From a bed time story, told nightly by his mother, Isabelle, into the child's imagination, The Mighty Celestial, a powerful guardian from another world, swoops in to save her young innocent; a boy named “Jeremy”. However, when faced with a nemesis as horrible as Leukemia, can a mythical hero prevail? The film was shot over a span of three weekends. The meager budget ($1,800) was raised through donations from friends, fellow industry professionals, cast, and crew. Based on the childhood of writer/ director, Langley Mcarol, SUPERHERO is a tribute to his late mother. Without her love and sacrifices, during Langley's own childhood battle with Cancer, he would not be here today. The proJect got off the ground thanks in large part to The Cape Fear Independent Film Network (501 c3b), which provided a way to accept tax deductible donations. Additional special thanks goes out to the late MC Earny, Don Payne, St. Mary's School, New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and each and every person who has shown so much support for this film. THE ACTORS Tammy Arnold (Actor) – Ms. Arnold has worked in Film/ Television, and Theatre for over 30 years. In 1975, he moved to Los Angeles beginning a twenty five year run as a character actor continuing to act on stage, but additionally working in feature films, in nightclubs doing comedy and especially on television with hundreds of TV appearances in both comedies and dramas. His most recent credits include Drop Dead Diva, and Little Red Wagon. The Actors (continued) Rayce Gibson, Skyler Narotsky, Caitlyn Brarens – These three young Actors gave SUPERHERO the youthful energy that, not only aided the film, but worked as a reminder of why we make films in the first place... the sheer Joy. Rayce Gibson – Though relatively new to film, Rayce has had extensive experience on Stage. His recent appearances in Alice In Wonderland, and in the title role of Oliver. He has a natural ability, and is comfortable working with the camera, as well as, his fellow performers. THE FILMMAKER Langley McArol (Writer/Director/Producer) – Mr. McArol has been a professional Actor for the better part of his life. SUPERHERO is not the first, but is the greatest in writing/directing accomplishments, thus far, for McArol. His television pilot script for a series titled, One of the Girls, placed as a Quarter Finalist in Script-A-Palooza (2009), and NexTV (2010). His Acting credits include: One Tree Hill, Dawson's Creek, Going To California, and the 2011 feature release, BOLDEN. At the age of 11 months, Langley was diagnosed with a rare malignant tumor. For nearly 3 years, he was treated with high doses of radiation, and chemotherapy. Given a 10% chance of long-term survival, the doctors had nearly given up hope. 32 years later, Langley is a healthy, respected, Actor/ Writer, and Producing his own productions in the South East. He earned his SAG card in 2001 from respected Film/Television Director, DJ Caruso (Disturbia, The Shield). Critics have referred to Langley's performances on stage, and screen, as “Spellbinding”... “Hilarious”... “Genuine”... and “endearingly sensitive”. “My mother gave up a lot to raise me, as a single parent. Which, also having to deal with my health issues, wasn't an easy task. I owe everything I have to her, and what she sacrificed. SUPERHERO is my way of utilizing what I've learned, and the industry friends I've made, to say Thank You, and let everyone know what type of person she was. Mom was truly MY superhero.” SUPERHERO is a tribute to Langley's mother, who passed away when Langley was a teenager. Langley spent the next few years, orphaned, moving from place to place. He attributes his ability to Jump life's hurdles, and the success of his minor accomplishments as a performer, to his mom. Most importantly, SUPERHERO captures the spirit of a parents unconditional love, and all the sacrifices they make for those they hold so dear. Many people will be able to relate to this touching story. I'm one of them.
