Samarthanam is thankful to GiveIndia for supporting us in this part of the campaign. SAMARTHANAM’S COVID TASK FORCE

Like all establishments Samarthanam too was shut during the first week of lockdown. Then the calls to key management people started to come in, mostly distress calls. The lockdown was tough for all but tougher for the disabled sector and there was no way we could ignore the calls. Soon enough, Samarathanam’s own Covid Warriors sprung into action, led by Mahantesh GK, the Founder Managing Trustee. The team didn’t look at which zone - Red, Orange or Green - the calls came from, the need of the people in distress had to be met. Precautions were taken and the adventures began. They continue to the day.

Prashant is a part of Samarthanam’s Task Force who, inspite of his disability did not hesitate to join the team in the field and distribute relief kits across the city.

“I work at Samarthanam Trust and I am glad to be a part of the COVID operation team. I might not be able to walk but that doesn’t stop me from helping other people. I take support of a stick and move around to help people who are needy by supplying dryration kits at their doorstep. I can understand the problems of people with disabilities in procuring ration and for them I go to their homes to deliver. As we give out the necessities we receive their blessings and appreciation which makes me happy. I moved along with the team and distributed kits at many regions and I am happy to be doing it.” BENEFICIARY TALK

“We need to survive but we don’t have any money,” says Nagaraju, a slum dweller who lost his daily wage job and lives with his pregnant wife and two children at Lingarajapuram. The situation has been very critical at Lingarajapuram where slum dwellers and migrant daily wage workers from Andhra & Telangana States live. They have no work in hand and no money to feed themselves and their children. “If not for Samarthanam’s ration kits it would have been impossible for us to survive. The ration received will help us feed our children for a month. We are thankful to God and to Samarthanam.”

My name is Manikyam and I received help from Samarthanam Trust. I am unable to go outside and buy groceries as every shop is closed because of the lockdown. In this situation I received dryration kits from Samarthanam which is being very helpful to me. Thanks to the Trust.

“Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled is identifying disabled people like me and helping us with dry ration kits. The help that is coming from Samarthanam is right in time as it is helping us run our houses. It is being very supportive specially for the disabled in this critical situation as we cannot move out as other people easily.”

“We are staying at Padarayanapura and as we all know that it is a containment zone with no help being received from anyone. We were very depressed as no one would dare to come to our rescue. In this critical situation we requested Samarthanam to support and they immediately helped with ration kits. The help that is re- ceived is unforgettable and we are greatly thankful to them. I am totally speechless. Many thanks to Samarthanam.”

Deepak Gabbura, Samarthanam employee, and his wife Basavva, are a pregnant couple who are speech and hearing impaired and in need of assistance owing to her later months of pregnancy. The couple have been escorted to their village Lakamapura in Dharwad district after seeking Police and other necessary permissions by Samarthanam’s team. BENEFICIARY TALK

The situation has been very critical as I have no work in hand and no money to feed my family. Samarthanam’s ration kits are helping us or it would have been impossible for us to survive. The ration received will help us run our kitchen for a month. We are thankful to Samarthanam.”

These are very difficult times with lots of uncertainty and everyone losing jobs. It has been very difficult to get together one month’s groceries and thankfully Samarthanam stepped in to provide us with the same. There is always the risk of contacting the virus and since ration is being given to people with disabilities like us, it is making survival possible for us. Thanks to the Trust.

Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled is identifying a lot of disabled people like me and helping us with dry ration kits. Samarthanam team is bringing in ration which is very essential during these times, specially for the disabled as we cannot move out as easily as other people.

Our Hospital received PPE Kits from Samarthanam which greatly helps us in keeping our staff safe while attending to our patients. We cannot step back from our responsibilities and these kits help us continue our services without setback. I appreciate the timely support offered by Samarthanam to Hospitals and doctors which is quite ideal. Thank you.

A very huge thanks to the Trust for bringing in all the healthcare needs and distributing among us (healthcare workers). They have been thoughtful in approaching us with health kits as we keep moving across the city and helping the COVID affected people. We need protective gear and sanitisers importantly. Thanks to them we have a good supply now.
