Mr R Jones request-358681- Our ref: FOI0660 2016-17JM [email protected] Date: 29 September 2016 Dear Mr Jones Freedom of Information Request Further to your request received on 14 September 2016, please see Central Bedfordshire Council’s response to your questions below: Please could you supply details of any discussions regarding the future of Cranfield Airport (owned by Cranfield University, which is subject to FOI), its current and future usage, including any data on predicted movements. The Council places the details of all planning applications and related information on the Central Bedfordshire website where they are open to view. With respect to existing approvals for the Air Park at Cranfield the reference numbers are listed below: MB/01/00367/OUT MB/05/0081/SE73 MB/08/00613/RM CB/10/02111/LDCE These can be accessed at: http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/plantech/dcwebpages/acolnetcgi.gov The University applied to develop the Air Park site (a 10.76 hectare site to the North West of the main runway) in 2001 and 2005. This was for the development of the Airpark to include hangarage, training facilities, airfield related business units and associated access and parking. Reserved matters were approved in June 2008 and the description of the development was as follows: “proposed Air Park development including maintenance, repair and overhaul hangar (HRO), general hangar, attenuated aircraft maintenance bay, business aviation centre, warehouse security hut, associated taxiway, carparking and landscaping.” Central Bedfordshire Council Please reply to: Telephone 0300 300 8301 Access to Information Team Email [email protected] Central Bedfordshire Council www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk Priory House, Monks Walk, Chicksands, Shefford, Bedfordshire SG17 5TQ The Council granted a Certificate of Lawful Use in 2010 which established that the planning permission of 2008 had been implemented. This means that the University could still build out the approved scheme now or anytime in the future as the planning permission is still valid. The Council entered into a Planning Performance Agreement with Cranfield University in 2015 on a new Masterplan for the campus and surrounds. Cranfield’s evolving Masterplan will be subject to a public consultation process in the coming months. The draft masterplan focuses on the wider campus redevelopments rather than specifically the Air Port. The Air Port is owned, as you state, by Cranfield University, the Council does not hold details further to those stated above. Requests for further information on the future use and predicted movements should be directed to Cranfield University (email [email protected]) https://www.cranfield.ac.uk/about/governance-and-policies/policies-and- regulations/freedom-of-information Please treat this as a formal response under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (please see below for our review procedures if required).
