Lost in the 50'S 2013 Flyer MAY 16-17-18-19, 2013 In the Beginning... SANDPOINT-IDAHO Lost in the 50’s is your weekend of Cars - Music and just havin’ fun! This year we’re going to give you the best of both worlds of the 50’s and 60’s Music. Friday Evening will be America’s answer to the British Invasion...with the feel good of the late 50’s and early 60’s beats that anyone could dance to and understand the words!!! The Lovin’ Spoonful with hits like “Do You Believe in Magic”…. “You Didn’t Have to be so Nice” hit the charts in 1965 and continued with monster hits like “Daydream”… “Summer in the City”… “Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind”… “Nashville Cats” “Younger Girl”…. One of the few groups who penned their own words and played their own music on the records! This is going be a Fantastic Friday night of Rock N’ Roll!!!!! Their career didn’t last much past 1970 but with all their success were Inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. They started reunion dates in 1991 after a settlement with their record Company! Don’t Miss this one! SONNY TURNER Formerly the Lead Singer of the “PLATTERS ” Never to veer off from our roots brings us to Saturday Night… Sonny Turner and his group will bring you back to the early years of The Platters ….the last original of this fabulous group is going to take you to the dance floor with major hits like “ Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” “Only You” … “The Great Pretender”… “Twilight Time” … “It’s All in the Game” … “Harbor Lights” …. This night promises to deliver a great Blast from the Past! And then to add to your fun we also would like to introduce another new artist to Sandpoint… Ronnie Dove the Southern gentleman who was a country crossover with several hits but the one you may remember would be “Right or Wrong”. Saturday line up with our favorite Florida/Idaho Band Rocky and the Rollers will prove to be a show stopper for sure….A weekend of new and fun Faces and the music should go over the top!!!!     The Platters Friday July 15, 2016 Featuring Sonny Turner With a smooth sophisticated sound, the Platters were one of the most successful vocal groups of the early rock and roll era. Their distinctive sound was a bridge between the pre-rock Tin Pan Alley tradition and the burgeoning new genre. While performing in a local club in Cleveland, as lead singer of the Metrotones, Sonny Turner was approached by local DJ, Bill Crane, and asked if he would be interested in auditioning for The Platters. Turner was chosen out of 100 singers - at the young age of 19, to replace Tony Williams as lead singer of The Platters in late 1959 and, has entertained audiences all over the world with emotional renditions of the group’s best known songs. Songs such as Only You, The Great Pretender. Twilight Time, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and With This Ring to name a few. The group has had 40 charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including four No. 1 hits. The Platters were one of the first African American groups to be accepted as a major chart group and were the most successful vocal group in the world, at that time. One of the first such groups regularly to ascend the pop charts and enjoy massive popularity, the Platters helped launch doo wop music and influenced generations of vocal groups with their harmonies and arrangements. Ils enregistrent quatre chansons pour l'étiquette Federal avant de rencontrer le gérant Buck Ram qui oriente leur carrière. Les premiers disques qu'ils publient ne rencontrent que peu d'écho même avec l'ajout de la chanteuse Zola Taylor. Une première version d' « Only You » s'avère même un lamentable échec. Biographical Note by The HistoryMakers® R&B singer Charles Arnold “Sonny” Turner was born on September 24, 1939 in Fairmount, West Virginia. Turner’s mother, Pearl, was a gospel singer and his father Carl, was a boxer. In 1949, Turner moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he attended Case Woodland Elementary School and graduated from East Technical High School. Turner began his entertainment career in the mid-1950s by performing with a local R&B group named the Metrotones, which included Andy Forester, James Fryerson, Leonard Veal, and Lavinia Eaton. The group performed at high school assemblies and local amateur vocal contests. They also opened up for The Five assemblies and local amateur vocal contests. They also opened up for The Five Keys, The Moonglows, The Flamingos, and Buddy Johnson. The Metrotones broke up when Andy Forester and James Fryerson were drafted into the United States Army. Turner then performed as a solo artist and master of ceremonies inside of local lounges and bars.
