A new breed of criminal ravages Gotham City, forcing year-old Bruce Wayne back into the cape Batman: The Dark Knight Returns cowl. But, does he still Batman: The Dark Knight Returns what it takes to fight crime in a new era? The story is faithfully recreated here, with very little censorship of the violence, and most of the included dialogue straight from the pages of the comic, albeit with some forgivable changes. The pacing is excellent, and really captures that sense of "awesome" that the graphic novel had. The visual style is "close enough" to Millar's work to give you flashbacks, but of course it lacks the detailed nuances of the comic. And lastly, the music fits everything perfectly. Some complaints, though. First and foremost, the acting lacks passion. Virtually all the main characters play "middle of the road" emotions well, but any extreme was unconvincing to me. It's almost like there was a "no shouting! Nobody gets really angry, or forceful, or upset. Even so, it's nowhere near as disappointing as the acting in Batman Year One. Also missing is Batman's inner monologue- which I guess can be forgiven since movies are a visual medium, but ultimately we lose some of the comic's best lines because of it. Though they do try to force some of batman's narration into the movie as dialogue, it doesn't work that well Batman: The Dark Knight Returns all. One change I'm not sure about is the PG censorship to the script. They maintain the political dichotomy that Batman: The Dark Knight Returns in the comics, but it's way toned down. They seem to want to avoid alienating people on either side of the political spectrum perhaps wisely. Some of the humor is still there, but again, it's got kid gloves on. In the end, though, this is a wonderful execution of a great story. I eagerly look forward to Part 2!! Looking for something to watch? The st. The story depicts Bruce Wayne as an old man, coming out of retirement to be Batman again. Miller would go on to write a companion story in titled Year Oneshowing Batman's first adventure. This is later established as the " Dark Knight Universe. DKR was originally published as a four-issue limited series in a then-new printing format called prestige format. This format later became more Batman: Dark Knight Returns. Just as the characters of Norse mythology Batman: Dark Knight Returns their Ragnarok, Frank Miller sought to create a fitting end for the character of Batman. DKR takes place in a timeline outside the continuity of the DC Universebut is still considered at least partially faithful to the source material and Batman: Dark Knight Returns mythos at the time it debuted, as it makes use of Post-Crisis characters. Certain elements of the main DC Universe did eventually come to match Miller's tale, most notably some of the backstory of the series. For example, Miller's Batman is haunted by the death of Robinand later the character's lack of popularity led to the Batman: Dark Knight Returns Death in the Family story, where Robin Jason Todd is killed by the Joker. Also, an explanation of how Miller's Green Arrow 's lost arm is used, although in this latter case, continuity deviates somewhat from DKR.

{Read} {PDF EPUB} ~download Man-Eating Cow & the Chainsaw Vigilante The Complete Works by Clay Griffith Tick (comics) The Tick is a fictional character created by cartoonist Ben Edlund in 1986 as a newsletter mascot for the New England Comics chain of Boston area comic stores. He is an absurdist spoof of comic book superheroes. After its creation, the character spun off into an independent comic book series in 1988, and gained mainstream popularity through an animated TV series on Fox in 1994. A short-lived live-action TV series, video game, and various merchandise have also been based on the character. IGN's list of the Top 100 Comic Book Heroes of All Time ranked The Tick as #57. Contents. History. In 1986, 18-year-old cartoonist Ben Edlund created The Tick as a mascot for a newsletter of the Norwood, Massachusetts store New England Comics, where he was a customer. Edlund expanded this into stories, beginning with the three-page tale "The Tick" in New England Comics Newsletter #14–15 (July/August – September/October 1986), in which the hero escapes from a mental institution. [1] The character became popular and the store financed a black-and-white comic book series, with the first issue released in June, 1988, and subsequently reprinted at least nine times through the next decade, including later editions with additional content. The Tick's sidekick, Arthur, was introduced in The Tick #4 (April 1989). Spin-offs followed featuring characters such as Paul the Samurai, Man-Eating Cow, and Chainsaw Vigilante. Edlund continued to write and illustrate these projects initially through his years as an undergraduate film student at the Massachusetts College of Art.
