We were so pleased to see how this was met with enthusiasm and engagement from staff across all grades and departments. To take this work onto the next stage, we have now developed Trust-wide safety goals as we look to continue to provide the highest possible quality of care for our community, always asking ‘in what way can we do better?’ With visiting to our site greatly restricted during the pandemic, we have had to work in very different ways to ensure loved ones could keep in touch with relatives and carers. Serving a growing population of over 535,000 we care for people living, working and visiting east Surrey, northeast West Sussex, and south Croydon, including the towns of Crawley; Horsham; Reigate and Redhill. East Surrey Hospital is the designated hospital for Gatwick Airport and sections of the M25 and M23 motorways. It has a trauma unit, which cares for seriously injured patients in partnership with the major trauma centres at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Tooting, and Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. East Surrey Hospital has 800 beds and ten operating theatres, along with four more theatres at Crawley Hospital and a day surgery unit. We are a major local employer, with a diverse workforce of over 5,000 staff providing healthcare services to the communities we serve. The Trust is an Associated University Hospital of Brighton and Sussex Medical School and we are part of educating cohorts of final year medical students from the school each year under the supervision of our consultants. Kemp commented: “I think for us all we’ve managed to do is to do a bit of stockpiling, get some goods in, make sure we’re not held up. I think we’re more isolated than some because we don’t have a big market in Europe. The fallout for us will be what happens to the value of Sterling because that will affect the cost of our imports.” Not the first time that Focus SB has been featured by the BBC; on this occasion Focus SB was approached for a BBC Brexit special via local business support agencies instrumental in supporting the company’s successful entry into the China luxury construction market in October 2017. According to Philip Johnson, programme director at Locate East Sussex, the BBC had contacted the organisation urgently seeking companies to interview on the challenges of Brexit for a special news item.

    SEVENOAKS LOCAL GROUP SEPTEMBER 2016 NEWSLETTER Leaving the EU could remove some of the wildlife protection protected by the Habitats and the Birds Directives, and affect the funding of farming stewardship schemes which compensate farmers for loss of productivity when more environmentally friendly practices are employed. We therefore need to ensure that our government, whatever its political colour, continues to maintain the improvements in the environment that have been gained over the past decades and that all the campaigning and work of wildlife supporters like us is not undermined. Organisations such as the RSPB and the Wildlife Trusts are vital guardians and we must give them as much support as possible. It was good therefore to hear at the Sevenoaks Group’s AGM on 7th May that in the last financial year we had donated £3,800 to the RSPB, plus a further £544 from sales of goods, and also collected £7,741 from pin badge sales. Thank you to all our loyal supporters, some of whom have elected to receive this Newsletter electronically rather than by post. This year is already off to a good start, with participation in the National Trust Bird and Birdsong event at Knole Park in April, an Allotment Day in Sevenoaks in July and, also in July, a charity “bucket collection” at the Sainsbury Supermarket which raised £218.51. Our next event will be a tent at the Shoreham Heavy Horse Show on Sunday 4th September. This is always a highly enjoyable event, so do come along and visit us.     Appendix 1 Know Your Score – Alcohol Awareness Campaign 1. Introduction 1.1. After publication of the KCC Director of Public Health’s Annual report in 2015, on the challenges Kent faces around alcohol, KCC and partners across health, social care and supporting services, set themselves the challenge of offering Identification and Brief Advice (IBA) to nine percent of the Kent population. 1.2. To support this effort the Public Health team created a new online “Know Your Score” quiz, based on the Audit – C test. This was created on the KCC website, with a unique addition to make it more engaging, of experts providing video messages to people who complete the test, with the message varying depending on the level of drinking. 2. Early Implementation 2.1. The online test was launched in November as part of Alcohol Awareness Week. Which resulted in: TV and radio packages on BBC South East Today, KMFM and Heart FM plus a special alcohol awareness programme on BBC Radio Kent. 11 print articles across all Kent newspaper groups. Online articles on approx. 20 Kent news sites and partner organisations’ websites. 2.2. The story was widely debated and shared on social media, including: 12,527 impressions of KCC Twitter feed and 180 engagements Facebook posts on BBC South East Today and BBC Radio Kent pages (68,000 followers and 9,000 followers respectively). 2.3. The KCC website www.kent.gov.uk/knowyourscore received 2523 unique page views and 1770 tests were completed during the launch week. There were 1440 page views on Friday 20 November after BBC television and radio broadcasts.
