The Scholarship was established in 2001 and is funded by Marylyn Mayo who graduated BA/LLB from The University of Auckland’s School of Law in 1960 before moving to Queensland, Australia. From 1969 on, Marylyn taught in Northern Queensland, briefly at the University of Queensland’s Law School, then as founding head of the Department of Law at James Cook University in Townsville.Marylyn Mayo died in November 2002. Her husband John Mayo has continued to take an interest in the awarding of the Scholarship. Selection process

- Application is made to the Scholarships Office - A Selection Committee assesses the applications - The Scholarship is awarded by the University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of the Selection Committee Regulations

1. The Scholarship will be known as the Marylyn Eve Mayo Endowment Scholarship. 2. One Scholarship will be awarded each year, and will be of the value of $6,000. 3. The Scholarship will be awarded to a candidate who is enrolled full-time and has paid the fees, or arranged to pay the fees, for study in the Department of Law and who is studying Part Three Undergraduate Law. 4. Selection will be based on academic merit and demonstrable financial hardship. 5. The Scholarship will be awarded by the University of Auckland Council on the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising the Dean of the Faculty of Law (or nominee) and two other members of the senior staff of the Department of Law appointed by the Dean. 6. The Scholarship will be paid in two instalments: one in the first, and one in the second semester. 7. The University of Auckland Council has the power to terminate or suspend a Scholarship, if it receives an unsatisfactory report on the progress of a recipient from the Head of the Department of Law. 8. The University of Auckland Council is not obliged to make an award if in any year there is no candidate of sufficient merit. 9. The University of Auckland has the power to amend or vary these Regulations (in consultation with the Donor during
