To: NIAF Board of Directors, Members and Supporters

In 42 years of serving the Italian American community, NIAF has grown from The annual New York Gala was, again, a sold-out evening that proved to be one a promising vision shared by 19 pioneering Italian American leaders gathered of our most successful events ever in the Big Apple; and our 42nd Anniversary here in Washington, D.C., to the nation’s premier organization for Americans of Gala Weekend, in Washington, D.C., was a celebration of heritage, culture, Italian ancestry. community and contribution.

Throughout 2017, the Foundation realized continued growth and fulfillment On behalf of the NIAF Board of Directors, we are proud to be part of NIAF’s of our mission beginning with our commitment to education as we continue history as we build for the future, connecting new generations to our Italian to provide scholarships for Italian American students needing financial American heritage and culture, adding value to a strong civil society and assistance; through our funding grants to projects whose purpose and our democracy. goals align with NIAF’s; and through our support for, and creation of, programs helping to prepare the next generation of Italian American leadership. Thank you for your interest and support in helping us to achieve that goal.

In addition, the Ambassador Peter F. Secchia Voyage of Discovery program Going Forward enables college students to connect to their heritage and strengthen their ties to Italy’s culture while giving back to the community. This year we made it possible for 20 college students to travel to , our 2017 Region of Honor. In fiscal year 2017, we increased the growth of NIAF on Campus through our Italian American Leadership Fellowship, which assisted 15 young Italian American leaders to build programs and strengthen NIAF’s presence on their Hon. Patricia de Stacy Harrison & Gabriel A. Battista college campuses; and our Congressional Fellowship placed three Italian Chairpersons American college students as interns in the offices of members of the Italian American Congressional Delegation on Capitol Hill.

Based in our Nation’s , NIAF is recognized for our leadership role, advo- cating for America’s 25 million self-identified Italian Americans as we interact with leaders from government, industry and business here and in Italy. Our renowned Public Policy Forums feature members from both political parties and provide an opportunity for dialogue on a wide range of issues.

NIAF also serves as the bridge between business, cultural and governmental entities of the United States and Italy. In 2017, the Foundation promoted Sicily as our Region of Honor, both here and in Italy. The NIAF Board, comprising leaders from many sectors, traveled throughout major cities in Sicily meeting with their counterparts in business, Sicilian officials and other dignitaries. The Region was also prominently featured at the 2017 NIAF Gala in Washington, D.C., and the Expo.

In 2017, NIAF’s Italian American Leadership Council (IALC) continued to grow in numbers of Italian American leaders committed to supporting the Foundation and becoming an active voice for NIAF in their communities. 4 5
