History Radclive Manor has an interesting and extensive history going back over 500 years. From the 15th century until 1965 Radclive Manor was owned by New College, Oxford. It is not conclusive when the house was originally built, but it is known to have existed in 1476 and to have been altered and added to in the 16th and then again in the 17th century. The house was bought by the current owners in 1987, since when they have undertaken an extensive repair and improvement programme, not only to the house, but also to a number of outbuildings. References to Radclive Manor appear in all the standard books of reference such as Browne Willis, Lipscomb, Sheahan, the VCH, the RCHM and Pevsner, as well as in contributions to volumes such as the Records of Buckinghamshire. The house is Grade II* Listed. Of note is a 1621 date stone, Elizabethan chimney stacks, particularly the 5 square shafts set diagonally, wooden mullion and transom windows with leaded panes, 16th century wooden screen with embellished arches on Doric columns, 16th and early 17th century panelling, and an early 17th century staircase with newels and ball finials, moulded handrail and elaborate pierced balustrade. Description • Stone construction under a pitch clay tile roof with Elizabethan chimney stacks. • Wealth of period features including open fireplaces (inglenook fireplace in drawing room, sitting room with niche and shepherd seat), window seat, shuttered sash windows, leaded lights, deep window boards, exposed timbers, flagstone floor, oak panelling, dentil cornicing, panelled oak internal doors, elaborate Jacobean oak staircase. • Many of the principal rooms offer high ceilings, tall windows, thereby providing light and a feeling of space. • Impressive dining hall with elegant stone flooring providing a stunning entrance for guests and, being the heart of the house, ideal for entertaining. • The drawing room has an impressive ceiling height, restored panelling and elegant fireplace. The sitting room is a light, more informal reception room with triple aspect, inglenook fireplace and bay window with seating. • Kitchen/breakfast room has extensive floor and eye level units, 4-oven oil fired Aga and offers scope for modernisation. • The cellar is ideal for wine storage having arched wine bins, brick floor, light and ventilation with reasonable head height. • The elegant Jacobean staircase is an extremely important feature of the house. Gentle oak flights rise to the top of the house allowing light to pour into the landings and staircase hall below. The craftsmanship in making such a feature is befitting the age and style of the house and reflects the wealth of the people behind the design and construction of the house. • Substantial attics with exposed timbers and floorboards offer scope for improvement/conversion to further accommodation subject to the relevant consents. RADCLIVE MANOR Approximate Gross Internal Floor Area House - 642 sq m (6,911 sq ft) Attic room - 91 sq m (980 sq ft) Total - 733 sq m (7,891 sq ft) Not to scale. For identification purposes only. Ground Floor Second Floor Cellar First Floor Outbuildings • A key element to Radclive Manor is the extensive range of outbuildings in a secure courtyard setting. These comprise both traditional and more modern outbuildings suitable for a range of uses. • The current owners have used the various out buildings for offices, domestic purposes, entertaining, weddings and local fund raising events; they have also generated an income stream from letting part of the premises to craft and light industrial users. The buildings now present a number of opportunities to generate additional income, particularly from letting small residential or holiday let units, but also from party venues, workshops, artist studios or the opportunity for working from home. For example several of the traditional outbuildings lend themselves to conversion to possibly three rental or holiday let units plus providing additional accommodation (e.g. an annexe to the main house), all subject to obtaining the relevant consents. Accordingly the buildings could potentially create a significant additional / secondary income. • Former stone threshing barn with concrete floor, pitch roof, light and power connected. • Various offices. • Stone dovecote. Stabling. Former cart sheds and general stores. • Steel framed two storey Dutch barn with vehicular access, power (3-phase) and light connected. Ideal for storage or extensive garaging and workshop. • Artist’s studio with loft above (partly converted) Scope here to create annexe accommodation to the main house. • Single garage adjoins the house with stores. Greenhouse. RADCLIVE MANOR Approximate Gross Internal Floor Area 1,511 sq m (16,265 sq ft) Not to scale. For identification purposes only. Gardens • The house sits within extensive gardens and grounds, predominantly laid to lawn with herbaceous borders and beds and ha-ha. Orchard. A wealth of trees along several boundaries provide protection and privacy. Hard tennis court. Paddock grazing. Further lawns sweep down to the mill race and stream. Here a simple bridge leads across to an area of woodland stocked with a variety of trees including mature oak trees. Frontage to the River Great Ouse. • Fruit cages and vegetable garden. • Extensive hard standing and parking. • In all about 6 acres. Shortly after the dual carriageway section and after the left turning to Tingewick and Buckingham golf course on the left, take the next left turn to Radclive. I shall focus on some of the creativity we have valued in Bucks SACRE this year both from our members and during our visits to schools. In addition, we receive wise counsel from our Education Officer at Bucks CC, Katherine Wells and our RE Adviser Bill Moore. At our meeting in October we learned that Suma Din our Muslim deputy had become a school governor and would no longer fulfil her role with SACRE. However, her legacy to us is her book published by the Institute of Education Press entitled ‘Muslim Mothers and their children’s schooling.’ See SACRED 7, for a review. (For this and all other references to SACRED see the website at the end of this section). In her contribution to SACRED 6 Suma wrote; From the Qur’an, I understand my role as being a ‘steward’ on this earth; one who will take care, take responsibility and hand on a legacy to those who come after them.

Aylesbury Vale North Locality Profile Prevention Matters Priorities The Community Links Officer (CLO) has identified a number of key Prevention Matters priorities for the locality that will form the focus of the work over the next few months. These priorities also help to determine the sort of services and projects where Prevention Matters grants can be targeted. The priorities have been identified using the data provided by the Community Practice Workers (CPW) in terms of successful referrals and unmet demand (gaps where there are no appropriate services available), consultation with district council officers, town and parish councils, other statutory and voluntary sector organisations and also through the in depth knowledge of the cohort and the locality that the CLO has gained. The CLO has also worked with the other CLOs across the county to identify some key countywide priorities which affect all localities. It has its own primary school and popular Public House, The Queens Head, which also serves food. Chackmore is situated approx one mile to the north of Buckingham & is approached using the avenue that links Buckingham with Stowe.
