Bearstone Brochure BEARSTONE STUD STALLIONS FOR 2020 The Source of Speed Glass Slippers - Prix de L’Abbaye de Longchamp Gr.1 www.sdphotos.co.uk 2019 has been another exciting year at Bearstone Stud We were pleased to see the first runners by FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH reach the racecourse. At the time of writing, his runners have already recorded 25 wins and places including Gravity Force who finished a good fourth in the Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes at Newmarket. The fact many of his offspring have plenty of size and scope encourages the belief they will continue to progress as three-year- olds. FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH himself improved by ten pounds on Racing Post ratings between the Windsor Castle Stakes and his Group 3 win the following season. Next spring will see the arrival of the first foals by WASHINGTON DC who covered a good book of mares this year. Our sense of anticipation has only been heightened by the excellent progress made by his sire Zoffany. He has sired more than one hundred winners this season, twenty five of them two-year-olds including the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac winner Albigna, one of his 26 black type horses this year. WASHINGTON DC is the only son of Zoffany currently at stud. Albigna’s success came just a few hours before our own personal highlight of the season when our homebred filly GLASS SLIPPERS gave us such a tremendous thrill by winning the Group 1 Prix de L’Abbaye de Longchamp in such devastating style. We will be keeping her in training, as she is such a wonderful advertisement for the stud and everything we are working to achieve. Since 1994, we have bred the winners of over 879 races, 56 in 2019, including several other Group 1 successes and a champion juvenile. We have also stood two stallions which sired Group 1 winners despite never standing for more than £4,500 - it can be done! At Bearstone Stud, we will always strive to offer breeders a professional and friendly service tailored to your individual requirements. You are most welcome to visit the stud by appointment to see what we have to offer and we will do all we can to assist in planning your matings for 2020. • O'toole Still Wild About the Game
WEDNESDAY, 19 FEBRUARY 2020 O'TOOLE STILL WILD LUCRATIVE BONUS FOR INAUGURAL IRISH EBF BALLYHANE S. ABOUT THE GAME By Emma Berry LEIGHLINBRIDGE, Ireland--It's all systems go at Ballyhane Stud with the breeding season underway and its new stallion Soldier's Call (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) already in demand, and on Tuesday the Co. Carlow stud hosted the official launch of a valuable new race sponsorship. The Irish EBF Ballyhane S., to be run over six furlongs at Naas on Monday, Aug. 3, is open to juveniles by a sire registered with the European Breeders' Fund whose median sales price is no more than i75,000, with weights allocated on a sliding scale according to that price. The total prize fund of i200,000 will certainly provide a decent lure for connections but there is an extra cherry on top for any owner with a 2-year-old in training by one of the established Ballyhane sires. SUNDAY, 5 APRIL 2020 TDN Q&A WITH FRANCIS GRAFFARD HARRINGTON WAITS ON Trainer Francis Graffard got off to a flying start this season in FLAT=S RETURN France before racing was brought to a halt. He speaks with the TDN=s Sean Cronin about the current situation regarding the Coronavirus pandemic. TDN: We are now well into the confinement imposed by French authorities. How are you managing everything at the stable? FG: The daily routine goes on without any major problem. We have taken all sanitary measures imposed by our government=s Health department like washing hands regularly, distancing, no regrouping. We have done even more like closing the room where employees had a coffee break and I have also ordered the tack room closed. Each employee keeps their saddle, bridle, and so on in their own car to avoid people being too close to each other. Once they ride out distancing is not a problem as Jessica Harrington=s stable is loaded with Classic fillies | Racing Post they all walk one behind another as usual. I would say that the ambiance is excellent. They all love to come to work, rather than staying confined at home. The entire staff feels the importance By Tom Frary of the moment. Cont. p3 Jessica Harrington=s anticipated early assault on Ireland=s turf season remains on hold as the latest governmental coronavirus measures has seen a stalling of the countdown to the resumption of racing. AWe=re keeping our heads down and keeping positive,@ the trainer said. AWe are lucky enough that we have a very good team who are in every day and work very hard.

Albert Edward (3yr Bay Gelding) Brian Meehan’s son of Zebedee caught my eye last season, notably on his debut in a 6f maiden stakes at Newbury in September. Steadily away he made late headway in the closing stages to finish a never-nearer sixth of 15 behind the impressive winner Theotherside. His next two runs came in warm novice contests at Newmarket, the third of them won by last weekend’s impressive winner King Leonidas. An opening mark of 65 seemed very fair but he was outpaced throughout on his return in a 7f 0-65 at Chelmsford before making late headway. As a half-brother to five winners, all of them over a mile up to middle distances and hurdles and out of a mare by Bering, he is bred to stay beyond a mile so it’s no surprise he was outpaced over seven furlongs. As anticipated last week he has dropped 1lb, from 65 to 64. He has been declared to run in a 7f 0-70 handicap at Newmarket on Friday (2.00). Black Buble (6yr Bay Gelding) 4th 25/1, L 12/1, L 6/1 Black Buble, who did very well for us last season winning three times, was totally unsuited by the track when he ran at Fakenham on New Year’s Day.
