I would like to extend my regards and gratitude to the enthusiasm and courage of many participants and the staff members of and artists and designers in 4 regions (Seoul, Tianjin, Taipei and Tokyo). President, Association of Asia Network Beyond Design Emeritus Professor, Sapporo City University First of all, I would like to offer my heartfelt congratulations on the Asia Network Beyond Design (ANBD) 2014 exhibition.

While I am originally Asian, it was when I became a university student that I first realized the greatness of the thought that flows through Asia. In addition, I went to an art museum in New York during spring break when I became a graduate student and there I was able to experience Japanese works of art, which made me realize the greatness of Japanese people all over again. I had grown up being Americanized without even knowing about it, and from that I had an interest in the shape of culture, which was the expression of the Asian mind and way of thinking. I began to think the state of the Asian spirit is very important precisely because we are currently in the midst of a globalized world. That is why I was very sympathetic when I learned of the spirit of ANBD. I feel exceptionally pleased that Tokyo Polytechnic University is able to hold an event that embodies this spirit.

I hope many people are able to experience this event and that it will contribute to the creation of a new network in Asia.
