Kairos 11 helps seniors bond with classmates Maria Arnone Editor-in-chief Tuesday, November 9, was the beginning of a memory-filled time for Kairos seniors. They boarded the bus to Loyola Lakes in Green for spiri- tual growth and bonding with God and their classmates. The week was devoted to “God’s Time,” which is what the word Kairos means. Seniors spent the four day retreat taking prayer hikes, spending time with each other, and enjoying freetime away from school. However, this retreat was not just a break from class; it was a chance to learn more about one’s self by getting away from the distractions of everyday life. Senior leader Matt Karipides stated, “This was a great group of people, and I learned so much about my classmates. We will be friends for a very long time. Every day was just beautiful.” The Theme of K-11 was “Your Stairway to Heaven” and the teacher chaperones were Mrs. Anne Bickett, Mr. Anthony Boarman, Ms. Beth Harmon, Mr. Robert Brownfield, and Mr. Ken McDonald. The student team leaders were seniors Erica Bennett, Joe Demboski, Matt Karipides, Jon Bashor, Jake Swords, Katya Lyuksyutova, Natalie Walter, Kelly Fulkerson, and Maddie Winer. Father Mike Ausperk and Father Yahner said Mass for the students. “My boy, Chef Sam, the resident chef, and I bonded over some brown- ies he made on one of the days, but aside from the brownies, I became much closer to some people I didn’t really know that well before. This experience will help me make the most of my senior year,” stated senior David Bowen of his Kairos experience. Kairos helped these classmates break down the barriers of insecurity to form genuine bonds and friendships with the other seniors. Everyone received Jerusalem Cross necklaces and orange t-shirts that had a quote by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. saying, “Faith is taking the first step, even when you can’t see the whole staircase.” 4 November 2010 Leprechaun Gold News Go Green for Thanksgiving Jackson Ewing staff reporter Not only is this wasteful, but these leftovers release methane.
