Disaster Management Center of Kerman Municipality Aims Mission

In the name of God

Disaster management center of Kerman Municipality Disaster management center of Kerman Municipality, in middle of January in 2004 after the earthquakes of Bam and Zarand by suggestion of Mr. Alavi, deputy of Bam earthquake task force and confirmation of governor, and the head of Kerman budget and planning organization was developed and from June of 2005 was begun to work as sample in Kerman municipality. The programs of this center have planned by consoler committee that comprised 20 professors of university and heads of different offices who effect on Bam.

Aims 1. Organizing and arrangement of executive factors of disaster management 2. Consideration of damages and different capabilities of city 3. the optimum usage of city capabilities and its neighbor cites 4. planning for enhancement of skills for reduction of damages 5. preparing of people group in order to hand over the relief and save tasks to them 6. developing on time responding group for national and international officer

These aims are according the structure of save and relief in country.

Kerman city is located in north of Kerman province and it is one of vulnerable cities. Kerman city has 724387 inhabitants. Its area is 44629/83 and it is the biggest city in this province. This city is in danger because of Golbaft- Kouhbana, Zangiabad- Baghin and rayen faults.

The situation of school The high school of Doctor Bakhoda is located in south of Kerman in Aboozar street that is in suburb of city slightly. This school is new built and in two floors. It has been built in 1997 and because of its location that is in the way of highway, it has important communication ways, especially in earthquake and other disasters. Around of this building there aren’t any tall buildings so there isn’t danger of falling. Three side of this school is surrounded by allay and some small factory that make sound pollution. This school has other problems like moral, economical and cultural ones too.

Society-base crises management training scheme was done during 2 stages in this center by cooperation of OCHA (by Mr. Nazari, OCHA’s agent in Iran) in 2012. In the first stage, Society-base crises management was trained to crises managers of metropolis’s municipalities during 24 hours, in 2 days, and in the second stage, this training scheme was done to Kerman local places mayors and this center’s employees during 44 hours, in 3days. Also, Kerman local place mayors learned relief training during eleven sections, during 5 months (sum: 44 hours) by Mr. Alavi as a trainer. During this stage, Strengths and shortcomings of Kerman’s sectors in crises time were determined and local places map were gave them to determine parks, open spaces, hospitals and clinics, schools, police stations, offices, mosques and religious places, monuments, historical places and museums, stores and type of them, bridges and their width, allays name and their width. After that, they bring the maps to center to be used for prepare of building map and vulnerability map of local places against various natural hazards. At the end of these trainings, local places mayors were accorded to register two volunteer 33-person groups, for men and women and training cert and SAR (search and rescue) to them. This scheme is implementing now. This center by cooperation of women health society has performed medicine examination of women from first of 2012 until now in 12 local places of Kerman and this scheme is performing every week in one local place. After medical examination, women that have been realized with some healthy problem will introduce to specialist physicians and their treatment will be free. This scheme characterizes women health status.

Research - Study of risks in Kerman city by GIS - Gathering of base information in GIS (the 1:2000 city plans and 1:25000 regions and preparing of geology layers and faults and plan of village and cities of Kerman province and city equipments…..) - Study of Kerman risks in GIS - consideration of geology situation of Kerman by GIS in this research , like the risk of earthquake, subsiding or inflation of earth, sewage system, air and underground water pollution of Kerman were studied. - Assessment of earthquake risk of Kerman and analyzing
