On Thursday, June 15th everyone including staff and residents are invited to cowboy up and wear your favorite western wear to kick-off the Reno Rodeo. Put on your hat and pull on your boots! On that same day we will be going to town to watch as the Reno Rodeo Cattle Drive makes its way to the fairgrounds after driving cattle through the high desert for 5 straight days. Be sure to sign up at the concierge desk for the June 15th outing at 11:00am! If you want to go to the Rodeo, we will headin’ out for some grub and the show at 4:30pm on Tuesday, June 20th. Again make sure you are signed up on the bus sign-ups and let Terri in the Life Enrichment office know that you are going to need a ticket. Tickets are around $8 in advance. Salvation Army Apple Tree The Salvation Army is committed to providing low-income students with necessary school supplies but they need our help. Last year they were able to provide supplies for 750 students! Beginning June 27th we will have the Apple Tree and the collection barrel in the hall of the Living Room South and you have until July 21st to pick an apple off the tree, purchase the item(s) and return them to the collection barrel. Railroad Garden Tour A nurse that used to work at Cascades has this fabulous railroad garden and every year she shares it with all of us! In addition, her yard is featured on the cover of June, 2017 Garden Railways Magazine. She opens her home for her remarkable miniature railroad and garden tour. This is always the most popular outing we do every summer and this year we are offering two times to choose from. On Saturday, June 17th, you can catch our shuttle bus at 8:30am or 11:30am (We’ll stop at Steak & Shake for lunch on the way home from this one) – sign up for the bus at the concierge desk as usual. Parkinson’s Walk 2017 Join us for a beautiful walk around Virginia Lake for the Annual Parkinson’s Walk on Saturday, June 10th. We leave Cascades at 8:30am. After checking in with registration you can walk at your own pace and there are lots and lots of benches to rest on. Our bus will drive around and around the lake collecting our residents when they are ready to call it quits. Please join us! AARP Smart Driver Course Offered at Cascades This popular course takes 4 hours to complete and when you are done, many insurance compa- nies will give you up to a 10% discount on you insurance! This class will be held on Tuesday, June 13th in the Great Room from 1:00pm-5:00pm. If you want to attend, please call 1-877-846- 3299 to enroll. You will not be allowed to drop in on the class. Bit scary and I would say a number of you may have to go through beginner lessons again and also wear name tags lol. On the 9th of May the national association had their AGM with a number of clubs from throughout New Zealand that were involved. First time ever we had to run the meeting through zoom so talking to 40 odd people from around the country was quite weird but it worked. A number of remits were discussed and voted on with a collection of changes mostly good but a few I didn’t agree with but you all can see it all on the association website if you are interested in looking . Also senior and junior nationals were voted on where they should be hosted and that is also advertised on their website. Juniors next year will be in Porirua and Seniors will be in Wanganui.

    THE EVOLUTION OF ‘IMMERSIVE’ EXHIBTIONS AT THE V&A MUSEUM, LONDON – 2008-2021 By Victoria Broackes and Geoffrey Marsh 1. Introduction GCDN members have expressed interest in the potential of ‘immersive’ exhibitions and related ‘experiences’ as programmatic elements that can meet their ambitions for broadening the base of their audiences. Audience analysis does demonstrate that these ‘experiences’ offer the opportunity of a cost-effective option with the ability to attract larger and more diverse audiences. As a result, there is particular curiosity about whether there is a basic underlying methodology, which can, however, create varied outputs that are faithful to the character and mission of their own districts. A comprehensive study of immersive exhibitions would require a book, so, as a starting point, this review examines the experience of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London – where we and colleagues have curated a series of immersive exhibitions over the last fifteen years. It stresses this was an evolutionary journey where skills, opportunities and confidence built up over time. However, the growth of a (semi-) commercial immersive exhibition market over this period means that GCDN members may have the opportunity of short circuiting such a process by connecting to an increasing number of ‘off the peg’ products, systems and creators in the post-Covid world. Sections 2, 3 and 4 trace the evolution as it happened, not simply as a matter of record but also to illustrate the interplay of opportunities, technology, sponsorship and other factors that impacted what was produced.     Soldier’s Heart Foreword War is always, in all ways, appalling. Lives are stopped in youth, worlds are ended, and even for those who survive­and the vast majority of soldiers who go to war do survive­the mental damage done is often permanent. What they have seen and been forced to do it frequently so horrific and devastating that it simply cannot be tolerated by the human psyche. Now there is an attempt to understand this form of injury and deal with it. It is called post­traumatic stress disorder by those who try to cure it. They give it a technical name in the attempt to make it something almost incomprehensible, understandable, in the hope that, by doing this, they will make it curable. But in other times and other wars, they used more descriptive terms. In the Second World War the mental damage was called battle fatigue, and there were rudimentary efforts to help the victims. These usually involved bed rest and the use of sedatives or other drugs. In the First World War it was called shell shock, based on the damage done by the overwhelming use, for the first time in modern war, or artillery fire against soldiers in stationary positions (trenches). The concussion of exploding incoming rounds, thousands upon thousands of them, often left men deaf and dazed, many of them with a symptom called the thousand­yard stare. The afflicted were essentially not helped at all and simply sent home for their families to care for. Most were irrational; many were in a vegetative state.

It is customary to begin photoing at the upper left hand corner of a large dieet and to continue photoing from left to right in equal sections with a small overlap. If necessary, sectioning is continued again — beginning below the first row and continuing on until complete. 4. The majority of users indicate that the textual content is of greatest value, however, a somewhat higher quality reproduction could be made from "photographs" if essential to the understanding of the dissertation.

    Babe the Blue Ox Minnesota Tall Tales retold by S. E. Schlosser Well now, one winter it was so cold that all the geese flew backward and all the fish moved south and even the snow turned blue. Late at night, it got so frigid that all spoken words froze solid afore they could be heard. People had to wait until sunup to find out what folks were talking about the night before. Paul Bunyan went out walking in the woods one day during that Winter of the Blue Snow. He was knee-deep in blue snow when he heard a funny sound between a bleat and a snort. Looking down, he saw a teeny-tiny baby blue ox jest a hopping about in the snow and snorting with rage on account of he was too short to see over the drifts. Paul Bunyan laughed when he saw the spunky little critter and took the little blue mite home with him. He warmed the little ox up by the fire and the little fellow fluffed up and dried out, but he remained as blue as the snow that had stained him in the first place. So Paul named him Babe the Blue Ox. Well, any creature raised in Paul Bunyan's camp tended to grow to massive proportions, and Babe was no exception. Folks that stared at him for five minutes could see him growing right before their eyes. He grew so big that 42 axe handles plus a plug of tobacco could fit between his eyes and it took a murder of crows a whole day to fly from one horn to the other.
