This article is published with open access at Springerlink.com Abstract Twelve species of Brachiopods are described short ranged and occurs in low-energy environments in the from the Silurian of Gotland, six furcitellinines and six latest Llandovery. The species belonging to the Stroph- ‘‘strophodontids.’’ One is new—Strophodonta hoburgensis odontidae (Strophodonta hoburgensis n. sp.) and Shalerii- n. sp. The furcitellinines are moderately common and dae [Shaleria (Janiomya) ornatella and S. (Shaleriella) diverse in the lower part of the succession, but the last ezerensis] occur only in high-energy environments and have species disappears in the middle Hemse beds (*middle a short range within the late Ludlow. Ludlow). Climate Control in Historic Buildings Poul Klenz Larsen Tor Broström Poul Klenz Larsen holds a PhD in buildings physics from the Technical University in Copenhagen. He is a senior consultant for historic buildings at the National Museum and specialises in climate control and energy efficiency in museums and historic buildings. He has been a teacher at the University in Gotland and at the Royal Academy of fine Arts in Copenhagen. Tor Broström is professor in Conservation at Uppsala University. He has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Princeton University, Licentiate of Technology from Chalmers Institute of Technology and a PhD from the Royal Institute of Technology. With a background in engineering, energy conversion and building physics, he has been working with indoor climate and energy efficiency in historic buildings for more than 20 years. Five facies are recognized in the Upper Burgsvik and Lower Hamra-Sundre Beds on account of a lithological and paleobiological analysis: I) siliciclastic, II) bio- clastic, III) oolitic/pisolitic, IV) oncolitic/biostromal, and V) crinoidal facies. The facies represent five depositional environments: a beach, a fore-shore, a surf, a shallow marine current, and an off-shore environment. The diversity and colony shape of tabulates in facies IV is related to discrete physical and biological fac- tors. The succession of facies reflects a transgressive sequence. Gotland Trip Report 2004
Gotland Sweden’s Baltic Isle A Greentours Trip Report 2nd – 10th June 2011 Led by Terry Underhill This report is from a Greentours trip that had a slightly longer itinerary than the Wildlife at Leisure tour we are offering in 2014, nevertheless most of the places feature on both itineraries and this should give a flavour of what you will do and see on the tour Day 1 Thursday June 2nd Arrival We all met up in the departure lounge at Heathrow. We had a nice snack at Arlanda prior to the 45 minute flight to Visby. It did not take long to sort out the formalities regarding the hire of a mini bus. We skirted the centre of Visby passing part of the old walled town, then a mosaic of fields, pastures and various different types of woodland along with wide flower-filled verges. It took a lot of discipline not to stop on the 42km drive to Ljugarn as we passed drifts of Orchis mascula, Orchis militaris and bright purple red patches of Geranium sanguineum, at times softened by clumps of Solomon’s-seal. Outstanding were the numerous Sorbus smothered in white flowers. A number of the fields of rape were just turning yellow, and many gardens had hedges of purple, pink and white lilac and magnificent specimens of golden laburnum. On arrival at Ljugarn Frej quickly allocated us our chalets, and Terry raced off to the local Coop to buy food for the picnics. By the time he returned, Anne, Kathleen and Pamela, were returning from a stroll down to the coast. -
