Lightfoot has coached the Pilots to three NAIA National Championships, four NCCAA National Championships, 18 Crossroads League regular season and tournament titles, twelve NAIA and nine NCCAA National Championship Tournament appearances. Lightfoot, a Bethel graduate, ranks second among all active NAIA Division II men’s basketball coaches with 763 wins to just 280 defeats. Neal Young—Goshen College—4th Season Neal Young enters his fourth season guiding the Maple Leafs with a 39-54 career record. The Maple Leafs finished 19-13 last season. Prior to taking over at Goshen, Young served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Lewis University for two years. Prior to serving at Lewis, Young was the Associate Head Coach at Goshen under former coach Gary Chupp. Young played basketball at and graduated from Anderson University (IN). Jim Kessler—Grace College—40th Season Jim Kessler enters his 40th season with a record of 743-553 as head coach at Grace. Kessler has led Grace to 10 consecutive national tournaments, including six NAIA and four NCCAA. Grace has made nine appearances at the NAIA National Tournament during his tenure, including the 1992 squad, which finished 32-5 and as NAIA National Champions. Kessler represented Grace College in the summer of 2013 when he served as a court coach for USA Basketball’s World University Games’ Training Camp. Kessler played basketball at and graduated from Grace College. Ty Platt—Huntington University—9th Season Ty Platt enters his ninth season guiding the Foresters with an all-time record of 142- 108. Under Platt’s guidance the Foresters are 93-41 at home in Platt Arena and have set six new school records. Huntington has led the country in free throw shooting three different times under Platt, and recorded three twenty-plus win seasons in his first six seasons as head coach. Platt played basketball at and graduated from Taylor University. Greg Tonagel—Indiana Wesleyan University—12th Season Greg Tonagel enters his 12th season as head coach at IWU, having won two NAIA National Championships with a record of 301-83. Under Tonagel’s watch the Wildcats have been to nine NAIA National Tournaments. IWU has finished in the Elite 8 five times, Sweet 16 once and were NAIA National Champions in 2014 and 2016. The Wildcats have also won seven league championships and two league tournament championship under Tonagel’s guidance. Tonagel played basketball at and graduated from Valparaiso University. Carson Harris—Marian University—2nd Season Carson Harris enters his second season as head coach of the Knights, after leading MU to a 19-12 clip last season. Harris served the last five years as an assistant coach at the University of Evansville. The Purple Aces made two postseason appearances during Harris’s time at Evansville. Prior to Evansville, Harris served as an assistant at DePauw, Earlham and Manchester. He was a captain and three-year starter for Manchester from 1997 through 2001 and was part of the 1999 team that advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Jared Ronai—Mount Vernon Nazarene University—3rd Season Jared Ronai enters his third season as head coach of the Cougars and owns a career mark of 33-29 in that span. Prior to coming on board at MVNU, Ronai spent two seasons as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I UNC-Asheville and was an assistant coach for three seasons and associate head coach for one season at NCAA Division II Ashland University. Ronai played basketball at and graduated from Georgia Southwestern State University. Chad LaCross—University of Saint Francis—7th Season Chad LaCross enters his seventh season as head coach of the Cougars. LaCross has guided USF to a 150-60 record during his first six seasons. The Cougars have made five trips to the NAIA National Tournament including runner-up finishes in 2011 and 2016, in addition to Elite 8 runs in 2012 and 2015. LaCross has also led the Cougars to league championships in 2011 and 2016. LaCross spent seven season as an assistant coach and associate head coach at USF before taking over the reins. LaCross played basketball at and graduated from Tri-State University (now Trine University). Ryan Cottingham—Spring Arbor University—18th Season Ryan Cottingham enters his 18th season as head coach of the Cougars. Cottingham has led SAU to a 294-275 record during his 17 seasons. The Cougars have made three trips to the NAIA National Tournament under Cottingham. Prior to serving as the head coach of the Cougars, Cottingham was an assistant for one season at SAU and for three years at Alma College. Cottingham played basketball at and graduated from Spring Arbor University. Josh Andrews—Taylor University—4th Season Josh Andrews enters his fourth season as head coach of the Trojans. Andrews has led TU to a 38-53 record in his first three seasons. Prior to arriving at TU Andrews was the head coach at Middletown High School, where he compiled a 32-17 overall record along with a sectional and district title in 2012. Andrews also served as the head coach at Princeton High School for four seasons. Andrews compiled an 80-18 record and took the Vikings to the 2009 OHSAA State Title game.
