Last man to break wr twice in same year was Australian Michael Klim, who did it twice in two days in December of 1999 in Canberra, when he swam 52.03 [12/10] and 51.81 two days later. (Note: first time record has been broken in Rome and/or Italy. (Note: Phelps’ second-consecutive gold. Ties him with former U.S. teammate Ian Crocker for most wins in this event [2]. Phelps also won @ Melbourne [2007] in a then pr 50.77. U.S. has eight of 13 golds overall. (Note: Phelps first man to leave a major international competition holding both butterfly world records since Russia’s Denis Pankratov following the European Championships in Vienna 14 years ago [August 1995]. Pankratov first broke the 200 world record of USA’s Melvin Sewart [1:55.69 to win gold @ the 1991 World Championships in Perth] with his 1:55.22 @ Canet in June of ’95. The Russian then won the gold and broke the global-standard in the 100 w/his 52.32 @ Vienna two months later.     Two rising stars unearthed on sizzling opening night in Brisbane Swimming Australia: April 9, 2017: Swimming has unearthed two new rising stars on the opening night of a sizzling Hancock Prospecting Australian Swimming Championships at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre tonight. The sport’s biggest names Cate and Bronte Campbell, Mack Horton, Cam McEvoy and Mitch Larkin all lived up to expectations and delivered with some of the fastest times in the world. Defending world champion Bronte Campbell powered over the top of sister Cate and Emma McKeon to win the 100m freestyle; Olympic champion Mack Horton finished too strong to take out the 400m; the world’s fastest swimmer Cam McEvoy looked super impressive to win the 50m freestyle and Larkin hung on grimly to win his fourth Australian 200m backstroke title. But the breakthrough performances of Queensland teenagers Ariarne Titmus (St Peters Western) and Shayna Jack (Commercial) will provide two fresh faces on the Dolphins team for this year’s FINA World Championships in Hungary. Titmus, just 16, clocked a 14 second personal best time to win the 800m freestyle and Jack – the latest prodigy out of the Simon Cusack sprint freestyle school, clocked two personal best times in one day to finish fourth in the 100m freestyle with a 53.40 – the sixth fastest time by an Australian Titmus, who moved to Brisbane from Tasmania with her family to further her swimming career two years ago, improved her time of 8:37.50 to clock 8:23.08 (59.83; 2:02.23; 4:08.95) – the fifth fastest time ever by an Australian – swimming past a who’s who of Olympians, Olympic champions and world champions, including Sheridan Burge-Lopez, Michelle Ford, Blair Evans, Tracey Wickham and Janelle Elford.

Denis, who is Agnès Massol-Lacombe retiring in the summer, has been FAST editor almost since the beginning, taking and Kenneth Johnson over from the third issue. His first issue of FAST was in 1984, when Airbus had only the A300 and A310 aircraft in service. Since then, the A320 and A330/A340 aircraft families have gone into service, with a resulting increase of articles covering their advanced technology. Denis has seen FAST through the expansion of the Airbus family and the ups and downs of our industry. He has unfailingly produced excellent, informative and well received articles, which is confirmed by the results of the survey enclosed in FAST 33. These results give very high scores for the level of content, readability, attractiveness and quality of FAST. Denis brought exceptional abilities, patience and humour to FAST and he will be sorely missed, but after 49 years in the industry, his retirement is well earned, so my colleagues and I here in Airbus would like to thank him for his exceptional work and wish him well in his retirement. I feel confident that you, the readers of his work over the past 20 years, will feel the same and therefore we will wish him well on your behalf. We are fortunate that Agnès Massol-Lacombe, who is the art director of FAST and has worked on it since the beginning, will carry on with us to provide continuity in the future with our new editor.
