TOUCH OF RAMADAN CAMPAIGN 1439H / 2018 Striving with Confidence, Serving with Compassion: Rahmah Begins with Me (Semarak Langkah, Berjiwa Rahmah: Rahmah Bermula Daripada Saya)

THEME

The theme for the Touch of Ramadan (Sentuhan Ramadan) campaign for 1439H / 2018 will be Semarak Langkah, Berjiwa Rahmah: Rahmah Bermula Daripada Saya. The theme is in conjunction with the overarching theme of “Semarak Langkah, Berjiwa Rahmah” in celebration of the Islamic Religious Council of (Muis) 50th Anniversary this year. The additional tagline “Rahmah Bermula Daripada Saya” has been added again this year to signify the call to action for every Muslim individual to espouse the spirit of Rahmah or blessings and mercy.

2. This year’s campaign draw inspiration from Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in exemplifying the importance of seeking knowledge, promoting good values and building strong resilient families.

i. Strengthening Family Institution where individuals are emboldened to increase his/her knowledge and devotion in , including performing good conduct and deeds. The community will also be rallied to display positive behaviours to all in this blessed month.

ii. Caring for Society where the Muslim community in Singapore will be encouraged to show good neighbourliness and provide support for people in need. Muslims are also motivated to extend their love for their family, the young, as well as respect for the elderly.

iii. Concern for Environment where the community will be reminded of the responsibility to take care of all God’s creations including the environment. The campaign seeks to achieve a community of Muslims who practise healthy lifestyle and embody a changing mind set towards positive behavioural change.

NEW FEATURES

MY RAMADAN EXPERIENCE

3. In the spirit of Caring for the Society, Muslims and non-Muslims families will get to experience volunteerism in during Ramadan. Participants of My Ramadan Experience programme will be involved in bubur (porridge) distribution as well as take part in iftar (breaking of fast) preparation. Special iftar sessions are planned with adopted homes and families on zakat assistance. These sessions are done in collaboration with volunteers and grassroots organisations of the area. The Sentuhan Ramadan Committee will collaborate with Masjid Jamiyah Ar-Rabitah and its partners aimed to impart the spirit of “gotong royong” and living through the spirit of Blessings to all.

AL-QURAN SEMINAR

4. Al-Quran Seminar will feature Mufti Dr Mohamed Fatris Bakaram alongside two distinguished speakers. The seminar will discuss on the values and purpose of the Al-Quran, making it as part of a complete package to a Muslim’s way of life. The panellists will share various topics found in the Quran on family, living within one’s community and co-existing with the larger society. The seminar will also talk about the various understanding of certain verses in the Quran commonly used in addressing general family issues. Tips on delivering a generation who makes Quran as a way of life will also be shared during the seminar.

CONTINUED INITIATIVES

TABUNG RAHMAH

5. This year, the Tabung Rahmah programme will see the participation of Mosque aLIVE Weekend Centres and students from the six full-time madrasahs who will save a fraction from their daily pocket money and collections received during the month-long Hari Raya celebration (month of Syawal). They will then donate the monies saved to the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund after Hari Raya.

6. The committee aims to get 21,000 students to be involved in this project. Through this effort, students will be made aware and self-empowered to save as well as see the value in donating to those who are in need. This will go a long way in encouraging the spirit of sharing and giving to their fellow students in need.

HEALTHY LIVING

7. The committee is once again partnering the Health Promotion Board to conduct health talks during Ramadan. These talks will cover various health topics and will take place before Friday prayers over the course of four weeks. See Annex A for more information.

GREEN UMMAH

8. This year, mosques will once again be encouraged to use eco-friendly utensils and reduce the amount of water used at the mosques. The Eco-Wudhu programme is now enhanced through the sharing of educational videos and posters on how to take ablution efficiently as well as the usage of water-saving features at mosques.

SIGNATURE INITIATIVES

9. Muis is in collaboration with mosques and partners to roll out the following programmes to further enliven the spirit of Ramadan:

A. Radio, Television

 Ceria Ramadan and Sentuhan Ramadan, on Warna 94.2FM to share on messages for Zakat and Rahmah in Ramadan. Zakat messages will also be shared on Ria 89.7FM.

 A series of six episodes for a Ramadan drama titled Ikhlas which airs every Thursday on Suria, will start on 3 May 2018. The drama follows a newly minted Social Development Officer fresh into her job and highlights the work of helping Zakat recipients at a Social Development-led mosque.

B. Ramadan-related Forums, Talks and Classes

Touch of Ramadan 2018 will also continue to focus on encouraging Muslims to acquire and enhance their knowledge, through numerous Islamic Education programmes throughout Ramadan. These programmes are conducted by various providers including mosques, aLIVE, ADIL and other Islamic Education Centres and Providers. Members of the public can look up a comprehensive programme schedule at LearnIslam.sg, a repository of Islamic knowledge and guidance by accredited asatizah.

LearnIslam.sg will also provide updated Ramadan Frequently Asked Questions, new nutritious recipes for sahur (pre-dawn meal) and iftar, island-wide Ramadan porridge distribution directory as well as a terawih, qiyam and tadarus schedule. C. Youth Engagement and Community Outreach

Similar to previous years, a series of programmes designed for youth will be held including the signature Ramadan Youth Challenge and Islamic Education programmes for young adults. Another signature programme, Night of Power will be expanded to include youth and their families. The tradition of iftar at mosques with congregants, grassroots and community leaders will continue as well. Some of these programmes have been planned as pre- Ramadan activities.

 Ramadan Youth Challenge Camps at mosques o A 3D/2N Ramadan camp held from 25 to 27 May 2018 o 4 camps venues at each mosque cluster, targeting 600 youth aged 13-18 years old o Programme is design to build physical and spiritual resilience in Muslim youth during Ramadan and beyond. o Incorporating key messages of Community of Rahmah: Rahmah Begins with Me.

 Night of Power o The annual signature event will be held on Saturday, 9 June 2018 at Masjid Sultan o This year’s Night of Power will be a family event. Youth and their families can look forward to a slew of events for all ages starting from 2pm on 9 June 2018 until after Subuh prayer on 10 June 2018. See Annex C for more information.
