Year 4 were challenged to make an underwater board game as our home learning. We have worked very hard on them and we are looking forward to playing them with our grown ups on Thursday afternoon at our Blue Abyss Outcome. We are sure they will enjoy them and we are looking forward to showing off our underwater art and non chronological reports as well. We are so excited to show you.

Chicken Club

Our chickens are cared for by Chicken Care every Tuesday after school. A group of children from all year groups clean their food tray and put new food in for them. They then put new water in and clean their water tray. The chickens then get held by the children and get fed. During this time their bed gets cleaned so that they have a clean bed. We really enjoy taking care of our chickens. Sometimes we are lucky and find eggs too!

By Ophelia 6CM Year 4:

Year 4 went on a trip to the fascinating Bourne- mouth Oceanarium. We went to look at lots of amazing creatures including penguins and spider crabs. We all loved the shiny piranhas and the pig nose turtle. Next we went to the abyss and it was so cool and incredible—a lot of things glowed like glasses, shoes, paper and pencils. Some of the teacher’s vests were glowing. We were all wowed when we got shown the fossils. I think everyone enjoyed it because I certainly did.

Year 4:

As part of our topic about the “Blue Abyss,” we did some art work using oil pastels and ink. First we had to sketch our sea animal, we then went over it in oil pastels. We used contrasting colours to add detail and patterns. When we had finished our picture we went over it with watered down ink. The ink stuck to the paper but did not go onto the oil pastel. This meant that our animal stood out. Whilst the ink was still wet we sprinkled salt over it, which absorbed the water to cause a cool effect.

We had great fun doing it and are very impressed with the results.

COFFEE Glorious COFFEE

By Evie Sewell Do you love coffee? If you do, keep on reading. On Friday 21st September Oakdale Junior School held Macmillan Coffee Morn- ing. There was a lot of cake and adults could have some coffee. The cake was very delicious. Most people’s favourite type was chocolate. Also, some children in 5DW got chosen to do the George’s Marvellous Medicine play they did in Year 4. They sang 2 songs and said it was fun. Some more things that were there were Daisy Randall playing the Violin and someone else playing the Piano. They sounded amazing. Also, the choir sang a couple songs. They sang “Try Everything” From the film Zootropilis and the Gospel Melody. They raised over £600 pounds! Here are some quotations that people said “The cake was very delicious,” Emily in 4EV. “I love coffee, “ Miss Smith. I hope you have enjoyed this article and stayed until the end. Year 6:

This term we have been learning about World War 2 in Year 6. We have visited the tank museum which was a fun and exciting experience. Our current Year 6 novel is “Goodnight Mister Tom.” It is about a boy called William Beech who is evacuated to the country and goes to live with kind, old Mister Tom. We have been retrieving and infering information from the text to help with our reading skills.

In English we have written a balanced argument, a biography on Hitler and are writing a letter as a soldier from WW2. In topic, we have made our own propaganda posters which are encouraging people to help in the war.

SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS World Discovery Day at Bournemouth University International College

The winners of the One World By The Sea art competition were invited to a special World Discovery Day last week at Bournemouth University.

First we met a real Australian digeridoo player who taught our group how to make different sounds using a long pipe. We then took part in a percussion orchestra playing African drums and lots of unusual instruments like Boomwhakers. After lunch we had our faces painted and joined in with art activities like painting pebbles, writing our names in Chinese and origami. My favourite part was when I got to meet the international animals- Alpaca, mini chickens and giant fluffy rabbits.

On Saturday we met up at the Bournemouth Triangle International Festival to receive our certificates on stage in front of our parents. The exhibition is on display in the front gallery of BU International College in Landsdowne.

Year 2 Presentations

The Year 5 Performance Troupe have been on the road again! To highlight the wealth of opportunities and amazing facilities that Oakdale Junior has to offer, we have been visiting local schools to encourage Year 2 children and parents to attend our open evening to simply ‘have a look’. After a short rehearsal schedule (for which the children have given up some of their lunchtimes) 13 children were ready to perform a short scene from George’s Marvellous Medicine. After this they sang two songs, taken from the entertaining ‘Dahlicious Easter’ performance in March. The presentation was compared by Neha (Year 6, Parkstone House Captain) who did a fantastic job at opening and closing the presentation and of representing our school. Joe, Raeed and Summer also did a sterling job, performing an informative interview piece outlining all the facilities we have to offer. The chickens always cause a stir! We are so lucky to have them. Our thanks go to the committed troupe: Sully, Martha, Megan, Ella, Cameron, Lola, Millie, Lauren, Daniela and Summer.

They are looking forward to cascading their knowledge to the other Sport Lead- ers and organising these for the Year 3 children at lunchtime. They also had to generate their own ideas on how we can improve health and physical activity at school. Miss Davies

Cross country

Friday’s after school cross country club has proved popular again and after several weeks of training, the runners are beginning to get fitter. Unfortunately the first race in the Poole & East Dorset cross country league was cancelled but last week’s race at Baiter went ahead, much to everyone’s excitement. Teams were entered into the Year 5/6 races with the boys and girls running separately. Everyone completed the 1 mile long race and it was great to see the great team spirit displayed by the children as they cheered each other on. A particular mention must go to the Year 4 runners who were competing against pupils a lot older than them: Derren, Alex, Daniel, Mikolaj, Owen, Georgina, Lola and Rose

Well done to all those who took part in the race and many thanks to the parent/ carers who came to support.
