevestigt partijvoorzitter Lilianne Ploumen deze gesprekken. Ploumen: „Door samenwerking willen we politieke macht organiseren voor een alternatieve route. Wij willen een vrij land dat trots is op zijn beschaving en vooruit wil in de wereld.‟ Geachte PvdA partijvoorzitter Lilianne Ploumen Ik ben Ad van Rooij en ben lijsttrekker van De Groenen in Sint-Oedenrode (Nederland). Ik ben 58 jaar, getrouwd met Annelies en vader van 2 kinderen Jos en Lisette. Wij wonen in Olland (gemeente Sint-Oedenrode) waar ik geboren en getogen ben. Om door de PvdA veroorzaakte politieke redenen heb ik vanaf 22 april 2010 moeten vluchten vanuit Nederland naar België en daar politiek asiel aangevraagd.Tijdens mijn verblijf in België vanaf 22 april 2010 tot op heden heb ik moeten constateren dat Nederland haar buurland België gebruikt als dekmantel voor het vergiftigen van de wereld (waaronder de Belgen zelf) met miljarden kilogrammen uiterst giftige kankerverwekkende stoffen als arseenzuur en chroomtrioxide en daarbij alle Europese richtlijnen, verordeningen, verdragen en arresten overtreedt. Met het Benelux-verdrag zit België hier zodanig mee ingetrokken dat die samenwerking met Nederland, ook vanwege strijdigheid met het Europees-verdrag, onmiddellijk dient te worden verbroken. Mede om die reden is de roep naar een nieuwe politieke beweging in België groot en is een nieuwe politieke beweging “De Groenen” in België ontstaan. -

Western Europe Great Britain National Affairs OIGNS OF SLOW BUT DISCERNIBLE economic recovery in 1993 —such as a drop in interest rate, reduced inflation, and even a small decline in unemploy- ment — did nothing to halt the unremitting decline in the political fortunes of Prime Minister John Major's Conservative government. The Tories lost to the Liberal Democrats in by-elections for two hitherto safe parliamentary seats — Newbury in May and Christchurch in July — and in local elections in May, when the Conserva- tives lost control of all but one county council. The most likely cause of the government's unpopularity was its own disunity. Internal dissension, for example, dogged the progress of the bill to ratify the Maas- tricht Treaty on European Union. In March the government lost a key vote on the bill by 22 votes, and Major had to call for a vote of confidence in July, which did insure final ratification of the treaty. The Labor party limited itself to profiting from the government's unpopularity and to updating its image and organization. Under leader John Smith's impetus, the party's annual conference in September voted to abolish the bloc vote enjoyed by the trade unions, in a bid to enhance the party's appeal to middle-class electors. Despite appeals by the Board of Deputies of British Jews and other groups, the government's Asylum Bill, which would limit the number of political refugees admitted to Britain, was passed by the House of Commons in January. Israel and the Middle East The draft peace accord signed by Israel and the Palestinians in September was welcomed by all political parties and opened the door to a more positive stance by Britain in Middle East politics. -

'Het is moeilijk om nieuwe leden te winnen', zegt Gerrit Voerman, hoogleraar aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. 'Maar het blijkt mogelijk. En het is nodig.' Het Documentatiecentrum Nederlandse Politieke Partijen publiceerde deze maand de jaarlijkse stand: een groei van het ledenaantal met 10 procent, grotendeels dankzij Forum voor Democratie. 'Een verkiezingsjaar laat altijd aanwas zien', zegt Voerman. 'Wat opvalt is de sterke groei voor Baudet’s FvD met name onder jongeren. De parallelle levens van Hans en Hans Door Roelof Bouwman - 16 januari 2021 Geplaatst in Boeken Het is nog maar nauwelijks voorstelbaar, maar tot ver in de jaren negentig van de vorige eeuw verschenen in Nederland nauwelijks biografieën. Terwijl je in Britse, Amerikaanse, Duitse en Franse boekwinkels struikelde over de vuistdikke levensbeschrijvingen van historische kopstukken als Winston Churchill, John F. Kennedy, Konrad Adenauer en Charles de Gaulle, hadden Nederlandse historici nauwelijks belangstelling voor het biografische genre. Over de meeste grote vaderlanders – van Johan Rudolf Thorbecke tot Multatuli, van Anton Philips tot Aletta Jacobs en van koningin Wilhelmina tot Joseph Luns – bestond geen enkel fatsoenlijk boek. Het verloop van de geschiedenis, zo hoorde je Nederlandse historici vaak beweren, wordt niet bepaald door personen, maar door processen: industrialisatie, (de)kolonisatie, verzuiling, democratisering, emancipatie, enzovoorts. Daarnaast werd de weerzin tegen biografieën gevoed door de protestantse angst – in Nederland wijdverbreid – voor het ‘ophemelen’ van individuen. Van feministische zijde kwam daar nog de afkeer bij tegen geschiedschrijving met ‘grote mannen’ in de hoofdrol. Al met al een dodelijke cocktail. Maar nu: een tsunami van biografieën Inmiddels is alles anders. Het anti-biografische klimaat is de afgelopen vijfentwintig jaar dermate drastisch omgeslagen dat het bijvoorbeeld moeilijk is geworden om een prominente, twintigste-eeuwse Wynia's week: De parallelle levens van Hans en Hans | 1 De parallelle levens van Hans en Hans politicus te noemen wiens leven nog níet is geboekstaafd. INTRODUCTION From 10 to 12 June 2013, HOPE held its Agora in The Hague (Netherlands), concluding the 32nd HOPE Exchange Programme, a 4-week training period intended for hospital and healthcare professionals with managerial responsibilities. “Patient safety in practice. How to manage risks to patient safety and quality in European healthcare” was the topic of HOPE Exchange Programme 2013. The final evaluation meeting of the HOPE Exchange Programme was preceded by a conference on this theme on 11 June, organised by the Dutch Hospitals Association (NVZ) and the Dutch Federation of University Medical Centres (NFU), in collaboration with HOPE.
