Year 8 project – Black Lives Matter Hello Year 8s, This week we will be focusing on Black Lives Matter (BLM) and the civil rights movement. Is racism getting worse? What can we do to stop racism? Lesson – Science- Black Scientist Task – Identify the contributions of some famous Black scientist. Annie Easley Lesson – Art Task – Create a piece of artwork to raise awareness in school on Black Lives Matter * Create a piece of artwork to show inclusivity for Black Lives Matter. You can use chalk, spray paints, LEGO, photography skills- anything! Look at some of the ideas below for inspiration. Make sure you share these on the School’s Facebook/Twitter pages and with Miss Masud and Mr Rogers. Staff will get to vote for the best design. This will be displayed in School. Good luck! His paintings are based on the Afro-Caribbean experiences in Britain. Lesson – Humanities –The American Civil Rights Movement Task- In the early 1900’s segregation in the southern states of the USA, meant that white and black people were separated from each other. Black and white people had separate sections of the buses and restaurants that they were allowed to sit in, and even different churches that they could attend. They were also not allowed to vote and didn’t have the same equal standard of education as the white people. Many white people in the southern states were racist against black people and didn’t feel as though they should have equal rights. Even though slavery had ended in 1863, many white people continued to discriminate against black people and treated them badly.
