Harry Potter Year 7: The Battle of Hogwarts Wrapup Doc

Groups

Seamus and the Dragons The three band members from the previous game, teaming up to entertain the school and restore the Luck of the Irish by breaking an ancient English curse, with the side effect of giving them boosts for the battle.

House Beaverdash The House of engineers, with a variety of creative alpha abilities they could learn for the SIK game. Un- fortunately for them (and everyone else), the creation of their house in the previous game did in fact reach backwards in Hogwarts’s internal sense of time, but did not rewrite history so thoroughly as to change people’s memories or actions... which meant that the school wards expected the fifth house to be part of the defense, but that when Dumbledore last set up the full wards, he didn’t think to include them, causing catastrophic failure on the first day and forcing Beaverdash to fix the problem in a hurry. The retroactive creation of Beaverdash was also the reason that there was an extra Horcrux floating around: Voldemort had gotten a bulk discount on his Horcrux ritual by committing to one-per-house, not realizing that that was actually a variable, not a constant. . .

Continentals Three students working for (or trying to bribe their way into the good graces of) the French government and Beauxbatons, by retrieving artifacts within Hogwarts that had been stolen by the English previously, and anything else they could get their hands on. Succeeded spectacularly. Also helping some Durmstrang students raid the Hogwarts library.

Dumbledore’s Army Focused primarily on defending the school by clearing the way for the Order of the Phoenix’s fighters to join them within Hogwarts. Opened the wards to let the Order in; sent Augusta Longbottom medicine to keep her healthy and fighting; recruited Percy Weasley to the Order’s side with photographs.

Human Protection League Known to the GMs as Elfwatch. Aiming to perform an old Slytherin ritual to encourage enemies to fight each other (with an optional add-on establishing a third faction that both sides would consider diplomatic and trustworthy) on the house-elves and goblins. Instead, used it to encourage enmity between Death Eaters and trolls, and Lord Nott and a variety of non-humans, while setting up current Hogwarts students and faculty as trusted intermediaries.

Full Moon Rising Werewolves and the old Trelawney Fan Club joining forces to take out Fenrir Greyback, reduce the damage (and further wolfings) from his werewolf army, and keep the PC werewolves fighting effectively. Greyback died dramati- cally in a duel with Hannah Abbott, and no (more) PCs were wolfed.

Gobstones Club Pranking the school to lighten up the mood, setting up Portable Swamps as part of the defense effort, and breaking into Filch’s office to modify student records.

Servants and Friends of Grindelwald Collecting evidence about Voldemort, the Ministry, and other useful topics to send to Grindelwald. Had three thresholds; after the first one, Grindelwald would win his battle at the Ministry rapidly enough to send golem reinforcements if the PCs were losing the SIK game, while the second two allowed Grindelwald to fully conquer England with various amounts of difficulty. Half of the members didn’t actually want the second win condition; they ended up meeting the first.

House Gryffindor Blocking entrances to the castle, patrolling the halls, and learning a series of brave house alpha abilities, including berserker and dragon-slaying; had the standard house ward plot.

Heroes of Hogwarts Learning a series of heroic alpha abilities, one for each House, to help them in battle; duelling to earn extra alpha.

1 Not Transferable Harry Potter Year 7: The Battle of Hogwarts / April 27-29 2012 Rules and Scenario

House Hufflepuff Trying to restore the broken morale of Hufflepuff, and Hogwarts in general. Learning a series of cooperative House alpha abilities; had the standard House ward plot.

Immortality Club AKA the Baby Dark Lords. Trying to consume Voldemort’s soul for power and knowledge, since he’d helpfully broken it into bite-sized pieces; competing with each other for the horcruxes and Voldemort himself. Also setting up golem stations for the battle.

Laundry Assistants A group of radical and New Wizard sympathizers, who were helping the Laundry (Magic-aware Muggle blackops) take advantage of pre-battle chaos to break in to Hogwarts and steal teachers for training purposes.

Ministry Supporters Performed a ritual for the that brought the New Wizards under the Ministry’s control. Also scouting the Hogwarts wards, spying on suspected rebels, and helping .

