The Doctor meets a young medical student, Martha Jones, as they wind up surrounded by a platoon of Judoon on the moon! Can they escape both their brutal methods, as well as a killer on the loose, in Smith and Jones? We follow this with 2008’s Day of the Clown from The Sarah Jane Adventures, featuring Series 12 cast Anjli Mohindra and Bradley Walsh. Just after losing Maria to the US, Sarah Jane, Luke and Clyde face the most terrifying creatures the Whoniverse has to offer – clowns. Fugitive of the Judoon Sunday 26th January, 7:10pm, Lecture Theatre, Mansfield College Oh look, more Judoon – you’d almost think it was planned. In any case, come watch it with us live on a bigger screen than your laptop I bet. WEEK Dalek Invasion of Earth Thursday 30th January, 8pm, Seminar Room, Corpus Christi College The Daleks are back! The breakout stars of Season 1, they return stronger than before, no longer stuck on Skaro. Now… well, the title says it all, 2 really, in The Dalek Invasion of Earth. Can the Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Susan survive this time? Will humanity? Or will the Daleks become the true Masters of Earth? Praxeus Sunday 2nd February, 7:10pm, Lecture Theatre, Mansfield College Come watch episode 6 of the new series with us live on a big screen! WEEK Vincent & the Doctor + A Town Called Mercy Thursday 6th February, 8pm, Seminar Room, Corpus Christi College Happy birthday! On his 10-year anniversary, we revisit one of the 11th Doctor’s most beloved episodes, as well as one of his more over-looked. 3 Vincent and the Doctor sees the Doctor and Amy meet the famous painter, and battle a terror from outer space, as well as troubles that stem from somewhere all-too-human. Following this is the Doctor, Amy and Rory’s visit to the Wild West, in A Town Called Mercy. Haunted by the mysterious Gunslinger, can the Doctor save their metaphorical souls without losing his own? Episode 7 Sunday 9th February, 7:10pm, Lecture Theatre, Mansfield College Come watch episode 7 of the new series with us live on a big screen! WEEK Time of the Doctor with special guest Mike Tucker Thursday 13th February, 8pm, Seminar Room, Corpus Christi College This week, we’re hosting BAFTA-winning special effects artist Mike Tucker, who has worked on Doctor Who since the 1980’s! By his choice, we’re watching The 4 Time of the Doctor, the swansong of the 11th Doctor as he fights to save both the town of Christmas and his own people, as a showcase of the effects work of the Model Unit. We’ll follow this with an interview, so if you’ve ever wanted to know/ask about how the Special Effects are put together, now’s the time to find out. Episode 8 Sunday 16th February, 7:10pm, Lecture Theatre, Mansfield College Come watch episode 8 of the new series with us live on a big screen! WEEK The Five Doctors + The Five-ish Doctors Tuesday 18th February, 8pm, Seminar Room, Corpus Christi College We try something new for Fifth Week, as we move to **Tuesday** to watch the 20th anniversary special The Five Doctors, as well as its ‘follow- 5 up’, 2013’s The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot. Witness as Doctors 1, 2, 3 and 5 struggle to escape Gallifrey’s Death Zone, filled with their most deadly enemies, as a conspiracy threatens to overthrow Time Lord society. Then, witness as actors Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy attempt to escape irrelevance and find a role in the 50th anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor. GEEK QUIZ!! Thursday 20th February, 8pm, TBC In the legendary Geek Quiz, members of Oxford's geekiest societies get together to battle it out for the crown of "team who won that term". If you can write a round not entirely related to Doctor Who, bring it along. Please ensure your round is visual – make a PowerPoint with each question displayed on a different slide. Our society usually divides up into a few different teams – come along and help us beat those pesky TrekSoc-ers! Episode 9 Sunday 23rd February, 7:10pm, Lecture Theatre, Mansfield College Come watch episode 9 of the new series with us live on a big screen (if you haven’t had enough of us after this packed week)! Vengeance on Varos & Committee Elections! WEEK Thursday 27th February, 8pm, Seminar Room, Corpus Christi College Sixth week means Sixth Doctor, as we watch Vengeance on Varos. (Many say it’s a classic!) When the TARDIS runs low on Zeiton-7, the Doctor and Peri are trapped on Varos, a world where the only entertainment is violence, 6 broadcast live on television. The 80’s were never subtle with satire. Can the Doctor bring down the ruling elite, as well as the capitalist Sil, before his own death is broadcast opposite space-Coronation Street? Stick around afterwards for elections, because we need someone to run WhoSoc for another year, and it could be your chance to put your mark on our 31-yearold-and-counting society. Episode 10 Sunday 1st March, 7:10pm, Lecture Theatre, Mansfield College Come watch episode 10 of the new series with us live on a big screen! WEEK Boomtown & Termly Meal Thursday 5th March, Time TBC, Restaurant TBC As is usual, Seventh Week is our termly meal, at one of Oxford’s many restaurants and food joints, this time followed by Boom Town. The Doctor, Rose, and newly arrived Captain Jack stop off in 7 Cardiff to visit Mickey, but their good time is ruined when they find out that the mayor is an old foe. As the Doctor takes them out to dinner, have