Here’s a little more about our instructors: Doug Leigh (trainer of Brian Orser, Elvis Stojko, Takeshi Honda, Ben Ferreira) is the founder/director of the Mariposa School of Skating located in Barrie, Ontario. He is clearly recognized as Canada’s premier figure skating coach and internationally recognized a leader in the field. As a skating authority he operates numerous coach/skater seminars around the world. He has coached at 25 World Championships and 6 Olympic Games. He has coached over 50 Canadian National Medalists and coached skaters to over 150 national and international medals. Michelle Leigh (trainer of Jennifer Robinson, Jeff Langdon, Elvis Stojko, Takeshi Honda (JPN), Steven Cousins (GBR), and several other European international competitiors) is a coach at the Mariposa School of Skating located in Barrie, Ontario. In addition to her impressive list of skaters, she is a highly sought after coach participating in numerous coach/skater seminars around the world. She has coached at 14 World Championships, 3 Olympic Games and 20 Canadian Nationals. She has also coached skaters at 55 international events including 4 European Championships. Michelle brings with her an extensive knowledge of the New Judging System including values, levels, components, and strategies. Orser first appeared in a skating carnival at the age of six and did his first solo performance two years later. Orser advanced through the ranks of Canadian junior skating, combining artistry with outstanding athletic ability. In 1979 he became the first junior and only the second person to land a triple axel in competition. He would later achieve distinction by becoming the first to perform a triple axel in combination. Orser won his first medal at the World Championships--a bronze--in 1983. In the Olympic Games of 1984 in Sarajevo he skated for silver. When the Olympics opened in Calgary in 1988, Orser was honored by being chosen to lead the Canadian delegation as flag-bearer.

    RAND PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS US WINTER TOUR 2014 Performer & Production Staff Bios Michael Chack – Male Soloist & Associate Choreographer US National Bronze Medalist US National & International Team Member Michael, from New York, NY, started skating at the age of 5. When he was only 11years old he moved away from home to begin training with World & Olympic Coach, Peter Burrows. His first trip to US National Championships was at the age of 15, and by 1991 was part of the National Team in the Senior Division (when he earned a 5th-place finish at US Championships). At the Skate America International Competition later that year he landed his first triple axel in competition, and in 1993 Michael was standing on the podium when he captured the country’s bronze medal! For the next two seasons Michael was a US World Team. Over Michael’s competitive career he won numerous qualifying and international competitions including: the World University Games, the US Olympic Festival, the Norway International (twice), the Tropee De France, and the Nebelhorn Trophy (Germany). As a professional Michael has been a lead principal performer for Holiday on Ice, Broadway on Ice (National Tour), Disney on Ice (World Tour), Snoopy’s Endless Summer, and Celebration on Ice and Spellbound on Ice (Hong Kong). Michael originated the male soloist role in The Holiday Ice Spectacular 2008 and is thrilled to be rejoining the show for the 5th tour in 2014! Notably, Michael is the associate choreographer and performance director of the show in 2014.     Glenn Fortin Glenn Fortin was born and raised in Belleville, Ontario and began skating as a member of the Quinte Figure Skating Club before moving to Ottawa in 1987 to train at the Gloucester Skating Club with Mr. Peter Dunfield. Glenn was the 1987 Novice Men Champion of Canada as well as the Gold Medalist at the 1987 Ontario Winter Games. From 1988 to 1991, Glenn competed at the Junior and Senior level in Singles before retiring from competition in 1991. Glenn has been an active official with Skate Canada for nearly 30 years and has served on the Board of Directors in Eastern Ontario, Central Ontario, and Skate Ontario at various periods over the past 25 years with experience in Official and Skater Development as well as Event Management. Glenn also volunteered in separate terms on National committees including Officials Development and National Teams. As an official, Glenn is qualified as an international level judge in Singles and Pairs as well as a Challenge level Referee. Glenn has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Ottawa and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder. He is a partner at Beutel Goodman, a Toronto based investment counsellor, where he is the co-portfolio manager for the Beutel Goodman American Equity Fund. Glenn currently resides in Aurora, Ontario with his wife Reaghan, also an international level judge, and two children, Connor and Avery. Janet Balkwill Originally from Toronto, Janet moved to Kanata after graduating from Queen’s University (BNSc). She is a former skater, parent of a former National Team member and skating volunteer for thirty-five years.

I do not think any discussion about the use of trails should be taking place prior to the completion of this report. Both the Legacy and Rotary Trail are experiencing unusually heavy users who were formerly unaware of these trails prior to Covid. We are all aware of the increase in population due to increasing housing. There is every reason to believe that useage will continue to rise. In addition, the above trails are the only place I feel safe, since I have mobility issues.
