Regional Hydrological Impacts of Climatic Change—Hydroclimatic Variability (Proceedings of symposium S6 held during the Seventh IAHS Scientific Assembly at Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, 81 April 2005). IAHS Publ. 296, 2005. Influence of climate variability on water resources in the Bulgarian South Black Sea basin BERNARDO LIZAMA RIVAS1 & IVANKA KOLEVA-LIZAMA2 1 Department of Hydrology, National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, 66 Tsarigradsko Shosse, 1784 Sofia, Bulgaria [email protected] 2 Department of Ecology, University of Forestry, 10 Kliment Ohridski, 1796 Sofia, Bulgaria Abstract The South Black Sea basin in Bulgaria was selected as the study area. The region is of agricultural and forest importance for the country. The irrigation water demand increases in summer when most of the rivers in the region have low flows. The purpose of this research is to assess the variability of hydro-meteorological conditions in the study catchments. Long-term data (1952–2002) from some hydro-meteorological gauging stations, which are located in the study catchments, were used. In order to evaluate the influence of climatic factors on the water resources, the warm and humid conditions were analysed. Application of several statistical tests demonstrated that there are changes in runoff which are not caused by man’s activity. The features of the variations of these hydro-meteorological elements and their inherent trends are determined. The results of this study show that runoff has decreased considerably all over the study region in recent years. The significant tendency to a gradual reduction of runoff in the region is due to considerably decrease of the precipitation and increase of temperature.

  • Some Issues Related to the Recreational Use of Bulgarian Sites of Ornithological Importance and Their Potential for Development of Ecotourism
TURIZAM Volume 14, Issue 2 87-98 (2010) Some Issues Related to the Recreational Use of Bulgarian Sites of Ornithological Importance and Their Potential for Development of Ecotourism Georgi Leonidov Georgiev* Received: March 2010 | Accepted: June 2010 Abstract This paper analyses the Bulgarian avifauna. It tracks the development of the idea and creation of the concept for important bird areas (IBAs) as well as their role as a resource for development of Bulgari- an ecotourism. A special emphasis is laid upon the fact that Bulgarian territory accounts for only 1.06% of the Euro- pean continent. At the very same time, 382 bird species have been reported within its boundaries, or 74 % of the bird species, recorded on the continent. In absolute numbers, the total number of birds in Europe comes to 514 species and another 12, not included in the European list. Having in mid that 5.1 % of the world’s bird species can be found on the Old continent, their share in Bulgaria is 3.8 %, which makes Bulgaria, extremely important for bird protection in Europe and on the planet. The conducted analyses reveal that 142 bird species (36%) of the Bulgarian ornithofauna have unfavourable conserva- tion status and 21 of them are world-endangered species. The most important regions featuring -high est bird concentration are indicated in this analysis. Attention is paid to the fact that two major- migra tory routes pass along the country – Via Pontica and Via Aristotelis. Under observation are the Bulgarian important bird areas, representing one of the most significant -plac es for bird protection.

Opusc. Zool. Budapest, 2013, 44 (suppl. 1): 167–186 Data to three insect orders (Embiidina, Dermaptera, Isoptera) from the Balkans D. MURÁNYI Dr. Dávid Murányi, Department of Zoology, Hungarian Natural History Museum, H-1088 Budapest, Baross u. 13, Hungary. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract. The Embiidina, Dermaptera and Isoptera material, collected in the Balkans by the soil zoological expeditions of the Hungarian Natural History Museum and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences between 2002 and 2012, is enumerated and depicted on maps. New country records of six earwig species are reported: Chelidurella s.l. acanthopygia (Gené, 1832) from Montenegro, Anechura bipunctata (Fabricius, 1781) from Albania, Apterygida media (Hagenbach, 1822) from Montenegro and Macedonia, Guanchia obtusangula (Krauss, 1904) from Macedonia, Forficula aetolica Brunner, 1882 from Bulgaria and Forficula smyrnensis Serville, 1839 from Montenegro and Macedonia. Populations of Chelidurella Verhoeff, 1902 from Dalmatian Croatia and Montenegro probably belong to two undescribed taxa, but these are threated as C. s.l. acanthopygia herein and their morphological features are showed on figures. Due to its rarity in the Balkans, taxonomical features of the Macedonian Guanchia obtusangula specimen are also showed on figures. The webspinner Haploembia palaui Stefani, 1955 is reported from Crete for the first time, which represents the second occurrence in the Balkans. The order Isoptera is reported from Montenegro and the Aegean Isles for the first time, while Reticulitermes balkanensis Clément, 2001 is considered as a nomen nudum. Keywords. Earwings, Embioptera, Embiodea, webspinners, termites, new records INTRODUCTION Being less striking in appearance, and of whole lifecycle hided beneath stones and logs, we espite their conspiciuous appearance, fre- have even fewer data on the not so frequent Bal- D quency, low species number and easy identi- kanic webspinners (Embiidina).
