LATEST RELEASES New beers that hit the market last week. BREWERS CORNER How COVID-19 is effecting consumers and brewers. SAVE OUR BREWERIES Buy direct from the brewery to help them survive. ISSUE6 SIX March 30th 2020 What's Up? No apologies again this week as our newsletter is packed with FREE adverts from breweries with their online shop details and emergency plans. New beer releases dropped substantially last week as the pandemic really started to bite and are likely to reduce further in the coming weeks as brewers finish canning what they have in their fermentation tanks. Every tap room has closed but most breweries are still selling their beers online. It is our duty as Craft Beer lovers to help support them by buying as much as we can! If your local brewery or retailer are not featured yet, please suggest to them that they reach out us, to claim their COMPLETELY FREE advert next week, and every week until the madness subsides. Buying directly from the brewery is a huge boost to their bottom line. Now is not the time to be buying beer from the supermarkets! Great independent beer needs your support to survive! Visit this site to find out where you can obtain well-crafted beer online or to collect – it’s a great resource! https://www.beerishere.org/ LATEST CRAFT BEER RELEASES W/C 23rd MARCH 2020 Pilot Beer Amber Jamm 4.9% Red Ale Classic amber ale packed with Enigma hops. The Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) are being very proactive with their communications and are publishing their almost daily information emails to their website, so that they can be accessed by non-members as well. https://www.siba.co.uk/coronavirus-covid-19-latest-advice-guidance-for-brewers/ Meanwhile, in the USA, Brewbound are hosting a free Webinar entitled Navigate the Industry Response to COVID-19 Thursday 2nd April starting at 10am UK time. This should be just over two hours of interesting content featuring Dogfish Head Founder Sam Calagione, as well as several other US Craft Brewing Industry Leaders. https://www.brewbound.com/events/brewtalksvirtual20 Analysts Discuss Consumer Shifts Caused By COVID-19 This is an interesting, and somewhat sobering video interview with two US Analysts (and craft beer fans) from Rabobank, talking about what they see as the impact and the opportunities that present themselves to Craft Breweries with the current situation, as well as what the World will look like afterwards. It does end on some quite positive notes! https://www.brewbound.com/news/rabobank-analysts-discuss-consumer-shifts-caused-by-covid-19-e- commerce-opportunities-and-more EMERGENCY PLAN GUIDANCE FOR BREWERS We have been impressed with the creativity and innovation being displayed by our Industry. If you need some inspiration, here is a handy guide to what the Breweries in the State of Oregon, USA are offering: https://www.beervanablog.com/beervana/2020/3/18/Buying-Guide-to-Oregon-Beer General consensus seems to be that breweries should be thinking seriously about: • Local Delivery Service • Selling Gift Cards • Extending opening hours for off-sales Breweries who are in at least a semi-urban location could implement a delivery service, at a reasonable cost. However, care is needed to ensure the recipient is over the legal drinking age. Another good idea is selling Gift Cards in a range of values, valid for taproom credit for 12 months from date of issue. No need for any fancy gift card designs or complicated workflow - just an email containing a receipt and a serial number will suffice. (As an added bonus, this is a great way to obtain the email addresses of customers!) A simple list behind the counter that is amended as vouchers are used is quite sufficient. To facilitate customer’s desire to buy take out cans and bottles and to avoid contact with others, opening hours may need to be extended. Going contactless and card only will also avoid the risk of cash changing hands. (Obviously payments over £30 will still require a PIN entry) There are several UK Taprooms offering significant discounts to NHS and Emergency Services workers, and also to other society groups who are either being called upon to provide extra public service or have been significantly impacted by the current situation. The Beervana Blog (based in Oregon, USA) continues to publish almost daily articles, aggregating the collective experiences of the vast number of Craft Breweries in the State. Lots of great 1st party accounts of what is working, and what isn’t. https://www.beervanablog.com/home EMERGENCY PLANS OF THE WEEK Each week in this section we will highlight the Emergency Plan(s) that have particularly caught our eye for their creativity or generosity.
