Too hot here in Texas! However, I have been very busy lining up an array of projects for fall and winter. I also attended a PRODUCTS few shows with the the 2016 IPMS convention in Columbia being one of the high points. I get easily inspired by the work of others and there was an abundance of outstanding work at this year’s Nationals. You guys are all outstanding modelers and that by itself gives us here at Squadron the incentive to provide you even more with the best products and service anywhere. I always look forward to sharing with you the latest and greatest new releases from Squad- ron. As we roll into autumn, we are introducing a brand new Squadron Signal Publica- tion (SS14037), Landing Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC), authored by John Gourley. With 80 Pages containing 240 color photographs, line drawings, color profiles and history and development, you won’t want to miss it! It was a great show and I was fortunate to reconnect with customers and friends like I have done for the past 22 years. This year however, for the first time, I “observed” an increase in attendance of some very special conventioneers. It is these “friends of modelling” I wish to pay tribute to now. Over the years, I have seen them so many times. The poor women who are attached to a husband that has a severe case of affection to- wards plastic. She follows him peacefully at model shows but can’t hide the total disconcertment from her face. Not that she minds being there; but it’s a job and she has to do it. She’s a trooper about it and smiles if you make eye contact. She empathizes with her husband’s passion for the hobby and she lets him do his thing. She does not always understand why Howard needs another kit when he has 487 unbuilt models in the family garage - but she’s sure that it is a matter of importance to him because he told her so many times. She loves this man who in a way is an oversized child who never grew up and still gets excited every time Fine Scale Modeler hits the mail- box. He then reads it with big open eyes like a kid does when he or she follows his or her superhero jump from one page onto another, telling her passionately about the newest releases of the month and why he must have it. Usually a story will follow with an explanation that would justify the purchase, like when he was in the armed services and got close to that particular armor piece. Or a history lesson she heard a million times before and recognizes from the black and white military channel documentaries that he watches over and over. But he is her partner in life, so she takes one for the team each time and listens with unmeasured attention, trying so hard to prevent her eyes from glazing over. She knows she’s in total domination when it comes down to it and has hold of a long leash that she can manipulate whenever her model- ing man wonders off into uncontrollable styrene madness. Who are these lovable creatures, who day in and day out stand by us while we do what our instinct tells us to do? Building models or should I say “collect- ing” them. Who supports us in our hobby with a never ending patience and always allow the budget to be stretched another $20 to satisfy our cravings? Wives, girlfriends, family, or friends, they are an essential part of our enjoy- ment of this hobby. Without their support, how could this still be so fun? Myself, I’ve been blessed with a wife who does exactly all of the above. Who conceals her yawn when I talk about Messchersmitts and Focke Wulfs, who watches for the best deals and always finds something I’ve been looking for forever when I least expect it. Who learned the difference between an F-18 and an F-16, who taught herself what a rear instrument coaming, throttle quadrant, rudder pedal and Head Up Display is when I bring it up and who is extremely patient when I make a mess, spill paint on my new shirt or drag her to another convention. For these ladies I tip my hat. Thank you girls for letting us be boys, even if most of us look like Richard Depardieu on his worst day. Thank you for sticking with us so we can enjoy our wonderful hobby. I would like to close with one lady’s remark when asked if she supported her husband’s hobby. She said; “Well, he doesn’t smoke or drink, he’s house- broken and last but not least, I know where he is!” Jef Verswyvel 1:48 Scale Marking Options: US Army Air Force UC-78 s/n 42-58125, 1943 Sky King’s T-50 ‘Songbird’ 700 KITS LIMITED TO ONLY NEWNEW UC-78/JRC-1/T-50UC-78/JRC-1/T-50 ‘Bamboo‘Bamboo Bomber’Bomber’ US Navy JRC-1 BuNo 64464, 1943 Late 1930s, WWII era and beyond, Cessna-built commercial, twin-engined, low-wing monoplane and light transport (T-50) or military advanced trainer and utility aircraft (AT-17/UC-78 and JRC-1). Changes to UK Defence Statistics (UKDS) this year include a new section on Defence Inflation and an expanded International Defence section in Chapter 1, the restructuring of the Armed Forces Personnel section in Chapter 2, and a new section on Amputations in Chapter 3. UK Defence Statistics (UKDS) is a National Statistics publication, produced according to the standards of the Official Statistics Code of Practice. However some of the tables in UKDS do not have National Statistics status – some are produced by areas outside of the scope of the Government Statistical Service; some do not yet meet all the quality standards of the Official Statistics Code of Practice; and others have not gone through the required assessment process to be classed as National Statistics. All such tables are clearly marked with explanatory notes. This year UKDS is once again being issued as a web document only, due to financial constraints within the Ministry of Defence. Each table and chapter is available in pdf format which is suitable for printing. There is also a pdf version of the entire publication, and of the UKDS factsheet. We have ceased publication of the UKDS pocket cards this year, since they are of limited value in electronic format.

Lee remembers being off Iwo Jima when it was announced that Ernie Pyle, the WW II correspondent, had been killed on the island. His ship was the first to receive the news. Defence IQ ARMOURED VEHICLES MARKET REPORT 2017 sponsored by CONTENTS Executive Summary 4 Survey Analysis 5 Regional Developments 20 Europe North America Middle East Asia-Pacific Africa Latin America International Armoured Vehicle Review 66 Military Insight 68 Credits 76 About Defence IQ / Disclaimer 77 International Armoured Vehicles 23 - 26 January, 2017 2 Twickenham Stadium , London, UK Register today! “The defence market FOREWORD is becoming more sponsored by NIMR Automative sensitive to cost and value for money” In 2016 we have continued to see hotspots of unrest and conflict across the world, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa region, and there are few indications that these will abate in 2017. Conflict is unpredictable and asymmetric in nature and, in responding to these threats, armies across the globe are expecting their armoured vehicle fleets to provide the backbone of their ground based fighting capability. Versatile and flexible in use, armoured vehicles provide the protection and mobility for the deployment of troops, sensors and weapon systems. They deliver the military capability and “troops on the ground” where and when they are needed. At NIMR, we closely monitor market trends to ensure we are ready to meet the emerging demands of our customers. With this in mind, we welcome the annual Global Armoured Vehicles Market Report and are delighted to introduce the 2017 Report. Launched ahead of the series of armoured vehicle conferences, the report identifies the trends within the sector that will shape the market activity for the coming year. We expect to see continued growth in the demand for vehicles from the international market, both for new capability and to replace some ageing fleets.

The markings are those of the 64th AGRS though. On May 9, 2019, the United States Air Force (USAF) announced the reactivation the 65th Aggressor Squadron and moving 11 F-35A Lightning IIs to Nellis Air Force Base (Nellis AFB), Nevada, as part of "a larger initiative to improve training for 5th generation fighter aircraft." In addition, the USAF also revealed that Eglin Air Force Base (Eglin AFB) in Florida is the preferred alternative to receive a second F-35A Lighting II training squadron. Kindly do note, Eglin AFB will only receive the additional F-35 training unit if the F-22 Raptor formal training unit temporarily operating at Eglin AFB is permanently moved to Joint Base Langley-Eustis, 1/3 Virginia. The "decision to reactivate 65th Aggressor Squadron" came after Gen. James M. "Mike" Holmes, Air Combat Command (ACC) commander, recommended improving training for 5th generation fighter tactics development and close-air support by adding F-35s to complement the 4th generation aircraft currently. To support this requirement, the USAF decided to create a 5th generation aggressor squadron at Nellis AFB and move nine non-combat capable F-35A aircraft from Eglin AFB, Florida, to the squadron.
