Next Meeting: May 2019 (date TBC) 5 | P a g e PRESIDENT’S REPORT To all club members, sponsors, players and supporters of the Strathmore Cricket Club, Season 2018/19 was the year we as a club made history. A year where we pushed ourselves on and off the field to achieve the ultimate success of a VTCA Senior Division Premiership, a moment in time that I couldn’t be prouder of our players, committees and supporters. A year where we made the decision to take our club to the next level with our senior recruitment, training regime, game preparation and mental strength. Club expectations were high on what we believed we could achieve on the field, and equally high on what we thought we could do off field. Season 2018/19 was not a ‘one hit wonder’. The planning for this success started nearly 10 years ago when we as a club decided we didn’t want to play small, we wanted to be the best club on and off the field we could possibly be. Previous committees worked hard to get our club into a financial position and to have a management structure that would mean we could ‘hit the go button’ when the time was right. It should be noted that senior success does not happen without a strong junior development program that we at Strathmore have had in place for many many years. The strength of this program was evident when looking at the ‘home grown’ players who helped steer our first XI to premiership success. Are we perfect? No, and we never will be. Were we pretty good this year? You bet we were! In fact, we were better than pretty good BUT complacency is what hurts clubs, we have a model that works well, other clubs are now asking us how we do it, but to rest on this success would be ego driven and to be frank, irresponsible. We want more, we will achieve more, but to do this we need to keep innovating and building on our vision of a strong pathway from juniors through to senior cricket. There were many pieces of the puzzle that needed to work together this year. Off Field General and Executive Committee Members - Thank you will simply never be enough. At the last AGM 22 people committed to driving our great club forward. Whilst our Executive Committee remained the same, our General committee consisted of 11 new faces, each one hand picked for their passion, knowledge and skills they could bring to the “off field team”. We were fortunate enough to have 10 senior players on our general committee, in what at times was a big ask of all of them, to contribute to and oversee portfolios from social, communications, fundraising and finance and that’s before they even stepped on the field. As an off field team, we were committed to building on the great work of Past President Trevor Doody and his committee and building on the fabulous grand final victories of our 2nds and 3rds in season 2017/18. 6 | P a g e Creating a culture where we were one was also a key objective. There was to be no division between senior teams, we were to bridge the gap between juniors and seniors, and we were to became a place where supporters and spectators wanted to be. This season we fielded 6 senior sides and 11 junior sides (boys and girls). There were many highlights from this season that we should acknowledge: Sponsors It goes without saying, sponsorship is critical for our club. It is becoming more challenging year after year to secure sponsorship and as such, this is a key area of focus for our club in the coming off season. The sponsorship forecast for season 2019/20 will be aggressive and ambitious, a goal that we must work very hard to achieve to ensure our ongoing success. We were lucky to secure new major sponsors for the next two years in Frank Dowling, Mortgage Choice and LTYB Strathmore. A huge thank you to Johnny Bassi and Nick Sabatino for brokering the deal with LTYB. We regained the support of Gusto’s Bakery in Napier St for another two years thanks again to Steve Jones for managing that relationship.
