COOPER ORNITHOLOGICAL CLUB PACIFIC COAST AVIFAUNA NUMBER 20 THIRD TEN YEAR INDEX TO THE CONDOR VOLUMES XXI-XXX 1919-1928 BY GEORGE WILLETT I i BERIkELEY. CALIFORNIA Published by the Club April 15, 1931 COOPER ORNITHOLOGICAL CLUB PACIFIC COAST AVIFAUNA NUMBER 20 . THIRD TEN YEAR INDEX TO THE CONDOR VOLUMES XXI-XXX 1919-1928 BY GEORGE WILLETT BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA Published by the Club April 15, 1931 Edited by JOSEPH GRINNELL an d _~EAN b1. I,INSDALB at the MUSCU~II of Vertelirrite Zoology Uniaersify of Culifornin NOTE The publications of the Cooper Ornithological Club consist of two series-The Condor, which is the bi-monthly official organ, and the Pacific Coast Avifauna. PACIFIC COAST AVIFAUNA No. 20 is the twentieth in the series of publications issued by the Cooper Ornithological Club for the accommodation of papers whose length prohibits their appearance in ‘The Condor. For information as to either of the above series, address the Club Business Man- ager, W. Lee Chambers, 2068 Escarpa Drive, Eagle Rock, Los Angeles County, California. INTRODUCTION The writer, with the assistance of his wife, has occupied several months in the preparation of this, the third ten year index to The Condor. In a general way it follows the second ten year index to The Condor and the latest ten year index to The Auk. A few minor changes have been made, however, which seem to the writer to add to the usefulness or simplicity of the arrangement. PLAN OF THE INDEX 1. AUTHORS. Titles of papers are in chronological order. Reviews and notices are included both under the name of the reviewer and the name of the reviewed. When two or more authors collaborate in a paper, the title is given under the name of each, excepting in cases where the list of titles is exceptionally long, when they are listed in full under the joint names of the authors. Full names of authors are given when known to the writer. 2. LOCALITIES. Names of authors in alphabetical order are placed under each locality, together with all citations referring to the locality indicated. 3. SUBJECTS. Papers dealing wholly or largely with certain subjects are indexed under the subject headings. 4. GENERA. Genera are indexed alone when they have been so referred to. 5. SPECIES AKD SUBSPECIES. Th ese are indexed most fully under their respec- tive genera, in alphabetical order. Here the citations are segregated as to localities and subjects. They are also indexed under the specific or subspecific name, in which case, if the list of citations is an extended o’ne, the reader is referred to the genus; where there are only one or two citations, these are listed. The scientific names of forms included in the A. 0. U. Check List are followed by their vernacular names. Forms not found in this list are indexed under their scientific names only. Vernacular names are listed separately, in alphabetical order, and referred to the scientific names under which they are most fully indexed. In general these are the names used in the 1910 edition of the A. 0. U. Check List. Under the headings New Genera, New Species, and New Subspecies, are listed those that have been described in the volumes covered by this index. 6. PHOTOGRAPHS OF BIRDS. Under this heading is a list of photographs or drawings of birds, their nests, eggs, or nest-sites. These are indexed alphabetically under the vernacular names of their subjects. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS The author is grateful to Dr. Joseph Grinnell for advice as to method of treat- ment and form of this index. A ck nowledgments are also made to the author’s wife, Mrs. Ora Willett, who assisted greatly in the work of compilation, as well as in checking the manuscript for errors and in reading proof.
