The IBRD team was led by Ismail Radwan (Country Program Coordinator) and Elisabetta Capannelli (Country Manager for Romania). The IFC team was led by Ana Maria Mihaescu (Manager, CEURO) and Kartick Kumar (Strategy Officer, CEUST). MIGA participation was led by Franciscus J. Linden (Senior Risk Management Officer). The CPS Core Team included: Allison Berg, Christian Bodewig, Cornelia Boranescu, Maya El-Azzazi, Ines Fraile, Corina Grigore, Isfandyar Zaman Khan, Daniel Kozak, Alberto Leyton, Mihai Magheru, Jean-Francois Marteau, Moritz Meyer, Alexandra Nastase, Catalin Pauna, Pedro Rodriguez, Ken Simler, Nistha Sinha, and Theo David Thomas. The entire Romania Country Team including both IBRD and IFC has been involved in the CPS preparation through intensive workshops and brainstorming events.     60 Global Education Review 2(4) Rural/Urban Disparities in Science Achievement In Post-Socialist Countries: The Evolving Influence of Socioeconomic Status Erica L Kryst The Pennsylvania State University Stephen Kotok University of Texas at El Paso Katerina Bodovski The Pennsylvania State University Abstract Disparities in educational outcomes exist between students in rural areas as compared to students in urban settings. While there is some evidence that these rural disparities are present in eastern Europe, little is known about young peoples’ lives in the rural areas of this region. This paper presents an analysis of science achievement by location (rural v. urban) using all available waves of the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). We examined the eighth grade data from five countries: Lithuania, Romania, the Russian Federation, Hungary, and Slovenia. Findings demonstrated that students attending rural schools had significantly lower science scores and that the rural disadvantage grew between 1995 and 2011 in some countries, but became non-significant in others. Overall, family socioeconomic status played an important role in determining the educational outcomes of rural students. The implications of these findings are explored in relation to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) 2015 Education for All goals.     FOREST PRODUCTS MARKET IN 2007 AND PROSPECTS FOR 2008 IN ROMANIA 1.General economic trends affecting the forest and forest industries sector In Romania, the year 2007 represents the sixth consecutive year of economical increment. The preliminary data supplied by the National Institute of Statistics x) confirms this fact. The National Commission of Prognosis estimates for the entire year 2007, an economical increment by 6.1 % and forsees an increment by 6.5 % in the year 2008, the unemployement rate will lie around 4.4 %, and it is forseen an inflation of 4.5 % for the end of year 2007 and of 3.8 % in 2008. In the year 2007 it is prognozed an agricultural production of 92 % from the production of year 2006, the contribution of the agriculture to the GDP building decreased, this generating in the first half-year 2007 only 3.4 % from national wealth (3.6 % in the first semester 2006). An important weight in the GDS building, had in the first semester, the services – with 51.4 % the second placed being the industry with 27.1 %. The construction generated 6.4 % from GDP, and, in accordance with the last estimates of the National Commission of Prognosis for the entire year 2007, will contribute with 7.9 %, in the coming year knowing a steady increment: 10 % from GDP at the level of the year 2010 (under the conditions of a GDP increment rate ranged between 5.7 % - 6.5 %).
