By 1974, 31 year-old Weldon Irvine was ready for the next phase of his career. Having spent years working variously as a pianist, band leader, , arranger and road manager with the likes of Joe Henderson and , his breakout moment as a solo artist finally came in 1974, when he signed with RCA Records. Finally backed with a budget that could match his ambitions, Irvine’s first release was Cosmic Vortex, a sprawling, monumental work that embodied a mu- sician at the height of his powers. The result is an album that molds his instincts for free-form improvisation to fit a deep aes- thetic, but also matched with strong, spiritual lyrics. He went on to release two more with RCA that continued to build on themes established here. Get On Down is proud to present the remastered version of Cosmic Vortex, featuring a dazzling new digital audio transfer from the original analog tapes.

As a group, Herman Kelly & Life had a rela- tively short life span. Releasing only a single album, Percussion Explosion!, in 1978, the Miami-based band didn’t have as much immediate success as some of their contem- poraries. But with a single, inescapable song, they managed to forever become a part of music history. Their funky, upbeat single “Dance to the Drummer’s Beat” became one of the most recognizable and frequently used breaks in hip-hop history, used in songs by legendary artists like Run-DMC, Public Enemy, N.W.A., 2 Live Crew, Whodini and DJ Shadow, and was featured in the famed Ulti- mate Breaks & Beats series. Get On Down is proud to present Percussion Explosion! in a newly refurbished edition, featuring “Dance to the Drummer’s Beat” plus other hit singles “Who’s the DJ” and “Do the Funky Ham- bone,” with a new digital transfer remastered from the original analog tapes.

During the 1960s, Scottish-born actor David McCallum was an instantly recognizable face across the world, thanks to his star turn as secret agent Illya Kuryakin on the spy series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. But with the release of his second album, Music…A Bit More of Me, in 1966, he became recognizable for another reason: his signature sound. Working closely with famed producer David Axelrod and arranger H.B. Barnum, McCallum, who comes from a family of , delivers lush, distinctly personal interpretations of clas- sic songs by, among others, artists such as The Beatles (“Michelle”), Petula Clark (“Call Me”) and Axel- rod himself, who contributes the original song “The Edge,” later made famous when sampled by Dr. Dre for his monster hit “The Next Episode” in 1999.

Get On Down is proud to present this timeless piece in a beautifully restored edition, with audio remastered from the original analog tapes, packaged in a paste-on mini-LP slip case based on the original album artwork, with dust sleeve and obi strip in a clear plastic poly bag. The album also features a reproduction of the full-color promotional photo contact sheet which was included with its original pressing.

The Dirty Truckers got together back in 1999 when song writer Tom Baker chose to pursue a decidedly American rock n' direction. Drawing on kick-ass influences such as Cheap Trick, Steve Earle, and The Replacements, the Dirty Truckers rock hard and have a good time doing it. They have just released their third installation of quality Americana for your listening pleasure.

The line-up includes guitarist John Brookhouse, bassist Jamie Griffith and drummer Johnny Rock Lynch -- the Truckers are fixtures on the Boston rock landscape and proud of it. The latest cd, Loose in the Joints was recorded in a ragged, leave-the-mistakes-in, kind of way— just like any good bar band would do it. Landing somewhere between the Lucero and the Faces, Loose is a cross-cutting mix of straight up rockers and soul searching ballads. This is the next chapter in the band’s cross-country rock odyssey, proving that The Dirty Truckers are still true originals.

Loose in the Joints was recorded with Mike Quinn at Moontower Studios and mixed and produced by local legend David Minehan at Woolly Mammoth Sound.

Key cuts include: Three Weeks to Go, Breaking My Stones and Boston Wrangler.

“Cut N’ Run,” The Gilded Splinters’ sophomore release, is the sound of a band who has found their voice. The voice that says, Baby, please don’t go. The voice that says, Bartender, ‘nother round please. The voice that says, One more goddamn song....“We wanted to get the sound of the room. The hiccups, the mistakes, all of it. We want people to feel like they’re listening to a band playing together,” says frontman Josh Buckley of the Boston quintet’s new album, “Cut N’ Run.” “Everything was recorded live, in a couple of takes. We wanted to keep the energy up – just like when you’re playing live,” Buckley continues. “It’s an integral part of who and what we are – a live rock band. Creating a record in the studio is a blast, but we are more of the get in and get out, get back on stage kind. Cut and run.”

The 10-track disc, the follow-up to their 2007 release, “January,” finds the band with a clear focus on their sound, a commix of city gritty and country ditty. The lead-off title track throws a sharp punch, part Stones vamp, part Wilco wizardry. Along the way, gorgeous Elton John-owed piano ballads like “Another Country’s Son” mix with the more whimsical “I Was Only Taking a Nap.” “When we started the band in ‘06, we were just trying to play together,” Buckley says.” I was living with our piano player, John Carbone. We liked the same music for the most part and playing together came naturally.” That fall, drummer Russ Patterson joined the band and the foundation of the Gilded Splinters was laid. In January 2007, the Splinters met producer/guitarist JP Bowersock (Ryan Adams, The Strokes) at a show in and went on to record their debut full-length with the esteemed guitar guru in Woodstock, NY.

