Founded in Chester Connecticut, we’ve grown our publishing family to include market-leading imprints such as Falcon, Lyons, Two Dot, Down East Books, Gooseberry Patch, Lone Star Books, Muddy Boots, and most recently, Stackpole. We’re also celebrating 50 years of publishing with Down East Books, 25 years with Gooseberry Patch, and 90 years with Stackpole. Our continuing passion is publishing books that inspire our readers while sharing insights enthusiasts need to enjoy their pursuits across a broad array of interests. Our readers include people from all walks of life including crafters, climbers, kayakers, fly fishing fans, naturalists, hikers, military history buffs, home cooks and bakers, trail runners, arm chair travelers, American history fans and explorers of all ages. This spring, we’re especially excited about a diverse list of books ranging from a new perspective on backyard living to getting outdoors with your kids and discovering the stories of American life from almost perfect games in MLB to revealing an untold story of race and redemption in the post-WWII South. Covering over 217 titles, Globe Pequot’s new season shares a tapestry of author voices from the first blush of Spring all the way through to the heart of summer. Here’s a quick tour of some of my favorite spring titles. Welcome to the Farm is a warm, witty book, written by Shaye Elliott, a new voice in the community of backyard farmers. Appealing to the farm-to-table fans and the casual gardener, Shaye offers a personal, visually inspiring guide to enriching every day life with the simple pleasures of raising your own food. (See page 3) The Orvis Fly Fishing Guide is a complete, fresh-faced update to America’s best-selling guide to fly fishing. Authored by the leading voice of the sport, Tom Rosenbauer, this Guide is a tour de force for fly fishing aficionados from starting novices to seasoned casters. Packed with over 400 photographs, step-by-step instructions and practical advice, Tom takes you through the paces of learning a sport that is an art form enjoyed, but never entirely mastered. (See page 9) Families on Foot, by Jennifer Fahr-Davis and in partnership with the American Hiking Society, delivers trail-tested advice for getting families outdoors. From backyard journeys to more adventuresome hikes, Jennifer shares how to make these experiences fun for every kid, from age two and beyond. (See page 10) This Phenomenal Life is a visually stunning, artful tour of our world, our lives and the science that weaves us together. This story is told in a wonderful, inspiring message that helps us to look at the world in a whole new way. Turning every page causes a pause, a thought and a sense of how special everyday life truly is. (See page 6) Urban Cowgirl is a sassy, sophisticated cookbook from a new talent, Sarah Penrod from Dallas, Texas. Her new book shares the life of a country girl who has made great Southern (Texan) food the center of life with family and friends. Sarah is recreating classic Texas cuisine with an elevated twist in a style she calls, the “New Modern Texan” and it’s destined to make her a welcomed cook in every kitchen, coast-to-coast. (See page 8) As always, thanks for being such an important part of Globe Pequot’s success over the last seventy years! We look forward to continuing to tell our story through the voices of our authors, our bookselling partners and our very special readers. From the vast galaxies above to the miniature microbes within, humans are organically connected to the complex cycles and mysterious processes of our universe. Every single atom of our body is made of remnants of stars and massive explosions in the galaxies, and we share the same biochemical basis of life with all living beings on earth, from a single-celled amoeba to a giant blue whale. • A's News Clips, Thursday, March 3, 2011 A's Outfielder Coco Crisp
A’s News Clips, Thursday, March 3, 2011 A's outfielder Coco Crisp arrested on suspicion of DUI By Joe Stiglich Oakland Tribune A's center fielder Coco Crisp was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol early Wednesday morning, according to an A's news release. Crisp was detained and taken to City of Scottsdale Jail before being released Wednesday morning. He showed up to Phoenix Municipal Stadium on time to join the team for pre-game drills and was in uniform -- but not in the lineup -- for a game against the Cleveland Indians. Crisp declined to comment when asked about the situation, saying he would address the media "in due time." "The A's are aware of the situation and take such matters seriously," the A's statement read. "The team and Coco will have no further comment until further details are available." Crisp, 31, is in his second season with the A's and is slated to play center field and be the leadoff hitter. Ironically, the A's held a security meeting with Major League Baseball officials before taking the field Wednesday. A message that is stressed in the annual meeting is having awareness of the off-field dangers that exist for professional athletes. Crisp signed with the A's as a free agent in December 2009. He hit .279 with eight homers and 38 RBIs last season but played in just 75 games because of a fractured pinkie and strained rib cage muscle. Crisp posts frequently on his Twitter account and often makes reference to his nighttime socializing.

A flagship project of the New York Philharmonic, the NY PHIL BIENNIAL is a wide-ranging exploration of today’s music that brings together an international roster of composers, performers, and curatorial voices for concerts presented both on the Lincoln Center campus and with partners in venues throughout the city. The second NY PHIL BIENNIAL, taking place May 23–June 11, 2016, features diverse programs — ranging from solo works and a chamber opera to large scale symphonies — by more than 100 composers, more than half of whom are American; presents some of the country’s top music schools and youth choruses; and expands to more New York City neighborhoods. A range of events and activities has been created to engender an ongoing dialogue among artists, composers, and audience members. Partners in the 2016 NY PHIL BIENNIAL include National Sawdust; 92nd Street Y; Aspen Music Festival and School; Interlochen Center for the Arts; League of Composers/ISCM; Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts; LUCERNE FESTIVAL; MetLiveArts; New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival; Whitney Museum of American Art; WQXR’s Q2 Music; and Yale School of Music. Major support for the NY PHIL BIENNIAL is provided by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, The Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation, and The Francis Goelet Fund. Additional funding is provided by the Howard Gilman Foundation and Honey M. Kurtz.