Building the Moon School Restocking and expanding their spaceship for a return voyage to the Moon! Also collecting materials and recruits to help found the Moon School (now officially named Grimaldi).

Neutralizers Students with loyalties to people on both sides of the battle, or who hate to see anyone killed, working on battle- usable portkeys and stun weaponry to take opponents out of the battle non-lethally. Unfortunately, the stun weaponry came in with the Laundry, and was thus extremely hard to acquire.

Supporters of the New Wizards Sending educational resources from Hogwarts to the many new wizards created by genetic magic last winter.

Medical Enthusiasts Spreading healing magic for use in the battle, and removing an ancient Ministry enchantment that prevents unauthorized wizards from performing anything by the most basic (and useless) healing charms.

Allies and Friends of the House Elf Revolution Helping the former house elves of Britain free their compatriots in the rest of by sneaking them into Hogwarts and helping with their big ritual.

Prom Committee Dedicated to running the best-ever Wizard Prom!

House Ravenclaw Recruiting the library monsters to aid in the fight, setting up statue stations around the school, learning intelligent House alpha abilities, and helping Blaise remove Mandy’s curse; had the standard House ward plot.

Safekeepers Sending valuable bits of Hogwarts art and history out of the castle to make sure it didn’t get stolen or broken during the battle. (Most of it will be returned postgame. . . )

House Slytherin Setting up traps around the school to damage enemies, learning clever House alpha abilities, and negotiating with enemies as needed; had the standard House ward plot.

S.P.U.T.U.M. Buy off all of the non-human factions, to keep them from joining in a big non-human war against wizardkind. Succeeded with everyone except the .

Former Students of St. Brutus Get their revenge on Dolores Umbridge for the destruction of their previous school, including confronting her with direct evidence of her wrongdoing. (Although confrontation was thwarted by her death, the scandalous details will be published in next week’s Quibbler.) Also find the Giant Slayer and use it to defend Hogwarts. They also had a memory packet for the giant-summoning beacon Umbridge brought to Hogwarts, and which was sent to Beauxbatons.

Wandmakers Remove a tracking spell the Death Eaters had placed on Phoebe, discover the magical properties of new Moon materials in wands, teach Astoria the final steps in wandmaking so the knowledge won’t be lost, and make as many wands as possible.

Characters

Gryffindor

Members - , Gryffindor (Daniel Grazian): The flaming-good-guy from the books, coming into his own and learning to lead the DA and the Heroes. Also combat training with Millicent: depending on how her training made him feel, he could travel down the “dark” or “light” paths and learn corresponding abilities. Restored his grandmother to full health by sending her healing potion, but lost his parents to a poisioned Pygmy Puff sent to St. Mungos by Molly, an undercover . Earned Gryffindor’s sword with his bravery in combat, and killed Nagini. - , Gryffindor (Miriam Gershenson): The spunky heroine from the books, miserable because all her luck had been sent to Harry and co. through Gryffindor’s luck transmitter. Working to help Neville lead the DA, help the new Wizards adjust, and in particular wanted to persuade Percy back to the good guys. Had a bit of a shock when Harry showed up mid-game, and helped him search for the Horcruxes; used the Sword of Gryffindor to fight Nagini and take her down. - Samuel Clarenlocke, Gryffindor (Ben Sena): The “Rule Through Loyalty” baby Dark Lord. The voices in his head were louder than ever, since the Ancient Dark Lord who’s been possessing him feels it’s time to move and seize power. Also a member of Seamus and the Dragons. - Jack Hagerthorpe, Gryffindor (Nathan “Fluffy” Arce): The bastard son of Gilderoy Lockhart who is finally going to get recognition, dammit! Sought fame with the Heroes and the Band, and also wanted to bring that slimy bitch Umbridge to justice with St. Brutus. Probably has an illustrious music career ahead, thanks to the Band completing Luck of the Irish. - Seamus Finnegan, Gryffindor (Gaurav Singh): As much as it bothered him to work with the English Ministry, was trying to keep new wizards from adding their loyalties the (English) . Managed to reverse some of Ireland’s recent ills by pulling off the “Luck of the Irish” ritual, despite a missing bandmate. - Colin Creevey, Gryffindor (Edward Yang): The bouncy, irrepressibly and haplessly enthusiastic Gryffindor who wanted to make everyone feel special before the battle by taking an official yearbook photo of everyone at Prom. Also lending his froshy zeal to the DA and helping the new wizards. - Romilda Vane, Gryffindor (Kate O’Connor): The creepy stalker whom Harry should have never turned down. Playing both the DA and the Death Eaters, since either path would lead to getting close to Harry. Ended up sending a lot of valuable items off to Voldemort. - Katie Bell, Gryffindor (Jen Glover): An alum returning to Hogwarts as Samuel’s date for the Prom; managed to remove the Ministry ban on medical magic and impart a lot of her healer’s training to student before the battle began. Killed early in the SIK game. - Wendell Rosier, Gryffindor (Alex Gurany): The blacksheep of the Rosier clan, a bunch of backwards Death Eaters, he was sorted into (GASP!) Gryffindor. Wanted to prove he was different by working with the DA, but also had portkeys handy to save his family should they weasel their way into the thick of battle. Part of the team that destroyed Nagini with the Sword of Gryffindor, destroying the last Horcrux.

