SPONSORS, INDUSTRY SUPPORTERS AND EXHIBITORS SPONSORS INDUSTRY SUPPORTERS EXHIBITORS 2 ABOUT IEEE POWER AND ENERGY SOCIETY The Power & Energy Society (PES) provides the world's largest forum for sharing the latest in technological developments in the electric power industry, for developing standards that guide the development and construction of equipment and systems, and for educating members of the industry and general public. Members of the Power & Energy Society are leaders in this field, and they — and their employers — derive substantial benefits from involvement with this unique and outstanding association. The scope of the Society embraces research, development, planning, design, construction, maintenance, installation and operation of equipment, structures, materials and power systems for the safe, sustainable, economic and reliable conversion, generation, transmission, distribution, storage and usage of electric energy, including its measurement and control. IEEE PES leads the IEEE Smart Grid Initiative bringing together IEEE’s broad array of technical societies and organizations through collaboration to encourage the successful rollout of technologically advanced, environment-friendly and secure smart-grid networks around the world. IEEE Smart Grid provides expertise and guidance for individuals and organizations involved in the modernization and optimization of the power grid. It is meant to serve as a stage for IEEE organizations to further promote the work they do in the Smart Grid arena, as well as, provide a collaborative space for its members to engage and encourage the successful roll out of technologically advanced, environment-friendly and secure smart-grid networks around the world. IEEE Smart Grid Initiative is intended to organize, coordinate, leverage and build upon the strength of various entities within IEEE with Smart Grid expertise and interest. IEEE Smart Grid Objectives are to: • Set the Global Standard via Collaboration • Provide Education, Research and Innovation • Expand Global Reach via Marketing 3 ABOUT THE MAJOR HOST 4 ABOUT ISGT In 2010, the IEEE Power & Energy Society launched a new conference called Innovative Smart Grid Technologies (ISGT) with a first meeting in January at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Conference Center in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA. The unqualified success of the first conference and numerous requests for more inspired PES to establish ISGT as a Conference Series, and to broaden the scope of the conference to include annual offerings in the USA, and international installations which have included ISGT Conferences in Europe, Latin America, Asia, Australia and the Middle East. Target audience are researchers, innovators, decision-makers, regulators, investors, experts and suppliers of solutions from the industry in all Smart Grids related work and study fields. The 7th Innovative Smart Grid Technologies (ISGT Asia 2017), the annual premier Smart Grid development meeting in Australasia region, sponsored by IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) will be held December 4 – 7, 2017 at Science Conference Centre, University of Auckland, New Zealand. The venue is located in the heart of Auckland– ‘The City of Sails’. Auckland has the iconic Sky tower, which is known for ushering the New Year, and a very stunning waterfront. The city and its surrounding offers delegates a clean & green landscape, beautiful beaches, exciting outdoor activities, ethnic cultural performances and warm kiwi hospitality. ISGT Asia is an annual global flagship meeting series, in the Asia-Pacific Region that attracts industry practitioners, policy makers and researchers to share and exchange the experiences, ideas and technologies on Smart Grid. The theme of this year’s conference is “Smart Grid for Smart Community” and includes industry panel sessions, Executive round table, tutorials, paper and poster presentation, Young Professionals session, Women in Power session, and opportunities for trade-exhibits and networking. A special welcome to non-members some of whom will also be presenting. It has been slightly more than 2 years, since this journey began with firstly the bid to host ISGT-Asia undertaken by IEEE PES Chapters of Central (Wellington) and Northern (Auckland) together expressing interest to host ISGT-ASIA 2016 in either Wellington or Auckland. The competition from various venues across Asia-Pacific was so intense that year, that we were offered to host the 2017 ISGT. As part of the bidding process I would like to take this opportunity to express our sincerest gratitude to Wellington and Auckland Convention Bureau’s, who helped prepared all the bid documents professionally which we strongly believe played a key part for winning amongst very stiff competition from other desirable locations across the globe. The electricity industry’s IEEE PES members from across New Zealand and the 4 NZ tertiary institutions where Power Engineering teaching and research is active i.e. University of Canterbury, Victoria University of Wellington, Auckland University of Technology and University of Auckland have also been very supportive of these efforts and are delighted for the opportunity to host collectively the IEEE Power & Energy Society strand of this global membership driven family together here ‘down-under’. This might be one of the very few, if not the first in New Zealand, when IEEE Power & Energy Society Technical Meeting with about 190+ technical presentations, forums and poster sessions typical of IEEE conferences is happening along with an Industry active panel and Executive Round table sessions on all the 3 days of the program with thought leaders and executives across New Zealand and Australia. This naturally means that the traditional culture and practices of the IEEE groups need to be met along with a blended program that appears seamless and representative to the global attendees who might be representing countries, institutions/ companies and as individuals. At the outset, we would like to acknowledge the patience and accommodation that each one of you extended before arriving here, as the organizing committee worked through the details and help establish a cohesive and integrated program that hopefully satisfies each one of your expectations and positive experiences during this conference. At the time of sending this handbook to the printers we have about 270+ attendees from about 27+ countries that are participating across various events during the 4 days. During the actual meeting, we expect some more local participants to register. In particular, we would like to thank Tommy Mayne Vice-President Meetings of IEEE PES and the ISGT- ASIA Selection Committee of 2016 for their approval to host ISGT-ASIA 2017 in Auckland and IEEE PES Executive Office under the leadership of Executive Director Pat Ryan for their support and advice during the program preparation and sharing expectation of the industry-academia-research balance expected of ISGT brand. 7 WELCOME FROM CHAIR – ISGT ASIA 2017 At this stage, I would also like to say a big ‘Nga mihi’ (Thanks) to our IEEE PES members and volunteers of all categories - PES NZ leaders, Regular, Senior and Student Members for being part of the local program that will capture and showcase the electrical power systems challenges, opportunities, experiences and engagements from New Zealand and Australia. There is active participation across the various events from Kiwi engineers, leadership, researchers, affinity groups- ‘Students, Women, Young professionals’ electricity stakeholders across the board and engineering societies which represents the breadth of New Zealand power systems, whose history is about 135+ years. The tag line for this conference is “Smart Grid for Smart Community” and during the four days of the programming will have 2 industry relevant Tutorials, Trade exhibit, Opening Plenary for 100% New
