The Institute is organizing an Essay at national level as part of its activities to mark the Thiruvalluvar Day in 2020:

The competition is open to the following three categories of participants: Category 1: Participants under 14 years old Category 2: Participants between 14 to 18 years old Category 3: Participants above 18 years old

The Mahatma Gandhi Institute is organising Essay at national level as part of its annual activities to mark Thiruvalluvar Day in January 2020. Interesting prizes in cash and books will be awarded to the winners. The competition is open to the following categories of participants: Category 1: Participants under 14 years old Category 2: Participants between 14 to 18 years old Category 3: Participants above18 years old

A. Essay Writing Competition

Essays must be written in Tamil or English on one of the following topics:

1. Category 1: Participants under 14 years old (Primary and Lower Secondary Students)

1. as depicted in Thirukkural 2. Thirukkural and gratitude.

No. of words: Around 250 words

2. Category 2: Participants between 14 to 18 years old (Upper Secondary Students) Topics: 1. Thirukkural and human values 2. Thirukkural and Non-.

No. of words: 1000 - 1500 words

3. Category 3: Participants above 18 years old (Teachers, University Students and Public)

Topics: 1 Thirukkural - A guide towards 2. Thirukkural and Science.

No. of words: 1500 - 2000 words. Guidelines for participation (Essay Writing)

a. Essays should be typewritten using Time Roman, font size 12, 1.5 line spacing and headings / titles should be in capital.

b. Only one entry per participant will be accepted.

c. Participants will have to use a pen name. Participant’s name, pen name, age and address have to be sent in a sealed envelope and should be submitted together with the essay.

d. Word count should be mentioned on the cover page.

e. All submissions must be original. No previously published essay will be accepted. Any form of plagiarism will be automatically rejected.

f. All essays received in the competition will become the property of MGI which reserves the right to publish the essays in any form - electronic or print.

g. The decision of the jury shall be final and shall not be subject to any appeal.

h. The MGI shall not take any responsibility in any matter arising out of any dispute as regards to authenticity of the essay.

i. Last date for submission will be Monday 06th January 2020. Envelopes should be clearly marked with ‘Thirukkural Essay Writing Competition’ and addressed to the Head, Department of Tamil Studies, Indian Studies Complex, MGI, Moka.

j. Interesting prizes will be offered to the winners.
