Game notes – Western Kentucky at Marshall – October 26, 2019 The game captains for Marshall were sophomore running back Brenden Knox and senior lineman Levi Brown on offense, and senior linebacker Omari Cobb a senior lineman Channing Hames on defense. With Saturday’s win, Marshall leads the all-time series with Western Kentucky, 7-4. The Thundering Herd has won three consecutive games in the series. Marshall senior kicker Justin Rohrwasser kicked a 53-yard field goal as time expired, the longest made field goal of his career. Rohrwasser had set a career long with a 46-yard field goal earlier in the game. Rohrwasser’s 53-yard field goal is tied for the fourth-longest made kick in school history, and tied for the third-longest made kick in Joan C. Edwards Stadium history. The 53-yard field goal is the longest in 217 games at Marshall, since Curtis Head made a kick of the same distance against Buffalo in 2002. Rohrwasser tied a school record with four made field goals, equaling the four made by David Merrick (East Tennessee State, 1993), Tim Openlander (The Citadel, 1995), Billy Malashevich (Miami, 1999) and Justin Haig (Louisiana Tech, 2014). Rohrwasser scored 14 points, tied for the third-most in school history (four others). Rohrwasser is a perfect 11-for-11 on field goals this season, and has made 12 consecutive field goals dating back to last season. The first quarter by Marshall defensive back Kereon Merrell is the first of his career. Merrell later added his first fumble recovery of the season (second of his career). Merrell’s interception is the first by the Marshall defense in the first half this season. Marshall sophomore running back Sheldon Evans had a 21-yard run in the first quarter, the first time this season the WKU defense has allowed a run longer than 20 yards. The 4-yard run by Marshall sophomore Isaiah Green is the second rushing touchdown for him this season and third of his career. Marshall senior tight end Armani Levias had a 25-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter, his third touchdown reception this season and sixth of his career. This is the second consecutive game he has scored a touchdown. A 42-yard run by Willie Johnson in the second quarter is the longest rush allowed by the WKU defense this season and the longest run of Johnson’s career. Marshall sophomore safety Naquan Renalds intercepted a pass at the end of the first half, his first career interception. Senior linebacker Tyler Brown combined on a sack with fellow Marshall senior Omari Cobb, giving Brown a sack in three consecutive games. Marshall senior defensive end Marquis Couch set a single-game career-high with three sacks. Senior tight end Armani Levias caught a career-high 10 passes for Marshall. Marshall freshman receiver Broc Thompson tied a career-high with 91 receiving yards.
