Australian Open 2020: Novak Djokovic and Sofia Kenin win singles titles Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open 2020 title for record 8th time while Sofia Kenin won the major for the first time. Novak Djokovic from Serbia beat Austrian Dominic Thiem in a thrilling 5-set match 6- 4 4-6 2-6 6-3 6-4 to win the 2020 Australian Open men’s singles title at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. By doing so, he won his 8th Australian Open title and his 17th Gram Slam. He has now inched closer to the only two men who have more Grand Slam titles under their belt – Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who have won 20 and 19 singles titles Djokovic also set a unique record after the win – he became the first man in the Open Era to win a grand slam title in three decades. Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open title for record 8th time which is the most number of times by any player in the world. He had earlier won this title in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2019. He has won this title three times in a row from 2011 to 2013 and it is a record in terms of Open Era. Hemmanationen är regerande världsmästare efter att ha finalbesegrat Qatar med 25-22 i förra VM 2015. Bronset i det mästerskapet, som hölls i just Qatar, gick till Polen som besegrade Spanien med 29-28, efter övertid, i matchen om tredje pris. Frankrike passerade i och med det senaste mästerskapet Sverige i toppen av maratontabellen och är ensamma om att ha vunnit VM fem gånger, Sverige och Rumänien har fyra VM-titlar vardera. Senast Sverige tog medalj i VM var 2001 då det blev silver efter finalförlust mot fransmännen. Nu är det förhoppningsvis dags att öka på medaljskörden igen (Sverige har fortfarande flest VM-medaljer med 11, Frankrike är tvåa med 9 och Rumänien trea med 6). De fyra bästa lagen i varje grupp går vidare till cupspelet som inleds med åttondelsfinalerna som spelas 21-22 januari. Kvartsfinalerna avgörs 24 januari, semifinalerna 26-27 januari, bronsmatchen 28 januari och finalen 29 januari. VM spelas på åtta orter utspridda över stora delar av Frankrike. Wednesday 26 October 2016 Australian Open and WOWOW ace landmark broadcasting deal in Japan Tennis Australia and Japanese broadcaster WOWOW announced today a significant extension and expansion of their long-term broadcast relationship to 2021. Commencing January 2017, the new deal is Tennis Australia’s largest broadcast agreement in Japan.