they truly reformed? Or does a person’s past define them forever? th WEEK Randomiser: 4 Doctor 4-parters + Committee Meeting Thursday 12th March, 8pm, Seminar Room, Corpus Christi College WhoSoc wouldn’t be WhoSoc these days without a randomizer, and we’re returning to the well of stories we’d never otherwise watch, by picking a random 4th Doctor 4 parter (No guarantee of the 8 1980’s sadly). Join to watch Tom Baker do some distinctly Tom Baker-y things, perhaps accompanied by Liz Sladen, Louise Jameson, Mary Tamm or Lalla Ward, and stay for our committee meeting afterwards, where we decide what we’re watching next term! DOCTOR WHO SERIES 10 EPISODE 1 "A Star In Her Eye" By Steven Moffat SHOOTING SCRIPT 16/06/2016 (SHOOTING BLOCK 1) DW10: EP 1 "A Star In Her Eye" by Steven Moffat - SHOOTING SCRIPT - 16/06/16 1 INT. THE DOCTOR’S OFFICE - DAY 1 - 16.00 1 The quietest opening we’ve ever had. We’re in a reasonably untidy office. Dust and books. Obviously academic. A university lecturer’s office. We hold this stationary shot - there’s a pleasing symmetry. There’s a door on the left of the screen, and a slightly open one on the right - like the two doors on a weather clock. Through the slightly open door we can see another, smaller room. In between the doors, there’s a desk, facing across the screen. Two empty chairs. The one in front of the closed door, is a simple, wooden chair. Facing it across the desk is an elegant swivel chair. Distantly, a bell chiming. We hear the chatter of distant voices - young people, chatting and laughing. Under that, the drone of traffic. Ordinary and still, for as long as we dare. Then: Squeak! Squeak! Squeak! It’s like the squeaking wheel on a supermarket trolley - and it’s getting closer. Now the closed door opens, revealing: Nardole. Much as we last saw him in The Husbands Of River Song. He steps into the room (always a squeak on his left leg) revealing: In the doorway, Bill. Young, female, cheeky as hell. Nardole stands clear of the door, gestures towards the wooden chair.

Doctor Who “Smith and Jones” STOKER: I weep for future generations. Are you having trouble locating the heart, Miss Jones? MARTHA: Er, I don't know. Stomach cramps? STOKER: That is a symptom, not a diagnosis. And you rather failed basic techniques by not consulting first with the patient's chart. (Stoker gets an electric shock from the metal clip.) MARTHA: That happened to me this morning. MORGENSTERN: I had the same thing on the door handle. SWALES: And me, on the lift. STOKER: That's only to be expected. There's a thunderstorm moving in and lightning is a form of static electricity, as was first proven by. Anyone? DOCTOR: Benjamin Franklin. STOKER: Correct. DOCTOR: My mate, Ben. That was a day and a half. I got rope burns off that kite, and then I got soaked.. STOKER: Quite. DOCTOR: And then I got electrocuted. STOKER: Moving on. I think perhaps a visit from psychiatric. ======================================== MARTHA: I promise you, Mister Smith, we will find a way out. If we can travel to the moon, then we can travel back. There's got to be a way. DOCTOR: It's not Smith. That's not my real name. MARTHA: Who are you, then? DOCTOR: I'm the Doctor. MARTHA: Me too, if I can pass my exams. What is it then, Doctor Smith? DOCTOR: Just the Doctor. MARTHA: How do you mean, just the Doctor? DOCTOR: Just the Doctor. MARTHA: What, people call you the Doctor? DOCTOR: Yeah. MARTHA: Well, I'm not. As far as I'm concerned, you've got to earn that title.

  • How Health Workers Earn a Living in China 25
Gerald Bloom, et al • How Health Workers Earn a Living in China 25 Original Article How Health Workers Earn a Living in China Gerald Bloom 1, Leiya Han 2 , Xiang Li 2 1. Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, Brighton, BN1 9RE, UK 2. Department of Health Policy, Tongji Medical University, People’s Republic of China Abstract Health workers earned the same salary throughout China during the period of the command economy. Differ- ences in earnings have grown substantially since then. Some health facilities supplement basic government salaries with substantial bonuses financed out of earned revenues, whilst others cannot pay basic salaries in full. Some health workers supplement their income through informal channels. The government’s response depends on the kind of informal payment. It uses moral pressure and the threat of the loss of professional privileges to discourage acceptance of cash payments from patients. It treats those who accept kickbacks from drug suppliers or health facilities as criminals. The government faces very difficult challenges in facilitating the adaptation of the health system to a market economy. Its strategy has been to create a broad policy framework within which individuals and enterprises can develop individual adaptation strategies. It has enacted rules to regularise new relationships that emerge. The strategy of gradual institutional reform has enabled the health sector to adjust to major change. However, it has allowed people to profit from opportunistic behaviour and resulted in inefficiencies and problems with access. It could eventually change social attitudes about what constitutes ethical behaviour by health workers. The challenge is to create a regulatory framework that permits health workers to earn a reasonable income, whilst encouraging them to provide effective and affordable health services that meet the needs of the population.
