What have been the benefits of that closeness on the team? #12 Mike Barta Senior • Safety One thing the offense and defense talk about is family, and it’s something everyone has Ashburn, Va. bought into really well . We’re one big family, and that closeness and family atmosphere Briar Woods brings everyone together, and good things happen when teams are close .

Is the defense meeting its goals this season? One thing we wanted to hang our hats on this season was to go 1-0 every week . We definitely have goals but it starts with getting a “W” every week .

What’s your major and what are some of your long-range professional goals You came to W&M as a recruited walk-on. Did the program’s history of success outside of football? with recruited walk-ons impact your decision to come here? Kinesiology and history . There could be a few different paths . I’m interested in coaching, That definitely stood out and excited me . It was a challenge that I put on myself and but I also have a big interest in kinesiology and physical therapy . It’s been a ride since then, but it has been fun . I’m definitely the handyman around the house .

Talk about the camaraderie of this year’s senior class. Our senior class is fairly small and tight-knit . There are only about seven or eight fifth- year seniors, so that helps with the closeness we have . Being a tight group is something we’ve emphasized during the last year, making sure everyone from the fifth-years to the freshmen are all comfortable with each other . I think that was evident this sum- mer when (freshman) Shon Mitchell lived with me, (Andrew) Caskin, (Daniel) Kuz(jak), Jesse (Anderson) and Chris (Durant) .
