Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – June 30, 2020…This Saturday, BMW Team RLL will restart the 2020 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Daytona International Speedway, some four months after beginning the season with the team’s second consecutive victory at the Rolex 24 At Daytona in January. In every other case, the two-hour-and-forty-minute IMSA WeatherTech 240 At Daytona would be the singular focus for the team that was sidelined by the world’s Covid-19 pandemic, but BMW Team RLL and the entire BMW family is now sending its love to teammate Alex Zanardi, who was severely injured in a hand bike accident in Italy on Friday, June 19. Zanardi, the multiple IndyCar and Paralympics champion, made his return to the North American racing scene in January of 2019, driving specially-prepared BMW M8 GTE in the Rolex 24 At Daytona. - 2 - “Alex is loved worldwide,” said Bobby Rahal, Team Principal. “Whichever discipline he has chosen to compete in, he goes after it with an indomitable spirit. -

Despite being the shortest of the endurance races on the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship schedule, the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen is traditionally one of the most difficult. That was proven today here at Watkins Glen International as the two-car Porsche 911 RSR factory effort, Porsche North America, finished fifth and eighth in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class. The Team Falken Tire customer-owned Porsche 911 RSR finished ninth. The GT Daytona class battle was equally intense, as Magnus Racing took third in their Porsche 911 GT America followed closely by the Dempsey Racing Porsche 911 GT America in fourth. Porsche 911 RSR Starting tenth, the No. 911 Porsche North America Porsche 911 RSR ran consistently near the front of the GTLM pack throughout the six-hour race. With works drivers Nick Tandy (Great Britain) and Richard Lietz (Austria) splitting driving duties on the historic track in the Finger Lakes region of New York, the No. 911 was seventh as a caution flew with 10-minutes remaining. A dedicated effort by safety and corner workers cleared the caution-causing incident with time for a last lap battle to the checkered flag. Entering the last corner of the 3.4-mile, 11-turn facility, several cars made contact ahead of the No. -

Press Release August 31, 2019
Press Release August 31, 2019 Qualifying GTE, World Endurance Championship WEC, round 1 at Silverstone/Great Britain Best Porsche 911 RSR takes up the first race of the season from fourth place Stuttgart. The new Porsche 911 RSR (2019 model year) will start its racing debut from the second grid row. In qualifying for the season-opening round of the FIA World En- durance Championship at Silverstone (Great Britain), the Italian Gianmaria Bruni and his Austrian works driver teammate Richard Lietz planted the No. 91 car on fourth place. The reigning world champions Kévin Estre (France) and Michael Christensen (Denmark) claimed the sixth grid spot in the ca. 515 hp sister car with the starting number 92. Between the third free practice in the morning and the qualifying session at midday, the track conditions at the British Formula 1 circuit had changed significantly. The two new Porsche 911 RSR, which had performed impressively in the first session of the day, were not ideally setup for the different conditions. Bruni spun early in his second flying lap. A subsequent tyre defect damaged the front of the No. 91 vehicle. The me- chanics repaired the vehicle in record time so that teammate Lietz could clock a good lap time to secure fourth place. Christensen and Estre veered from the ideal line sev- eral times during their hot laps due to a less than optimal vehicle balance. Under these circumstances, more than sixth place on the grid was not possible. In the GTE-Am class, Porsche Young Professional Matteo Cairoli (Italy) and Egidio Perfetti (Norway) turned the second quickest time in the Porsche 911 RSR from last year. -

The mission statement of the new BMW M8 Coupe (fuel consumption combined: 10.8 – 10.7 l/100 km [26.2 – 26.4 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 246 – 243 g/km*) is to elevate the dynamic élan, agility and precision offered by a sports car to a new level. The decision to develop the production model alongside the BMW M8 GTE – which has already competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IWSC) in North America – has allowed the vehicle concept, powertrain and chassis technology of the new BMW M8 to be geared squarely to maximum performance and unfettered track capability.