Hufflepuff

Members - Cecil Brubblingforth XVIII, Hufflepuff (JB Parkes): Continuing all the “good” he did during the 10-day: helped the House Elves free the rest of their people and sent the new wizards lots of educational material. In true Cecil fashion, he causually changed the course of wizarding history by letting his brother’s squad from the Laundry into Hogwarts, where they captured several teachers. - Angelina Norman, Hufflepuff (Stephanie Cheng): Still in disguise as Angelina, the Muggleborn Justin Finch-Fletchley knew

3 Not Transferable Harry Potter Year 7: The Battle of Hogwarts / April 27-29 2012 Rules and Scenario

that only by opposing the Ministry’s anti-Muggleborn regime could he ever have a hope for coming out of hiding. He was therefore helping the new wizards assimilate, as well as learning healing magic and how to use his werewolf form for battle. - Hannah Abbott, Hufflepuff (Stephanie Paige): The defacto alpha female (cough) of Hufflepuff, Hannah was a little bitter that Megan, Susan, and Ernie went off to caper around Europe without her. Working to restore Hufflepuff morale and bolstering Hogwarts’s battle defenses with with DA and Heroes. Led the charge when Voldemort showed up on school grounds, and took out Fenrir Greyback in an epic claw-to-claw duel. - Fannie Barrymorn, Hufflepuff (Fangfei Shen): Finally got justice for St. Brutus, since Dolores Umbridge did not survive her latest Hogwarts inspection. Also pulled awesome pranks, including spiking the Prom refreshments, and helped send supplies to the new wizards. Finally ended up with Tom, after a semester full of pranks. - Pierre Moreau, Hufflepuff (Matt “Halftime” Peairs): All the spying earnings he so dutifully sent to his father were foolishly gambled away, so Pierre once again found himself working for the French Ministry, shipping Hogwarts artifacts to Beaux- batons and helping Durmstrang representatives sneak off with stolen library books. Escaped his family woes (and the rest of this useless planet) by establishing Grimaldi on the Moon. - Edmund Cadwallader, Hufflepuff (Tom Boning): A radical who felt the time for revolution against the Ministry opressors was ripe: helped the Laundry into Hogwarts, smuggled supplies to the new wizards, and kept relations with magical beings peaceful with SPUTUM. - Wayne Hopkins, Hufflepuff (Carter Huffman): Still a strong beleiver in blood purity, looking to protect wizardkind from magical creatures (much to some of his fellow Hufflepuffs’ dismay) and keep the spotaneous outbreak of Mudbloods under Ministry rule. Trying to keep girlfriend Millicent sane amongst the battle prep. Tragically died at the hands of Voldemort alongside Ron and Hermione.

