THE FASSBINDER FOUNDATION Rainer Werner Fassbinder Foundation Newsletter 2005 - 2009 Liebe Freunde, Partner, Begleiter und Unterstützer der RWFF und der FF Inc., nachdem wir seit Dezember 2004 unsere dreisprachige Website mit aktuellen Berichten ins Netz gestellt haben, erschien uns ein Newsletter-Versand nicht mehr nötig. Aber ein regelmäßiger Überblick über unsere Aktivitäten fehlte manchem Fassbinder-Fan, so dass wir uns entschlossen haben, die Newsletter-Tradition wieder aufzunehmen. Trotzdem wollen wir Sie erneut ermuntern, unsere aktuellen Nachrichten weiterhin unter www.fassbinderfoundation.de zu verfolgen. Fassbinder-Filme: Reborn Die Schwerpunkte unserer Arbeit der Werkverbreitung waren in den vergangenen Jahren vor allem auf die Wiederaufführung von Fassbinder-Filmen im Kino sowie die Herstellung hochwertiger DVD-Ausgaben gelegt. Im Bereich des Repertoire-Abspiels sind die Strukturen in Deutschland allerdings eng gesteckt und erreichen zumeist nur bei Retrospektiven in Gedenkjahren eine größere Aufmerksamkeit. Dagegen hat sich die Präsenz des Filmwerkes auf dem deutschsprachigen DVD- Markt von Jahr zu Jahr verstärkt, insbesondere durch die Zusammenarbeit mit unserem DVD-Partner ARTHAUS/Kinowelt, mit dem wir seit 2001 kooperieren. Diese führte dazu, dass inzwischen achtundzwanzig Fassbinder-Titel unter dem ARTHAUS-Label verfügbar sind. Zusätzliche Sonderausgaben erneuerten die Präsenz wie zum Beispiel die BRD-Trilogie (2005) im Schuber mit den Klassikern Die Ehe der Maria Braun, Lola und Die Sehnsucht der Veronika Voss oder eine Sonderausgabe zum 25. RWF-Todestag (2007) mit zehn DVDs inklusive erweiterten Bonusmaterials. Die Sonderausgabe Deutscher Herbst (2008), in der RWF mit seinem Beitrag zu dem Episodenfilm Deutschland im Herbst von 1977 und Die Dritte Generation von 1978 neben Filmen von Volker Schlöndorff, Margarethe von Trotta, Alexander Kluge und Reinhard Hauff vertreten ist, intensivierte die Vermittlung des Fassbinder-Werkes. -

It’s so brilliant it won Best Picture — twice. 2. ‘Vertigo’ (1958) - Alfred Hitchcock Critics & crowds didn’t grasp upon release, but Hitchcock’s obsessions are on full display in this spiraling tragedy of lost love. A circling kiss in green light to Herrmann’s score? Cinematic bliss. 3. ‘Casablanca’ (1942) - Michael Curtiz “Play it, Sam.” “We’ll always have Paris.” “Here’s lookin’ at you, kid.” You won’t find better dialogue or themes as Rick represents a reluctant U.S. in WWII, sacrificing for Ilsa & Laszlo. 4. ‘Chinatown’ (1974) - Roman Polanski Robert Towne’s script is perfect, as Jack Nicholson loses nose investigating neo-noir scandal to intoxicating Jerry Goldsmith score, shocking Faye Dunaway twist, fatalistic John Huston finale. 5. ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ (1946) - Frank Capra Its reputation as a holiday classic doesn’t do it justice, for Frank Capra’s masterpiece of magical realism is a Dickensian tale of George Bailey’s suicide averted by Americana community bonds. -

One thing’s for sure: it’s going to be a hell of a reunion.” ~ Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger. “I think from the very beginning when we first started talking about doing this standalone film, there was no reason to do it unless we could really dig deep and be brave and go there,” says Scarlett Johansson, who reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow. “Having played this character for a decade, I wanted to make sure that it would feel artistically and creatively rewarding for me as well as the fans.” Producer Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios’ president and chief creative officer, says that Natasha Romanoff has sparked intrigue since her big-screen debut in 2010’s “Iron Man 2.” “She has such a rich backstory,” says Feige. “We’ve hinted at it throughout all the other films. But we approach it in a completely unexpected way. She’s been up to a lot all along—in between when we see her in the other movies—some of which will be surprising to people.” According to Feige, it was Johansson who reached out to director Cate Shortland to see if she’d consider helming the film. -
