As “T he Word” Turns November 2008 IWA Volleyball Wins 3rd Place in State Incarnate Word Academy Varsity Volleyball Team competed in the Missouri Class 4 State Tournament in Kansas City, November 6th and 7th. The Red Knights competed against Glendale High School, Lee Summit West and St. Joseph’s Academy. The team ended their season with a record of 30 wins and 10 losses. “I am happy with the overall outcome of the season. The girls worked hard and represented Incarnate Word Academy well. They made everyone proud,” said Assistant Volleyball Coach Jamie Wright ’03. Congratulations Volleyball on another great season! Alumna Crowned Miss Missouri Alumna Stacey Smith was recently crowned Miss Missouri. As the reigning Miss Florissant USA, Stacey competed in the 2009 Miss Missouri USA Pageant on the weekend of October 31st. Stacey is a member of the Class of 2004. She has a Marketing degree from St. Louis University and is currently the Sales Events Director at Chaumette Vineyards and Winery. This proud Woman of the Word will be competing in the Miss USA Pageant on April 19, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Be sure to check future issue of the “As ‘The Word’ Turns” for more details! Congratulations Stacey and good luck! Students Send their Shoes Abroad The Incarnate Word Academy school community recently participated in a shoe drive for the children of Belize. The project was organized by the St. Louis Archdiocesan Mission Office. IWA collected over 90 pairs of gently used or new shoes. These shoes, along with the estimated 30,000 pounds of shoes collected throughout St. Louis, will be on the feet of appreciative children in Central America soon! Celebrate Thanksgiving with IWA Before the turkeys are carved and pies sliced, come share in IWA’s own Thanksgiving tradition! Members of the Class of 2003- 2008 are invited to attend the annual Young Alumnae Mass and Brunch on Wednesday, November 26, 2008. The brunch begins at 10:00 am in the cafeteria. Mass will be celebrated with the IWA school community in the Theater at 11:00 am. To RSVP for the event, click here. Alumnae Support the Red Knights On October 8, 2008, IWA welcomed several Woman of the Word to the Alumnae Volleyball Night and Reception. Alumnae were invited to cheer on the Freshman, Junior Varsity and Varsity teams as they battled Ursuline Acade- my. After the games, the alumnae enjoyed a reception in Heritage Hall.