Ravenclaw

Members - Lisa Turpin, Ravenclaw (Xavid Pretzer): The Spirit of Hogwarts had a lot to take care of this time around. Wards needed to be reinforced and students needed teaching for the upcoming battle, so Lisa learned alongside them with the Premeds. The students heading off for the moon school also needed a guardian spirit: Lisa saw them off with a piece of Hogwarts’s soul and a brand-new Grimaldi: a History. - Anthony Goldstein, Ravenclaw (Jayson Lynch): Rolling in dough after looting the banks of the Muggle world, Anthony was one of the financers of Grimaldi. Still obsessed with secrets and preserving the mysteries of Hogwarts with the Safekeepers. Also managed to convince Charlotte to come out of the Forgotten Section of the library long enough to be his date to Prom. - Mandy Brocklehurst, Ravenclaw (Beth Baniszewski): Sport Death! Only Blaise can kill you. . . Suffering some awful luck as a victim of the Peverell family love curse, but determined to either break the curse or go out with a bang (because how embarrassing would it be for a daredevil to die by choking on a Bertie Botts Bean?). In addition to breaking the curse, produced quite a few quality wands and stockpiled them for battle. Won the Prom dancing contest with an impressive aerial display. - Nigel Angleton, Ravenclaw (Jesse Ashcraft-Johnson): Another financier of Grimaldi, Nigel found that spreading word of the Muggle threat with his huge pile of gold left him suprisingly. . . lonely. Came back to Hogwarts to help his fellow werewolves in battle, and perhaps to finally find someone to fall in love with him for reasons that had nothing to do with hair. Also had the courtesy to, at Lavender’s request, wear a hat to Prom this time around. - , Ravenclaw (Molly Kosiarek): The only ghost from the ten-day to remain at Hogwarts; you honestly think something as commonplace as death would make Luna change her tune? She was, however, very worried that her father might worry about her, so she convinced someone with solid fingers to help her write a very nice letter home. Being the sole ghost made her quite an invaluable shadowrun and battle scout; also helping the Moon School, the DA, and the house elves. - Terry Boot, Ravenclaw (Steven Valdez): The “Who Needs a Reason to Want Power?” baby Dark Lord; also helping/betraying

Grindelwald and assisting the premeds so he can learn more spells. Consumed two horcruxes, putting him not that far behind Lord Nott in power (and conveniently without a Bad Guy headband), and barely missed Voldemort himself after a thrilling Avada Kedavra duel between Terry and Theodore over Voldemort’s body in airspace. Used his golem-possessing abilities to posess Harry Potter’s dead body and “give Harry” to Voldemort, although he didn’t find an opportunity to backstab Voldy in the end. - Phoebe Shakestalk, Ravenclaw (Susan Born): Being Britain’s leading wandmaker, a Hogwarts student playing catch-up, and paranoid proved to be rather stressful for Phoebe, so she sent multiple valuable items off to Beauxbatons seeking asylum in France, then fled (possibly to France, possibly to the middle of nowhere) before the battle. Also lifted the tracking curse Molly had put on her at the behest of the Death Eaters. - Eloise Midgen, Ravenclaw (Stacey Terman): The magical historian (and possibly the only Hogwarts student besides Hermione to enjoy History of Magic class) and sociologist of game: she worked to appease the various creature delegations through SPUTUM and helped the new wizards so as to let this new chapter in wizarding history blossom properly. She also helped free the remaining brainwashed House-Elves.

