How Three Rivers District Council makes decisions

The Council meets five times a year and makes critical decisions such as setting the Budget and appointing a Council Leader.

The Policy and Resources Committee (in accordance with the Council Constitution) is chaired by the Leader of the Council with automatic membership on the Committee by the 7 Lead Members.

In addition, two Service Committees cover areas such as economic development, infrastructure, planning policy, leisure, environment and community and will make decisions within their Committee remit.

District Council elections will next be held on Thursday 7 May 2020.

Elections of County Councillors take place every four years, with the next scheduled County Council election in May 2021.

The Role of the Council

Three Rivers District Council was established in 1974 by combining the former Urban Districts of Rickmansworth and Chorleywood with part of the Rural District of Watford. The Council’s main offices in Rickmansworth opened in 1991.

The Council’s 39 elected Members represent thirteen electoral wards following a Boundary Commission review which came into effect on 22 May 2014, with each ward returning three Councillors.

The District Council's functions include:
