The Good Eats Cookbook THE GOOD EATS COOKBOOK Every single bloomin’ recipe from the Food Network show, Good Eats, starring Alton Brown. (Date Ending: December 1, 2005 ; Show Ending A Pie in Every Pocket ) Recipes From: Foodnetwork.com Formatting By: Michael Menninger, Mikemenn Productions © 2005 Copyright 2005 Mikemenn Productions Page 1 What’s in this Cookbook? Good Eats starring Alton Brown has a lot of good recipes. Instead of surfing the web, why not print them all out and stick them into a binder? This cookbook is a compilation of all the recipes in a unique and easy to read format. The recipes come from foodnetwork.com and can also be found in verbal form from the episodes of the show. Print out the Odd pages first, restack and flip and then print out the Even pages next. What’s up with the format of the recipes? I hate the normal format for recipes. You can’t find where you are in the recipe very easily and it’s hard to determine which ingredient goes in when. With the layouts in this cook book, each step is linked to the ingredients for that step and each step is broken out and numbered for easy remembering. I hope you like it. Where’d you get the data for each recipe? That, too, came from Food Network. I sometimes filled in my best guess. However, if there’s little or no info, that’s because Food Network didn’t provide it. What if I need more info about the recipe? Each recipe is noted from the show it came from on Good Eats. (Note: The title noted is the actual title. Sometimes FN has a different title.) You can visit the Good Eats Fan page at GoodEatsFanPage.com and find the specific show’s transcript to read what Alton said about it. Short of recording the episode from the TV, you can also purchase many of the shows on DVD from foodnetwork.com and watch them there, too. In fact, the DVDs have bonus material with Alton reading and answering questions about that episode. Visit the GEFP for a way to get 10% the DVDs. They’re worth the cost and make great presents. BUT, my transcripts are free so I suggest you start there first. How come the recipes don’t always follow the show? Good question. I’m glad you asked. Information about the show is submitted to Food Network in advance of the show’s taping. Often times, things are changed about the script, scene and recipe even up until the time of shooting. Food Network rarely goes back and changes their information. It’s up to you as to which to follow. What’s with the Copyright? Well, you can’t copyright a recipe. That’s my understanding. But you can copyright the work of formatting, etc. The recipes in this cookbook aren’t copyrighted. But the work I put into this cookbook is copyrighted. You have the right to pass along this cookbook intact. But don’t go trying to sell it anywhere such as eBay. ‘Nuff said. Hey, I found an error! So sue me. I make them. I’m only human!!! Seriously, I’d love any corrections so don’t hesitate to forward them to me for future updates at [email protected]. • Alton Brown Biography
Press Contact: Lauren Sklar Phone: 646-336-3745; Email [email protected] Alton Brown Biography Although Alton Brown spent plenty of time in his mom’s kitchen growing up, his real interest in food sparked in college when he discovered that girls who said “no” to dates sometimes said “yes” if he offered to cook for them. His social life never ignited, but the food spark did and after spending a decade behind the camera in the TV industry, he headed to culinary school in hopes of one day creating a new kind of cooking show. Good Eats , the show that Brown would go on to wrote, produce, and host ran for 13 years on Food Network before making the move to Cooking Channel where it airs to this day. Combining food science, pop culture, skit humor, innovative cooking, and the occasional belching puppet, Good Eats has millions of fans and garnered a coveted Peabody Award for broadcast excellence in 2007. Brown has also served as the culinary commentator of Iron Chef America for 11 seasons, and hosted The Next Iron Chef for 5. Brown took home the James Beard Award for top food show host in 2011, which bookends nicely the one his first book nabbed in 2002. Speaking of books, he’s written 7 the last three of which made the New York Times Best Sellers List. In 2012 he joined the cast of Food Network Star as a mentor and yes...one of his team members won. He’ll be back on Star again in 2013. But wait, that’s not all.

  • INDIVIDUATION and MYSTICAL UNION Jung and Eckhart
MARK JAMES INDIVIDUATION AND MYSTICAL UNION Jung and Eckhart Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) regularly quoted Meister Eckhart (ca.1260-1328) approvingly in his writings on Christianity.1 Jung thought that Christianity was suffering from arrested development and saw in Eckhart an ally. For Jung Chris- tianity and Christian symbols were in danger of being eclipsed because they no longer spoke to the human condition in the twentieth century. Churches that were supposed to care for the salvation of the soul were no longer able to help the individual achieve metanoia, the rebirth of the spirit. The Christian faith had lost its ability to connect people with an experience of the inner presence of God in their lives. Christianity, he believed, proclaimed an externalised God, a God aloof from people’s experience. While this externalisation of religion united individuals into a community of believers and even empowered them to provide a valuable social service to society, it lacked the capacity to transform the person’s inner life.2 It reinforces the idea that everything originates from without the person. A new process of self-nourishment was required which feeds a person’s interior life from internal not external resources. This means that Christianity could no longer remain a creed or a dogma of beliefs to which people adhered. In Eckhart, Jung saw a man after his own heart who sought to proclaim an immanent God and move away from the conception of God as ‘wholly other’.3 This comparative study seeks to contribute towards the ongoing discussion regarding the relationship between psychology and mysticism in spirituality stud- ies by engaging Jung and Eckhart in a dialogue with each other.