Slytherin

Members - Millicent Bulstrode, Slytherin (Drew “Alcor” Hilliard): Training feverently for battle with Neville, yet trying to keep from going entirely Dark through the DA and boyfriend Wayne. Also introduced to the Grindelwald movement, though taking out Voldemort (and now, Lord Nott) took precedent. Millicent’s Fiendfyre ability became a useful Horcrux destruction tool, and was ultimately used to torch Voldemort’s lifeless, soulless body, along with (oops) the Elder Wand. Will probably have some Ministry investigations to answer for, since multiple Hogwarts students relayed by owl that she is the murderess of Dolores Umbridge. - Theodore Nott, Slytherin (Michael Behr): ALL HAIL LORD NOTT! The “Ivory Mad Scientist” of the baby Dark Lords; also helping/betraying Grindelwald, and working with the premeds so as to open up avenues for future (Dark) medical research. Won the tug-of-war over Voldemort’s body by a single death packet, ate Voldemort’s soul (Mmmmmmm...), and, after a little requisite taunting, left school grounds. His rise to power will be complicated by the results of the last-minute Human Protection League rituals, however, that turned several factions of magical creatures against his regime and gave Hogwarts students and faculty a major diplomatic edge when dealing with him. - Jarvis Haddington, Slytherin (Alex Arkhipov): Jarvis, the Scion of House Haddington and Honorable Slytherin, had his chance to shine with the Battle of Hogwarts. With Slytherin, put up lots of traps in preparation and finally saw justice delivered to that awful toad Umbridge for what she did to St. Brutus. Slytherin did indeed clear much of its reputation by performing admirably alongside the rest of the school in the battle, although that whole second-Slytherin-Dark-Lord-this- century thing may be a bit of a blemish. . . - Walter Greenstone, Slytherin (Andrew Chen): What does a half-dwarf do after getting his hands on a colossal pile of gold? Get vengeance on Umbridge, of course, keep relations sweet with other magical creatures, and help out the new wizards who, like Walter once was, have been violently thrust into the magical world. - Astoria Greengrass, Slytherin (Rickland Powell): By both word and action, Astoria truly showed that she is NOT “Daphne’s little sister.” Wanted to smash out of the mold that her sister had forged, and did so by reinforcing the Ministry’s hold on the new wizards, learning the dying (or at least, incredibly stressed) art of wandmaking, and helping Slytherin hold its own in battle against Daphne’s beloved Dark Lord. Also developed a crush on, or at least a blood purity infatuation with, Jarvis. - Celina Braithwaite, Slytherin (Dori Schendell): When her mother, a Death Eater, was betrayed and killed at the hands of Voldemort, Celina decided he was a dangerous Dark Lord for both his opponents and his followers. She swore her loyalty to Grindelwald, in hopes that his army would topple Voldemort’s, and worked with the Human Protection League and SPUTUM to try and win magical creatures to his side. The only 100-percent-loyal Grindelwald PC in game.

Beaverdash

Members - Tom Stebbins, Beaverdash (Bobby Fontanely): An illegal muggleborn, Tom was looking to make his mark on Hogwarts before something–whether his death in battle or the complete purge that would come with Voldemort’s victory–brought his school years to an end. Wanted to leave his sign-in around the secret locations of Hogwarts, be happy with his new girlfriend, Fannie, return to Hufflepuff, and perform memorably in battle. - Sarah Fawcett, Beaverdash (Wendy Cheang): Still quite in love with Tom, although he seems to have moved on with Fannie. Had the option to “go dark” and join the Death Eaters after the heartbreaking realization that her and Tom had not future together. Helped pull off the ritual to keep Muggleborn under Ministry control. - Lavender Brown, Beaverdash (Kim Beder): Convinced that the battle was no excuse not to have a wonderful, heartwarming, exciting senior year at Hogwarts. With Beatrice, organized the Prom, worked extensively at playing matchmaker and finding everyone a date, and came up with some hilarious senior superlatives. (“Most Hogwarts Spirit” went, unsurprisingly, to Lisa. Although Lavender could be a close second.) Aiming to help Grindelwald enough to allow him to cripple Voldemort, but not enough to actually take over; keeping Trelawney safe with Full Moon Rising; and saving everyone she could, because death is bad! - Beatrice Croddlehood, Beaverdash (Tessa Green): Completely disillusioned of her fairytale happily-ever-after mindset after Cecil broke her heart in the ten-day, Beatrice instead was out for revenge on Umbridge, using Grindelwald as a tool against Voldemort, and helping Lavender put the Prom together. - Blaise Zabini, Beaverdash (Mats Ahlgren): Starting game having made overly broad promises to the Moon Maiden’s father to get permission for a moon school and with his beloved cursed to die because of him, Blaise ended up breaking the curse (destroying Harry Potter’s Invisibility cloak in the process) and performing the True Love Ritual with Mandy. He also officially founded Grimaldi, helped Beaverdash put its wards into place, and took such good care of mn , a (#∝ that she became an official student of Hogwarts. - Parvati Patil, Beaverdash (Sukrit Ranjan): Embittered by how much of a joke the Ministry had become but confident that it could be rebuilt, Parvati turned into quite the political player. She wanted to infiltrate non-human groups to learn their secrets, get in with the Laundry to learn about muggle/wizard relations first-hand (and figure out just how much they knew while she was at it), and generally help those who stood up to Ministry oppression. Had the brilliant idea to run a last-minute ritual that turned several magical creature factions against the new Dark Lord Nott. - Padma Patil, Beaverdash (Alan Huang): An appreciator of art and aesthetics, Padma sought to keep out of the battle as much as possible, preserve as many of Hogwarts’ treasures as she could, and eventually escape to Beauxbatons, where she had arranged to become a staff memeber. She sent them a multitude of valuables, prioritizing books and paintings, and let the Durmstrang book-stealing delegation straight into the Restricted Section. - Tracey Davis, Beaverdash (Kevin A. Schendell): When his siblings were turned into werewolves and his entire family tortured, Tracey became obsessed with bringing down Voldemort and his followers. He was thusly working with the Ministry, in order to keep as many new wizards supressed and out of Voldemort’s ranks as possible; SPUTUM, to make sure no more creatures were conscripted to the Dark side; and Full Moon Rising to take out Greyback, who had ruined his family. - Molly Pickville, Beaverdash (Dalton Allan): Molly came to somewhat rue her previous semester’s success with magical creature breeding: the Death Eaters took notice, kidnapped her, and forced her train their army of creatures. Blackmailed into acting as a Death Eater minion in Hogwarts, sending them valuable objects, information, and a poision-laced Pygmy Puff which was sent to kill Neville’s parents in St. Mungo’s. Had also stolen some of Phoebe’s wandmaking supplies and placed a tracking spell on her pregame. To rebel against their commands, Molly trained her pet Pentawort to aid in the battle, and did what she could to save lives during the fight.

