MISSION

MAKE JESUS KNOWN & MAKE DISCIPLES

WORSHIP. CONNECT. SERVE. Thank you for your time, attention, and consideration of Valleydale Church. Over the last few years and during this current time of transition, God has been preparing our church for new opportunities and empowering us for continued work to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and serve our community. Thus, we are excited for how He will use our next Senior Pastor to lead, shepherd, and equip all of our members to make Jesus known and make disciples in Birming- ham, across our nation, and throughout the world. We are expectant that God will reveal His will to our church and to the individual whom He has ordained and prepared to fulfill His purposes in that role. We pray He may grant us all discernment to know how He will manifest that plan during this time.

We wanted to take the time to introduce you to Valleydale Church and the surrounding com- munity of Shelby County, and we hope that it will communicate who we are and how God has been working in our church. We appreciate your prayers during this time, and we look forward to having further conversations with you about Valleydale Church.

Sincerely,

VALLEYDALE LEGACY, FIRST 40 YEARS: VIMEO.COM/75114766

RECENT HISTORY

At Valleydale Church, our mission is simple, MAKE JESUS KNOWN AND MAKE DISCIPLES. In fall of 2013, Valleydale began the first Make Initiative. The Make Initiative aligns the church’s resources with vision for the following two years through a one-fund approach.

Valleydale set out to MAKE JESUS KNOWN AND MAKE DISCIPLES in the following ways: • Make the Mission Continue with excellence in Ministry • Make Disciples around the world • Make Great Environments for our church • Make More Possibilities through debt freedom • Make Jesus Known in our city

With our mission to MAKE JESUS KNOWN AND MAKE DISCIPLES, Valleydale knows it takes strategic vision, leadership and resources. Valleydale has been intentional to set up biblical church structure to fulfill this mission. VALLYDALE CHURCH

PROFILE

Since Make Initiative began in 2013, the church has taken these strategic steps:

IN 2014, STAFF AND LAY MEMBERS REWROTE VALLEYDALE BAPTIST CHURCH BYLAWS. This set the course for present-day leadership structure, membership including church discipline and governance.

BY FALL OF 2014, VALLEYDALE INSTITUTED AN ELDER LEADERSHIP TO FURTHER PROVIDE PROTECTION, SHEPHERDING AND OVERSIGHT. This plurality of elders oversee and shepherd the members of the Church; provide vision, leadership, and oversight to the work of the staff, deacons, and committees; equip the membership for the work of the ministry; encourage sound doctrine and practice; admonish and correct error; oversee the process of Church discipline; pray for the sick; promote and give leadership to the ministries of the Church; lead in mobilizing the Church for world missions; and are firmly committed to praying for the pastoral staff.

THE MISSIONS COMMITTEE Provisioned by the church bylaws in 2014, this committee is charged with the responsibility to exercise oversight of mission efforts and partnerships, as well as financial accountability of the Missions Committee budget. The Missions Committee encourages and equips members of Valleydale to grow in mission awareness and become involved in mission activities. Our church mission statement is simple and reflects what God has called the church to do: Make Jesus Known and Make Disciples. We think God has called us to spread the name and fame of His Son, Jesus Christ, in our families, in our community, in our nation, and in our world. In doing so, we are working to produce more people whose lives are dedicated to knowing and following Christ.

IRON CITY CHURCH In Fall of 2013, Valleydale Church launched a Missional Multi-site in downtown Birmingham called Iron City Church. Iron City Church’s goal is four fold: For Unity, For Diversity, For the City, and For the Glory of God. Over the past 3 years, a faithful congregation made up of people of all ages, all walks of life, and diversity in ethnicity attend, fellowship, serve and press into the word of God together. Because of Valley- dale Church’s support, the dream of building a diverse congregation of believers is taking shape in downtown Birmingham. • 168 Total Members • 18 Baptisms to date • 220 individuals weekly gather in small community groups throughout the city VALLYDALE CHURCH

Valleydale Church is pleased to offer BIBLICAL COUNSELING services and training. Lou is a graduate of Calvary Bible College and Liberty University, a Fellow in the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors, and is an instructor with the Birmingham Theological Seminary.

At Valleydale, we seek to make Jesus known and make disciples of all people. One way we do that is to make great environments for our members and guests to experience the Gospel of Christ. To that end, we have created a SPECIAL NEEDS MINISTRY that seeks to provide an environment of inclusion for individuals with unique needs and their families. Better put, our objectives for this ministry are: • To create an environment where individuals and families with unique needs know they are welcomed and valued as members of Valleydale Church • To develop opportunities for individuals with additional needs to worship God, connect with others and serve the world

VALLEYDALE MEN exist to make Jesus known by equipping men for personal growth, disciple-making and service. Regular teaching and fellowship events also take place throughout the year, such as Men’s Breakfast and Man Church. VALLYDALE CHURCH
