Dhemaji: Embankment- The Kumatia Embankment on both banks are under constant high flood pressure. Free board observed only 25cm to 30cm at many reaches. Boiling and seepage occurred at many places of Gainadi and Kumatia dykes. Bank erosion taking place at balijan on left bank of Gainadi. Gainadi embankment under threat of high flood smoothly at the downstream portion. Left bank embankment (upstream) affected by erosion of Beora nalla at kachmari. Biswanath: Embankment- 1 (One), Chtrang River. Majuli: Road- Road damaged and submerged at Major Chapori Gaon. Other- The CRPF C/119 Bn Majuli Cam, Garmur have been affected. Karimganj: 31 Nos. of Roads have affected in various stretches as per report of the E.E. PWD (RR) Div. Karimganj 33 Nos of PWSS affected as per report of E.E., PHE Div., Karimganj. Animals Affected in National Parks - & Wildlife Sanctuary Urban Flood Kamrup Metro Partial Water Logging: Rajgarh Road, B.T college East & West, Lachit Lane Landslide - - Erosion - - # Nagoan: Only crop area affected under Sadar & Kampur Rev. There are a total of 78 Deori households in the village. There are total 428 Deori populations in the village out of which 233 are male and 195 are females. The primary data for demographic parameters regarding household census, population characteristics, educational status, occupational status etc were collected. Demographic indicators like sex ratio, literacy rate etc were also collected. Doley, Raju Pegu Research Scholar Gauhati University Assistant Professor Silapathar College Abstract The Government has identified Dhemaji district as the most backward and poorest district in the State, mainly due to the fact that most portion of the area is affected by yearly floods. The population inhabited by different people groups such as Mishing, Bodos, Deories, Assamese, Adivasi, Muslim and various non tribal groups. The total current population of Dhemaji is 688077.The male & female population showcasing 353043 and 335034 respectively. The Mishing community constitutes the largest population of the area. The Mishing people are active agriculturists. Their main occupation for livelihood is agriculture. In the past, they had a practice of shifting cultivation in the hills but after settling down in the plains, they are now practicing settled cultivation. The literacy rate of the Mishing people is poor. The State literacy rate has gone up to 73% percent whereas the Mising literacy rate is at 45% in the district. This is due to a lack of proper educational institutions, a lack of awareness and also due to the yearly flood disaster in the district. Education has been given very little priority. The health status of the people is very poor. Water-borne diseases in the area are rampant due to floods and stagnant water after the disasters.
