'Building' Architects and Use of Open-Source Tools Towards Achievement of Millennium Development Goals
'Building' Architects and Use of Open-source Tools Towards Achievement of Millennium Development Goals. Oku, Onyeibo Chidozie Department of Architecture Faculty of Environmental Sciences Enugu State University of Science and Technology Email: [email protected] ABSTRACT Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were established by the United Nations to improve the well-being of humans and their habitat. Whether they are the target beneficiaries or amongst the parties administering services for achieving the MDGs, humans must carry out these activities in a physical environment. Hence, the Seventh Goal of the MDG has an indirect and far-reaching relationship with the others because it deals with the sustainable development of the built environment. Architects deliver consultancy services that span the design, documentation and construction supervision of the built environment. This study sought to determine the extent to which these professionals can do this, with respect to the Seventh Millennium Development Goal, using mainly open-source tools. The study draws from literature reviews, end-user feedback or reports, interviews with developers of applicable open-source products, and statistics from a survey, launched in 2011, for capturing how architects use ICT in their businesses. Analysis of popular open-source technologies for the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry show a concentration of resources in favour of the later stages of the Architect's role, rather than the design and contract-drawing stages. Some of the better-implemented tools are either too cryptic for professionals who communicate in graphical terms, or heavily biased towards software engineering practices. The products that promise Building Information Modelling (BIM) capabilities are still at an early developmental stage. -
A Survey of Open Source Products for Building a SIP Communication Platform
Hindawi Publishing Corporation Advances in Multimedia Volume 2011, Article ID 372591, 21 pages doi:10.1155/2011/372591 Research Article A Survey of Open Source Products for Building a SIP Communication Platform Pavel Segec and Tatiana Kovacikova Department of InfoCom Networks, University of Zilina, Univerzitna 8215/1, 010 26 Zilina, Slovakia Correspondence should be addressed to Tatiana Kovacikova, [email protected] Received 29 July 2011; Revised 31 October 2011; Accepted 15 November 2011 Academic Editor: T. This is an open access article distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a multimedia signalling protocol that has evolved into a widely adopted communication standard. The integration of SIP into existing IP networks has fostered IP networks becoming a convergence platform for both real- time and non-real-time multimedia communications. This converged platform integrates data, voice, video, presence, messaging, and conference services into a single network that offers new communication experiences for users. The open source community has contributed to SIP adoption through the development of open source software for both SIP clients and servers. In this paper, we provide a survey on open SIP systems that can be built using publically available software. We identify SIP features for service deve- lopment and programming, services and applications of a SIP-converged platform, and the most important technologies support- ing SIP functionalities. We propose an advanced converged IP communication platform that uses SIP for service delivery. -

This is my web resume. I’m looking for a job, but I’m only interested in Portland, OR based jobs or jobs where I could be re- mote from here. Who is he? • A polyglot who enjoys the com- monalities and contrasts of each programming language and plat- form. • A native of Portland, OR, USA. (And is not looking to relocate) • Loves tuning systems for perfor- mance and stability. • A nerd, cyclist, and metal head. Fig. 1: Open Source Bridge 2011. I am a Node.js and Rust hacker. Though I have years of Python devel- opment experience as well. I enjoy en- abling more stable performant software in any way I can. In my spare time, I teach programming, play with hardware, and hack on side projects. I subscribe to a statement I heard in one of the keynotes at PyCon 2012: “When programming stops being fun, I’ll stop doing it.” Contents 1 resume Documentation, Release 1.0.0 2 Contents CHAPTER 1 Table of Contents 1.1 About Me I’m a software developer from Portland, OR. I spend most of my programming time in Node.js and Rust. I spent a significant chunk of my past working in Python, so much so I have a large tattoo of one on my left shoulder! I enjoy exploring programming languages and chatting about them. -

How to Install and Configure Jabber Server (Ejabberd) on Debian Lenny GNU / Linux
Walking in Light with Christ - Faith, Computing, Diary Articles & tips and tricks on GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, Windows, mobile phone articles, religious related texts http://www.pc-freak.net/blog How to install and configure Jabber Server (Ejabberd) on Debian Lenny GNU / Linux Author : admin I've recently installed a jabber server on one Debian Lenny server and hence decided to describe my installations steps hoping this would help ppl who would like to run their own jabber server on Debian . After some research of the jabber server softwares available, I decided to install Ejabberd The reasons I choose Ejabberd is has rich documentation, good community around the project and the project in general looks like one of the best free software jabber servers available presently. Besides that ejabberd doesn't need Apache or MySQL and only depends on erlang programming language. Here is the exact steps I followed to have installed and configured a running XMPP jabber server. 1. Install Ejabberd with apt The installation of Ejabberd is standard, e.g.: debian:~# apt-get --yes install ejabberd Now as ejabberd is installed, some minor configuration is necessery before the server can be launched: 2. Edit /etc/ejabberd/ejabberd.cfg Inside I changed the default settings for: a) Uncomment%%override_acls.. Changed: %%%% Remove the Access Control Lists before new ones are added.%%%%override_acls. to %% %% Remove the Access Control Lists before new ones are added. %% override_acls. 1 / 6 Walking in Light with Christ - Faith, Computing, Diary Articles & tips and tricks on GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, Windows, mobile phone articles, religious related texts http://www.pc-freak.net/blog b) Admin User from: %% Admin user {acl, admin, {user, "", "example.com"}}.