Other

Members - mn , a (#∝ (Moon Maiden), N/A (Victoria Vega): The Princess of the Moon, sent by her father to see if these magical Earth visitors were trustworthy and safe enough that their “Moon School” wouldn’t be a threat. Had all sorts of neat Moon Tech, such as a Scrooch Gun that fired knockouts, a Shrinkalizer, an Anti-Gravitator, and of course her pet Moon Rabbit. Also had a checklist of Earth activities to experience on her visit. Ended up officially becoming a Hogwarts Student with the blessing of Lisa and sent multiple positive reports home, heralding an era of peaceful moon/wizard collaboration.

NPC Factions

Team Grindelwald Megan Jones, Susan Bones, and Michael Corner were semi-PCs, here looking for recruits for Grindelwald’s army and helping their friends defend the school.

Merfolk Representative of the residents of the lake. Willing to trade items and defensive assistance to the school for (literal) shiny things and respect.

Goblins Looking for a variety of goblin-made items; preferred to negotiatie, but would threaten (trade) war if truly angered.

Centaurs Wanted Firenze returned for justice; could ally with students and reduce incoming enemies through forest, but did not end up reaching an agreement. (They killed Firenze anyway.)

Continentals Led by Zivia Karnowski, former student at Hogwarts; here to meet up with the Continentals PCs and steal books from the library (and anything else valuable that happened to come their way).

Giant Ants Just random wandering monsters, coming out of 32-basement; there to provide PCs with opposition to fight for certain mechanics, and as a source of items.

Harry and Company There to fight Voldemort by destroying Horcruxes. Came in with the Hufflepuff Cup. Harry was killed by Theodore; Ron and Hermione died in battle.

The Ministry Dolores Umbridge and her assistants. There to scout the school to pass information back to the Death Eaters, and to drop off Dolores’ Giant Summoning Beacon (Granite Statue of a Dancing Nymph), last used on St. Brutus’ School. Taken down by a large PC mob; the beacon ended up at Beauxbatons, sparing game from more giants in the SIK game.

Laundry Let in by the Laundry Assistants PCs, a group of Muggle blackops here to steal teachers to teach their high-end new wizard operatives. (The teachers will be returned in a few months.)