“Making ‘Cut N’ Run’ was much different than recording ‘January,’” recalls Carbone. “We wanted it to be focused, but with a certain ease and not over considered. The right amount of sharp, with the right amount of blur.” Over the past two years, the Splinters have toured the east coast, honed their road ready sound and added seasoned Boston sidemen Chuck Vath on bass and Jonas Kahn on lead guitar.

There are very few individuals who command the respect of dub aficionados greater than “The Dubmaster” himself, King Tubby. On Tubby’s venerable 1974 release “Dub from the Roots”, he introduces us to the “Shalom Dub”, a method of mixing flying cymbals with horns in what he describes as “going in and out in a dub way”.

Borrowing from the forty fives of Johnny Clarke, Jackie Edwards, Cornell Campbell, John Holt, and Horace Andy, King Tubby takes the listener on a journey through a vast array of different emotions, rhythms and soundscapes. One of the standout cuts, “Iyahta” explores Tubby’s use of deep electric basslines to evoke a melodic calmness in the listener, while “Mine Field” and “Hijack The Barber” bring you back with the cavernous echoes of stabbing guitars, horns, and cymbals.

Though previously released by different labels on a variety of dusty pressings and formats, Clocktower’s reissue of Dub From The Roots is the definitive edition of this “Dubmaster” classic, featuring audio mastered from the original analog tapes and packaged in a paste-on mini-LP slip case in a clear plastic poly bag.

There are very few people who define a genre the way King Tubby defines dub. From the early days of dub in the 1960s, King Tubby (born Osbourne Rodduck) influenced a generation of producers across a variety of genres and continued to do so until his death in the late 1980s.

While King Tubby was known for experimenting with different sounds, he was also truly never one to settle for mediocrity. Flexing his signature dub muscle on 1975’s “Explosive Dub”, a compilation of various Tubby gems 19 tracks long, the true beauty of his ability is brought to light. It's obvious to the listener that King Tubby spent hours perfecting each track and remix before releasing it to the public. "Explosive Dub", a previously hard to find collectors item is a shining example of King Tubby's work.

Though many of these tracks have been previously released by different labels on a varity of dusty pressings and formats, Clocktower’s reissue of Explosive Dub features audio mastered from the original analog tapes and comes packaged in a paste-on mini-LP slip case in a clear plastic poly bag.

Danedra, Dre King, Slimkat78 and Bilal Salaam had been exchanging musical ideas well before they decided to re- cord PNMB. “We’ve performed live together in diff erent combina ons more mes than we can count.” says Salaam. “The collecƟ ve spirit was easy for us to replicate on wax. All we needed was the thread of an inspiraƟ onal theme to connect us a bit more.”

OP Swamp agreed on the refrains of the 1981 Brixton Riots, along with the studies of existen alist philosopher Frantz Fanon as ini al thema c layers. They stacked more ideas in the form of horns, keys,(Dre King) vocals(Danedra and Bilal Salaam) and electronic drums/samples(Slimkat78). The result of this culmina on is a completely fresh sound, at certain mes mantra-like and at others, absolutely ear-stretching.

“Another Day’s” double boom bap groove illuminates op mism in its simplest forms. “Decompose” waltzes through the circle of life, and “Fasho’s” lush horns and sparse vocals dismiss the idea of “demonic forces” as self-infl icted fool- ery. The musical journeys of Elsa Bianchi-Brunner: Awarded as a pianist on the first "Amateur Jazz Festival" Zurich in 1953, Elsie Brunner also impressed the audience there on accordion. Her brothers played trumpet, saxophone and other instruments in the musical family, but above all, collected all American jazz records they could find. As early as 1946 Elsie and her siblings were invited to an international accordion competition in Paris, where they won first prizes. In those early days there were also jam sessions in Zurich, from which Elsie should constitute her first own formation.

On bass and Clarinet was Siro Bianchi, whom she later married and with whom she moved to the in 1958 - first as music professionals, then as farm owners. Today Elsie and Siro Bianchi-Brunner live in Royston, Georgia. For the first time in 1958 the two traveled to the U.S. and had engagements in Palm Springs and Sun Valley from spring to autumn, along with an American drummer. They were also working together with other American jazz musicians now: Elsa and Siro played with Bob Cooper and his Allstar Ensemble at a session in Hermosa Beach and were good friends of , Pete Jolly and .

Some words by Elsa Bianchi (November 2010): "It`s almost 50 years since we did these tapings at the radio studios in Zurich and Basel, which means I really do not remember too much about it. One thing stands out: You played live - it was taped or recorded with no corrections and no extra take - so you were careful and tried not to play too many wrong notes. But as far as I remember, we always enjoyed these recordings and had a good time." www.myspace.com/sonoramarecords www.sonorama.de
